● The CaLaBaRZon Region is located in the southwestern part of the island of Luzon and
has a total land area of 16,873.31 sq km. And consists of coastal areas and highlands.
● Calabarzon is formally known as Southern Tagalog Mainland and designated as Region
IV-A, is an administrative region in the Philippines.
● Calabarzon is the second most densely populated region in the country, principally
because it is the closest region to metro Manila.
● It is composed of five provinces, to be specific: CAvite, LAguna, BAtangas, Rizal, and
QueZON
GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES
CORREGIDOR ISLAND
- Rocky island, strategically located at the entrance of Manila Bay, just south of Bataan
province, Luzon, Philippines. It is a national shrine commemorating the battle fought
there by U.S. and Filipino forces against Japanese during World War II.
LAGUNA DE BAY
- is the largest lake in the Philippines located east of Metro Manila between the provinces
of Laguna to the south and Rizal to the north. The freshwater lake has a surface area of
911–949 km² (352–366 sq mi), with an average depth of about 2.8 metres (9 ft 2 in) and
an elevation of about 1 metre (3 ft 3 in) above sea level.
MOUNT MAKILING
- A dormant volcano located on the border of laguna province and Batangas on the island
of Luzon, Philippines. The mountain rises to an elevation of 1,090 m (3,580 ft) above
mean sea level and is the highest feature of the Laguna Volcanic Field. The volcano has
no recorded historic eruption but volcanism is still evident through geothermal features
like mud spring and hot springs.
TAAL VOLCANO
- Taal Volcano (Filipino: Bulkang Taal) is a complex volcano located on the island of
Luzon in the Philippines.[1] It is the second most active volcano in the Philippines with
33 historical eruptions. All of these eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an
island near the middle of Taal Lake. The lake partially fills Taal Caldera, which was
formed by prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 and 5,380 BP.
SIERRA MADRE
- is the longest mountain range in the Philippines. Running in the north-south direction
from the provinces of Cagayan to the north and Quezon to the south, the mountains form
the eastern backbone of Luzon Island, the largest island of the archipelago. It is bordered
by the Pacific Ocean to the east.
Food Preparation
· They prefer their food naturally and healthy.
· They all like eating on banana leaves.
· They like using coconuts to their dishes.
Marriage
· They put a veil on the bride that connects to the groom.
· The groom gives unity coins or “Arrahe” to the bride.
· They have a engagement-like practice called “Pamamanhikan”.
· In Rizal, they have a dance called “PANGANGA”.
Burial
· They place their dead relatives on a hollow tree.
· Infants (Family member or not) that attended in the funeral are passed over before
his or her burial.
LOCAL FOODS
BIBINGKOY
- Bibingkoy Made of glutinous rice stuffed with boiled mongo but instead of fried like
buchi it is baked in an old style oven then topped with coconut cream sauce with sago
langka and kaong although the last two had been omitted over the years to cut cost.
GINATAANG LANGKA
- Aside from the unripe jackfruit and coconut milk, you could add pork, chilis, shrimp
paste, shrimps or even daing or tuyo.
ATOLE
- Also known as Maja Blanca is a Filipino dessert composed of coconut milk, evaporated
milk, cornstarch or corn flour, refined sugar and added with grated sweet corn. It is often
called Coconut Pudding in some places.You can also add some toppings like latik or fried
coconut curd, and shredded coconut to make it more appetizing
ESPASOL
- This is a rice cake cooked in coconut milk filled with coconut powder which gives an
appealing snowy feature. It has a soft and chewy texture with a sweet taste that leaves
you craving for more.
LOMI
- this savory noodle dish has different versions on various places of the province. So better
not miss Anilao’s recipe when you visit this part of Batangas.
BULALO
- regarded as the signature dish of the province, bulalong Batangas (or bone marrow soup)
has beef shank boiled in water with garlic, black pepper, onions, and salt. It also has some
vegetables, like cabbage and potatoes.
GINATAANG KUHOL
- A popular tourist destination featuring floating nipa huts above a pond, this resort-hotel
puts forward its ginataang kuhol, snails cooked in ferns and coconut milk; and pilipit, a
fried pastry made with squash rather than flour, coated with melted brown sugar, and
served on a banana leaf.
