Edgy, sharp and with a message
20 January 2025
The premise is bold and unapologetic, and from the very start, you know you're in for something different. It's clever, stylish, and packed with so much tension that I was glued to the screen the whole time.

Carey Mulligan absolutely owns her role as Cassie. She's fierce, vulnerable, and so layered. You can feel her pain and anger in every scene, and honestly, she's the driving force behind why this movie hits so hard. The story is both darkly entertaining and thought-provoking, balancing moments of humor with a raw, unsettling undercurrent.

What I loved most is how the movie tackles heavy issues-like consent, accountability, and toxic culture-without being preachy. It's sharp and pointed, with a kind of satirical edge that makes its message even more powerful. Oh, and that soundtrack? Absolute perfection. It sets the tone beautifully.

That ending, though. I won't spoil it, but wow-it's divisive, and I get why. It's not the clean resolution you might hope for, but it packs a punch and makes you think. Unforgettable movie that challenges you, and I love that about it.

Get Out (I) (2017)

Gripping
20 January 2025
Jordan Peele absolutely nailed this one. The way it blends horror, suspense, and social commentary is just genius. From the very first scene, you can feel this unsettling tension creeping in, and it doesn't let up until the end. It's not just scary-it's smart, which is what I loved most about it.

The storyline is so well-crafted, and the pacing is spot on. It pulls you in slowly, letting you think you know where it's going, and then completely flips the script. I can't even count how many moments left me on the edge of my seat or genuinely surprised me. And that Sunken Place scene? Chilling. Peele did such a good job at making it feel claustrophobic and terrifying, while also being a perfect metaphor.

Daniel Kaluuya's performance deserves a standing ovation-he's incredible as Chris. You feel everything he's going through: the unease, the anger, the fear. And let's not forget Lil Rel Howery as Rod-he brought some much-needed comic relief without it feeling forced.

What sets Get Out apart, though, is how it tackles race and privilege in such a sharp and thought-provoking way. It's an absolute must-watch.

The Guilty (2018)

Okay movie, had more potential
18 January 2025
While it had an interesting premise, I can't say it fully delivered for me. The concept of a tense, real-time thriller set entirely in a 911 call center was unique, and the confined setting did a great job of building suspense. The lead actor really carried the film too-his performance was solid and kept me invested.

But where it lost me was the twists. Don't get me wrong, I love a good twist, but these just felt way too far-fetched to fit the story. Instead of adding to the tension, they pulled me out of the experience because they didn't feel believable. It's like the movie tried too hard to shock you instead of grounding the story in realism.

Overall, it's not a bad watch, but it didn't leave much of an impact on me. If you're into contained thrillers with some big swings, you might enjoy it, but for me, the twists didn't land, and that stopped it from being great. It had potential-it just didn't fully hit the mark.

Missing (I) (2023)

I was hooked!!
18 January 2025
Wow, Missing completely caught me off guard. I went into it expecting a typical thriller, but this movie is anything but typical. Ava Zaria delivers a solid performance, but the real star here is the plot-it's a wild, twisty rollercoaster that never lets up.

Every time I thought I had it figured out, BAM-another twist came out of nowhere and threw me off. It's been a while since a movie kept me guessing like this one. Just when you think it's heading in one direction, it pulls the rug out from under you, and by the end, I was left saying, "What just happened?" in the best way possible.

The pacing was great, too-it's tense from start to finish, and the way it incorporates modern technology into the storytelling felt clever without being forced. If I had to nitpick, some parts felt a little far-fetched, but honestly, I was so hooked I didn't even care.

It's the kind of movie you can't stop thinking about after the credits roll. If you love unpredictable, edge-of-your-seat thrillers, definitely put this one on your list!

Dark and shocking
18 January 2025
I finally got around to watching You Were Never Really Here, and I'm still processing it. Honestly, this isn't your typical action-thriller-it's more of an intense, atmospheric dive into the mind of a broken man. Joaquin Phoenix was incredible (no surprise there). He's raw, silent, and carries this heaviness that pulls you into his world. The movie does a great job at showing his trauma without beating you over the head with backstory, which I appreciated.

