Cistern barometer
Analogue
Barometer. ... An altimeter is intended to be used at different levels matching the corresponding
atmospheric pressure to the altitude, while a barometer is kept at the same level and measures
subtle pressure changes caused by weather and elements of weather.
An altimeter is an instrument used in aircraft to measure the height above sea level. Incorporated
into an altimeter is a pressure-sensing function that works similar to a barometer.
The altimeter measures altitude through comparison of air pressure as an aircraft climbs or
descends
Vane Anemometers
work on the principle that a freely turning turbine will rotate at a speed directly proportional to
the wind speed. Vane Anemometers cover ranges as low as 0.15 m/s and as high as 40 m/s, or
even higher by special order.
Purpose
vane anemometer. A portable instrument used to measure low wind speeds and airspeeds in large
ducts; consists of a number of vanes radiating from a common shaft and set to rotate when facing
the wind
Hot-anemometers are popular for unsteady flow of gas and liquid flow measurement. The
basic system consists of electrically heated wire suitably is liquid. ... And this changes the
current through the hot wire for a constant voltage. Flow can
be measured by measuring the change in the resistance or current.
The hot wire anemometer is used to measure fluid velocities by measuring heat loss by
convection from a very fine wire which is exposed to the fluid stream. The wire is
electrically heated by passing an electrical current through it
sling psychrometer
The sling psychrometer is used to measure relative humidity. This is one of the simpler designs
of psychrometers available on the market. It consists of two thermometers, a wet bulb, and a dry
bulb. These are attached on to a frame which has a string or light chain in the middle.purpose
A psychrometer measures the relative humidity in the atmosphere through the use of two
thermometers: a dry bulb thermometer, is used to measure the temperature by being exposed to
the air. a wet bulb thermometer, measures temperature by having the bulb dipped in a liquid.
Sir John Leslie (1776-1832), a reputed meteorologist of his time, is credited with the invention of
the sling psychrometer. The term 'psychrometer', however, was first used in the year 1818 by
German inventor Ernst Ferdinand August.
Thermo hygrometers
are useful for measurements of humidity. Humidity is a representation of the concentration of
water vapour in the air where the value is shown as a percent. Thermo hygrometers have sensors
which measure humidity of the air and temperature of the air.
What is the purpose of a hygrometer?
Hygrometer,
instrument used in meteorological science to measure the humidity, or amount of water vapour in
the air. ... The psychrometer (q.v.) is a hygrometer that utilizes two thermometers—one wet-bulb
and one dry-bulb—to determine humidity through evaporation.
Mine ventilation
is a significantly important aspect of underground mining. Improved ventilation clears methane
and other toxic gases found in coal and metal mines, removes fumes from blasting, and exhausts
diesel fumes produced by equipment.
Underground mine ventilation provides a flow of air to the underground workings of a mine of
sufficient volume to dilute and remove dust and noxious gases and to regulate temperature. The
source of these gases are equipment that runs on diesel engines, blasting with explosives, and the
orebody itself.
Digital manometer
They can also be used for single pressure. ... Digital Manometer can be used to measure low
pressure. Constructed of extruded aluminum case. Series HM35 Up to 0.05% Accuracy, Graphical
Display, Data Logging Capability. Precision Digital Pressure Manometer is designed to measure
and log pressure measurements.
There are some disadvantages of inclined monometer which are given below.
The inclined monometer has no over range protection.
It has lack of portability.
A major disadvantage of the manometer is it has slow response, which makes it unsuitable for
measuring fluctuating pressures.
Jul 22, 2017
The manometer's inclined angle provides many advantages. A small or low amount of pressure
against the inclined manometer will produce a large liquid movement relative to the tube's
graduations. As a result, the graduation scale can be very precise--down to a hundredth of an inch
accuracy.
Advantages of Psychrometers:
1. Low cost
2. Excellent portability
3. Reliable
4. Easy to use
Disadvantages of Psychrometers:
1. May be fragile, though rugged units are now available for use in harsh environments
2. Repeatability can be dependent on user and user interpretation of temperature
measurements
3. Mercury hazard, as some older products may contain mercury in the thermometer
components of the instrument
4. Potentially poor resolution, though digital psychrometers offer better resolution than
analog units