PANCIT BUKO
- This unique dish features shredded young coconut as the “noodles,” garnished with a
medley of vegetables, chicken, and shrimps. The resort also serves their house-made
buko pie with halayang ube.
KULAWONG PUSO NG SAGING
- The in-house specialty Kulawong Puso ng Saging is a Laguna heirloom made of banana
hearts cooked in coconut milk. The grated coconut is grilled before extracting the milk,
giving it a smoky flavor.
FESTIVALS
Parada ng lechon
- This annual festivity is done in commemoration of the baptism of Jesus Christ done by
St. John the Baptist. To show the thanksgiving and veneration of their patron saint,
resident and neighboring municipalities ready their lechon or the roasted pig for parade.
Walistik Festival
- Walistik is a Tagalog slang for being incredibly cool. The festival was put up to challenge
the creativity and innovativeness of the Lipeños to unite and work together.
Kalayaan Festival
- It is a 2 week-long province wide event held annually from May 28 to June 12. As its
name suggests, the series of events for the festival are held to celebrate the Independence
Day season. The festival was launched in 2005 with a variety of activities such as street
dancing, float parade, beauty pageant and trade fair.
Hamaka Festival
- Taytay Rizal is known for its quality ready-made dresses and woodworks. And so they
create HAMAKA festival in support. It’s Taytay Rizal’s week long celebration of
thanksgiving.
Maytinis Festival
- An original Kawit tradition that takes place every Christmas Eve, a dramatic retelling of
the Virgin Mary and Joseph’s search in Bethlehem for a place to stay called
“Panunuluyan”.
Higantes Festival
- Higantes Festival is celebrated every 22 and 23 November in the city of Angono,
Province of Rizal in the Philippines to honor San Clemente, the patron saint of fishermen.
The festival features a parade of hundreds of higantes, papier-mâché giants. Higantes are
puppets rendered as man or woman in various costumes; their face gives a commanding
look, their hands on the waist.
Regada Festival
- Also called the “Water Festival”, the festival is comprised of games, street dancing, photo
exhibit, trade fair, concert and water splashing. The festival is done three days from June
22-24 done in celebration of St. John the Baptist.
Tahong Festival
- Different cuisines with tahong as main ingredient are on exhibit at the Bacoor town plaza
every September 29. Culinary contests are held annually. Various activities are done such
as beauty contest.
Pahiyas Festival
- is being celebrated annually in the Municipality of Lucban or Lukban in Quezon
Province, Philippines. The Pahiyas Festival is held in honor of San Isidro Labrador the
Farmer every 15 of May. The Festival got its name from the Filipino Term “Hiyas”
which means “jewel”. Pahiyas then connotes a precious offering.
TOURIST DESTINATION
Mount San Cristobal- It is a dormant volcano in Quezon province on the island of Luzon,
Philippines. The mountain rises to an elevation of 1,470 m above mean sea level and is one of
the volcanic features of Macolod Corridor.Mount San Cristobal is considered the Devil's
mountain in Filipino folklore.
Malagonlong Bridge- Is a five-span 445 ft long stone arch bridge built during the Spanish
colonial period in Tayabas, Quezon, Philippines. The bridge is known as one of the oldest
bridges as well as the longest bridge made during the Spanish era. one of the most important
Historical places in Tayabas City, Quezon for it reminds them the history and uniqueness of the
City.
Enchanted Kingdom- is the largest and most popular theme park destination in the Philippines
where families and friends head to for a myriad of fun, adrenaline-pumping ride adventures and a
whole lot more. Laguna- is the country's first and only world-class theme park.
Lakes Pandin and Yambo- Pandin and Yambo are twin crater lakes separated by a narrow strip
of land. They are part of the Seven Lakes system in San Pablo, and are situated at Brgy. San
Lorenzo in San Pablo City of Laguna province in the Philippines. Lake Pandin is said to be "the
most pristine" of the seven lakes of San Pablo.
Mount Pico de Loro.- Mount Palay-Palay,also known as Mount Pico de Loro, is a dormant
volcano in Cavite province on the island of Luzon, Philippines. The mountain rises to an
elevation of 688 m (2,257 ft) above mean sea level and is the highest peak of the Mounts
Palay-Palay–Mataas-na-Gulod Protected Landscape.