The pacing can feel slow at times, and the fragmented style might not work for everyone. It's definitely not an easy watch, and it leaves a lot open to interpretation. But I kind of liked that-it doesn't spoon-feed you. Now, the ending? Absolutely shocking. It's the kind of thing that just stops you in your tracks and leaves you staring at the screen. I didn't see it coming, and that final moment alone bumped the movie up a notch for me.

It's not perfect, but it's haunting and stays with you. If you're in the mood for something dark and unconventional, I'd say give it a shot. Just be ready for a lot of silence and a lot of depth.

My Policeman (2022)

Good enough
2 December 2024
It was a mixed bag for me. The movie had so much promise, especially with the period drama setting and the emotional weight of its themes. The performances were decent-Harry Styles held his ground, and the supporting cast brought some depth to their roles. The cinematography was stunning too, really capturing the beauty of the era.

But despite all that, the story just didn't deliver. The buildup throughout the movie seemed to lead to something profound, but the ending was so underwhelming. It felt like it fizzled out instead of leaving a lasting impression. For a film with such a powerful premise, I was expecting a much more emotional or thought-provoking conclusion.

It's not a bad watch if you're into slow-burn dramas, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it. The potential was there, but it fell short in execution. I'd give it for the story and acting, but the overall impact was just disappointing. Definitely not as gripping or satisfying as I had hoped.

Wasted potential
2 December 2024
Honestly, it left me feeling really disappointed. The premise had so much potential-blending true crime with a chilling story about a serial killer-but the execution was just a mess. The storytelling was so disjointed that it felt like I was watching a series of disconnected scenes rather than a cohesive narrative. It was incredibly hard to stay engaged because the pacing was all over the place, and the tension that should've been gripping just wasn't there.

The acting, however, was fantastic. The performances from the cast were strong, especially considering how weak the script was. You could tell the actors were giving it their all, but it wasn't enough to save the movie from its poor direction and lack of focus.

It's such a shame because the concept was intriguing, and this could've been a truly compelling film. Instead, it ended up feeling like a wasted opportunity. I'd give it a 3/10 for the acting and potential, but beyond that, it just didn't deliver on what it promised. It's a tough one to recommend unless you're really curious about the story.

Super enjoyable!
2 December 2024
I really enjoyed it. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat with its intense time-loop concept, where the characters desperately try to fix their mistakes and save the people they love. What stood out to me the most was the emotional depth-there's so much heart in the story, and it makes you feel invested in the characters' struggles.

The performances were solid, especially from the two leads, who conveyed so much emotion and urgency. The pacing was tight, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. Some moments did feel a bit predictable but honestly, it's still a strong movie that's worth watching.

If you're into time-travel or time-loop films with a mix of action and heartfelt drama, this one should be on your list. It's a great blend of suspense and emotional storytelling!

The DUFF (2015)
8/10
Just love it! Witty and amazing message.
25 November 2024
The DUFF is one of those unexpectedly witty and fun teen movies that hits all the right notes. It's like a modern-day Mean Girls with its own unique charm, and even though the concept of a "Designated Ugly Fat Friend" is ridiculous (and let's be honest, kind of harsh), the movie totally owns it. It's self-aware, funny, and delivers its message without taking itself too seriously.

Mae Whitman as Bianca is the heart of the movie-she's hilarious, relatable, and her comedic timing is spot on. Watching her navigate high school, friendships, and her budding romance with the ever-charming Wesley (played perfectly by Robbie Amell) is pure entertainment. Their chemistry is electric, and the banter between them adds so much wit and warmth to the story.

What I love most about The DUFF is how it manages to balance the humor with a genuinely empowering message about self-acceptance. Sure, it leans into teen movie clichés, but it does so with a wink and a nod, making it feel fresh and fun rather than tired.

Endlessly rewatchable, laugh-out-loud funny, and leaves you feeling good by the end. Definitely a modern classic!

Forget the cringe and enjoy the ride
25 November 2024
Save the Last Dance is one of those movies that's so nostalgic, you can't help but forgive how cringe it can be at times. I mean, yes, the dialogue is cheesy, and the dance moves might feel a little dated now, but that's part of its charm. It's a classic from the early 2000s, and honestly, it's a movie I find myself wanting to rewatch every now and then-just for the vibes.

The story of Sara, a ballet dancer who moves to Chicago after a tragedy, and Derek, a guy from a very different world who helps her rediscover her passion for dance, still feels heartfelt. The chemistry between Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas is solid, even if some of the scenes make you roll your eyes a little. And that final audition? So iconic, even if it's a mix of awkward ballet and hip-hop that would never fly in real life.

But that's the beauty of Save the Last Dance. It doesn't have to be perfect-it's raw, full of teenage angst, and drenched in early 2000s vibes. A solid 7/10 for me, and definitely a must-watch when you're in the mood for a nostalgic trip back in time.

Lovely Runner (2024– )
7/10
Its good but definitely overrated
25 November 2024
The drama pulls you in with its emotional depth and heartfelt moments, but it doesn't fully deliver on its ambitious premise. Im Sol's journey to save her favorite star, Ryu Seon-jae, by traveling back to their high school days is compelling, but the execution feels a bit uneven.

The performances are what kept me invested. Kim Hye-yoon shines as Im Sol, perfectly balancing her determination and vulnerability. Her chemistry with Byun Woo-seok (as Seon-jae) is heartfelt, making their interactions emotionally gripping. The drama does a great job exploring themes like second chances and the weight of mental health struggles, but at times, it felt like it was holding back from diving deeper.

Where the show falters is its pacing. Some episodes are packed with tension and emotion, while others feel weighed down by unnecessary filler. Secondary characters are underdeveloped, which makes parts of the story feel one-dimensional.

That said, Lovely Runner still manages to tug at your heartstrings and delivers a bittersweet, uplifting message about love, hope, and change. It's worth watching if you enjoy fantasy dramas with an emotional edge, but it leaves you wishing it had gone the extra mile.

Wasted potential
25 November 2024
Don't get me wrong, the premise is super intriguing-a woman betrayed by her husband and best friend gets a second chance at life through time travel. I was really excited to see how it would all play out, especially the revenge part. But honestly? It didn't fully live up to its potential.

First, the pacing felt off. Some parts were really engaging, especially when she starts to outsmart the people who wronged her. But then it would drag, with unnecessary scenes that didn't add much to the story. The characters were a mixed bag. The leads had their moments, but sometimes their emotions didn't feel genuine enough for such a dramatic plot. And the villains? So over-the-top it was hard to take them seriously.

I will say, the drama did have some great moments of tension and satisfaction when justice was served, but those were few and far between. The rest just felt like filler. I kept waiting for it to hook me, but it never fully did. It's watchable, especially if you like revenge plots, but it's not something I'd rave about.

Decent idea, mediocre execution.

EXmas (2023)

Average at best
25 November 2024
It was... okay. It's one of those feel-good holiday movies you put on when you're in the mood for something light and festive, but it didn't exactly blow me away. The plot is pretty predictable: two exes are forced to reunite over the holidays due to some awkward family drama, and, surprise surprise, sparks start to fly again.

The leads were decent-I mean, they had chemistry, but nothing that made me go, "Wow, they're perfect!" Some of the jokes landed, and there were a few genuinely cute moments, but a lot of it felt like it was trying too hard to hit every holiday rom-com cliché. You've got the meddling family, the cheesy misunderstandings, and of course, the "big romantic moment" in the end.

Visually, it's cozy and Christmassy, so it's great if you want something festive in the background while you're wrapping presents or drinking hot chocolate. But if you're looking for a holiday movie that really stands out, this might not be it. Overall, it's a fine way to kill 90 minutes, but don't expect it to become your new Christmas favorite.

The first episode was a dream, the rest is more like a nightmare... Wasted potential
6 January 2024
This had such amazing start, episode one was one of the best episodes I have ever watched, the storytelling was so captivating and what an emotional story, I actually cried. So believe me when I say I was really looking forward to the rest of the series, but what a let down.

The rest of episodes were just a bunch of empty filling scenes with overdramatic characters and underwhelming subplots.

Majority if the cast in this are very experienced and tge acting is superb, but the script is just too silly and nonsensical.

I give it a 6 mainly because the actual main plot and storyline of their past life was extremely good and interesting but they could have done it in just 4/6 episodes. The modern storyline was just dragging and lacking an actual plot.

I guess you will love this if you are into telenovelas and enjoy very extreme and dramatic plots.

Reacher (2022– )

How are you gonna take down whoever's doing this? Painfully
4 January 2024
This series is just awesome.

Thrilling, fun and super entertaining.

Bare in mind I haven't watched any other versions of Jack Reacher and I haven't read the books yet so I have nothing to compare it with.

Alan Ritchson As Reacher is just cool to watch. I have watched him in a few things but somehow watching this I kept thinking about his role in Blue Montain State! Some of the faces he makes keep me from taking him seriously, mostly when he jokes around or does anything goofy. But this character fits him so well, and the action scenes are just awesome to watch, he does look like a beast. Absolutely love his acting.

The rest of the cast is amazing and I love the bickering and teasing between them all, great chemistry.

Both seasons have a really interesting plot and the script is pretty good too. I can't wait to keep watching more of this series, I am enjoying thoroughly.

Wholesome love and friendship stories plus powerful and fierce female leads plus the least toxic male characters ever, equals a recipe for success. Love love love.
30 December 2023
What an epic drama, so enjoyable and emotional. I never cry with any series and this one got me a couple of times.

The show is incredibly well made and the script its very compelling, with a lot of action, incredible fight scenes, funny moments, loads of teasing and beautiful camaraderie and friendship between all characters. It will hook you from the moment you start watching.

In the second half there's a few slow and draggy episodes but it will speed up in the last few episodes again. They gave us a pretty decent ending in the episode 34 but they added new subplots and twists (very tragic and heartbreaking) after that and everything felt rushed, including the ending.

This is why Im not giving the highest rating.

My favorite part about this drama is how well written and layered all characters are. There's something special about each one of them and you will feel a special connection.

I am absolutely obsessed with all female characters in this. There's ZERO female characters written as doormats in this series. They are fierce and stoppable and they will all play a key role in the story. The development of all of them, and how they grow through the experiences they are living and the people they meet ( specially Princess Yang Ying) is so thrilling to watch.

And the way they all lift each other up, including the male characters, criticizing stereotypical gender roles and regarding women as equal and important as them. Just wow.

This was my first drama of the both main leads and I am a fan. Liu Shi Shi and Liu Yu Ning had such beautiful chemistry.

Greenest flag award for the main male lead's character. Not one toxic thing about him, and made the main love story very enjoyable to see. I found myself showcasing the biggest smiles when they were flirting each other on screen.

Despite its flaws it was an almost perfect drama, with very wholesome relationships of epic love and friendship and incredible character development.

You will laugh, cry, be surprised and feel the deepest sweetest love so many times. Don't miss this one!

The Matchmakers (2023– )
8/10
Love is everything and the beginning of everything. The heart to love your parents and to love your children. It all starts with a couple's love.
27 December 2023
This historical drama brought a fresh and original script to the table, a rarity in the genre. The narrative bravely delves into the hidden aspects of society during that period, shedding light on topics often overlooked. The exploration of ageism, the challenges faced by widows, and the subtle portrayal of homosexuality added a layer of realism that made the drama stand out.

One of the most compelling aspects was its unapologetic confrontation of societal norms, particularly the discrimination against women. Despite enduring prejudices, the portrayal of women as powerful figures managing households showcased their resilience and strength. The drama succeeds in making viewers reflect on historical injustices and appreciate the often-overlooked roles women played in shaping families.

The comedic elements were not only entertaining but also remarkably on point. Rowoon's portrayal of the male lead was nothing short of exceptional, perfectly capturing the essence of the genre. While the main leads lacked chemistry, the secondary couples more than made up for it. Their captivating stories added depth to the overarching plot, making the drama a wholesome and emotionally resonant experience.

While a few plot holes and questionable twists, especially in the last episode, may have raised eyebrows, the overall journey was a positive one. This one managed to deliver a feel-good drama with a satisfying ending that leaves the audience content. It's a testament to the show's ability to balance social commentary, humor, and heartwarming relationships, making it a must-watch for anyone seeking a unique historical drama experience.

Cdramas getting rid of their typical, shy, naive and useless baby-voiced female leads?? Sign me up! This was so fire and hot to watch.
24 December 2023
What an absolute surprise.

The ratings are quite low and I was wondering if it was because it was another light fluffy cdrama with the same trope of cliches we are used to. Oh boy, was I wrong.

China produces cdramas at a high speed and because there are so many, not all of them are worth watching.

But lately they are making loads of changes and you can tell in the quality, specially in the characters. They are slowly getting rid of those stereotypical annoying useless/baby voiced female characters, they are writing quality scripts and creating witty, smart, strong female characters and I am all for it.

This is drama has a very simple story with a plot we have seen before and yes it is sweet and fluffy.

So what's the difference? The difference is in the characters, specially the female lead. This drama has one of the best character development story I have watched, and the personalities written for them are absolutely realistic.

Our female lead behaves like a real woman, her personality is strong and determined, she takes the initiative to express her feelings and her desires, acting on them too. It was very refreshing to watch ( and very sexy)

The chemistry between the leads is extremely high in this one. I can't stress enough how wild every gaze and every conversation and every touch between them was. I don't remember ever a cdrama where the female lead had so much freedom within her own skin and relationship. It was very attractive to watch.

The secondary stories were very engaging too, great non cliche subplots and again very well written realistic characters.

Overall was amazing and I 100% recommend it. If I don't give it a 10 is because I believe this should have been shorter, it got a bit dragging for a few episodes after the episode 18 but then recovered at the end.

An attraction that defies calculation. A force that sweeps you off your feet. It draws to an endless pull until two finally meet as one. That's the power of fate.
23 December 2023
I was really looking forward to this drama and I was not disappointed.

CGI & Effects, sceneries, sets costumes, etc..in this drama were made with quality.

I usually don't enjoy watching these period dramas about war because it is very depressing and heartbreaking to see the capacity of the brutality and cruelty of men (the japanese really caused havoc and irreparable damage to Korea).

But in this case and although there's a few very real and powerful scenes where emotions take over, thanks to the supernatural elements of the beasts and the very unique and quirky personality of Park Seo Joon's character and his romantic storyline, the darkness is somehow compensated and it works wonders.

It has been a very long time since we watched Park Seo Joon in a drama, and I missed him. I truly enjoy his acting. He has the capability of taking this character ( Jang Tae Sang) and transform, he showed us an infatuated man with all his awkwardness and clumsiness but also a man tired and in agony for what life has put him through, and you can feel all his pain, anger, frustration and then determination to keep fighting to keep surviving hell.

Han Soo Hee was fantastic too, I am used to her kicking ass with her roles and this wasn't less. She had great chemistry with Park Seo Joon and the dramatic scenes were very painful to watch. Truly amazing actress.

Rest of the cast was remarkable and I cant wait to see the second part of this. Specially Wi Ha Joon, which had a small role so far but I am anticipating he will play a much bigger part in the upcoming episodes.

Overall, amazing drama, very entertaining and well made. Go watch it!

It was love at first listen, his voice really enamored me.
22 December 2023
This is a beautifully made drama but with no essence or substance.

I love the slow pace and how intimate they present every scene to you. There's something magical about how they show parts of Chinese culture, music, folklore and of course food. There's a big food theme in every episode and it is truly fascinating how wonderfully every recipe and sensation is described.

The acting is great and honestly the chemistry between the leads is fantastic too. I adore Zhou Ye, and couldn't recognize her when she has transformed into a shy, naive and inexperienced young woman for this role. You can see her in other dramas like Back from the Brink of Scent of time and she can really act!

Tan Jian Ci's role would not let him shine as his character was very stiff, flat and expressionless, and the only times you could really enjoy him was when he was having romantic moments with the female lead, then his eyes would say everything. Again, great chemistry.

My issue with this drama is that there's no plot whatsoever. Nothing ever happens. It's just a simple and extremely lighthearted storyline where there are just scenes of fluffy unrealistic romance. It gets to a point where is very cringe to watch adult actor behaving like teenagers. I get that this sells in Asia and they romanticize the idea of inexperienced, naive, and innocent to the point of being embarrassed if someone applies medicine on your forearm, but it is not normal at all. It was also cringe to watch 30 year old men chasing after college students and gave grooming vibes when the portrayal of the female leads was so childish.

So although I really like how this drama has been created and produced, It really bored me to death. I recommend it for children or teenagers who are just starting to watch dramas and they just want happy scenes of fluffy romance. Otherwise skip.

Night Has Come (2023– )
7/10
Thrilling and entertaining with loads of very graphic bloody violence (be aware)
20 December 2023
The drama is entertaining for sure. The pace is fast, acting is good and has an original concept.

Crazy plot twists and not predictable at all but the last plot twist was too unbelievable. I mean this wasn't a believable drama from the start, a bunch of students get stuck in a youth center and they are forced to start playing a game where they have to kill each other to survive.

Until then everything is good and although there's a few holes in the plot, you can ignore them and enjoy the action and rhythm of trying to figure out who are the bad guys and who will die every night ( be aware there's many very graphic violence and blood in this drama and they are not subtle showing them....)

But then towards the end there's a major change/twist in the plot that it's so unbelievable crazy, I am not sure it works for me. I feel like its the typical kdrama storyline of guilt tripping mixed with revenge koreans love so much and it just frustrates me.

Regardless, I think the ending is very fitting and I don't think we need a sequel for this.

Overall a nice watch for a Friday night with friends.

Gank Your Heart (2019–2020)

Bathe in the fire, rise from the ashes.
16 December 2023
This one was very entertaining and it was a surprise.

I have watched a few esports dramas and although this is not the best it is worth the watch.

In terms of the e-games scenes and battles Falling Into Your Smile is way better and the quality of the effects too. Same goes for the romance.

In this one the focus is less in the games or in the romance and more in what happened behind the scenes and what it takes to build a professional e-sports team. It very refreshing to watch the development of the characters and see them struggle trying to start from zero and rise to the top to achieve their dreams.

The drama is filled inspiring relationships of camaraderie, friendship and love and showing how a family can be chosen and when loyal and true to them it will be there for you forever.

I wanted to give it a bit higher rating but there were too many undeveloped storylines and some very frustrating plot holes and characters so I lowered it a bit.

As I fell in love with you, I started to have the will to live for the first time. So how could those feelings be wrong? I was practically dead already but you made me live.
14 December 2023
This one was so frustrating in so many ways but so satisfying in others.

This drama has an amazing story and it has many moments where you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen.

It has just a beautiful script and the narrative and romance are so meaningful, mesmerizing, deep and yet heartbreaking.

The characters are extremely complex, specially in their past life, and due to their tragic fate, they are left wounded but irreversibly tied forever in a twisted love story.

Everything is told in two different timelines and it continues to play us flashbacks from the past so we can understand what happened to them in their past lives. The problem comes when almost in every episode they replay and repeat same scenes over and over again, to the point that gets extremely boring and dragging.

There's way too many filler scenes, characters and conversations that are just absolutely redundant.

I wish this drama would have been made by someone different, it would have been completely different, it actually had the potential of being a masterpiece.

Overall still an okay watch, I enjoyed it and I actually thought the ending was perfectly fitting.

KBS Drama Special: Love Attack (2023)
Season 14, Episode 7
7/10
Very enjoyable, filled with meaningful romance and nice values
11 December 2023
I really love the specials that KBS releases once in a while, I am not sure how often they do it but they are usually pretty good stories and the quality overall, including the cast is amazing.

I enjoyed watching this special, it was a short story, very simple and something we have seen before many times in other productions but cute and full of emotion nonetheless.

The acting is better than most of short mini kdramas with more episodes, it was great display of emotions from every member of the cast.

Overall a pretty enjoyable watch, a no brainer if you are looking for a romantic, heartfelt short series and with valuable lessons for life.

Cute, endearing and super funny
11 December 2023
This was such a joy to watch. I literally had a smile on my face the whole two hours.

The story is very simple and straightforward but it is told in a very sweet and genuine way and makes you connect very quickly with the characters and what they are experiencing.

Just finished rewatching Sweet Home for the second time and watching Kin Sung Cheol in this role was such a shock I had to get used to it for a moment. How on earth can he play this innocent, naive, shy and hopeless romantic guitarist and absolutely transform into a psychopath monster in Sweet Home?! What a chameleon, what a performance (in both shows), I am In awe.

Another mention has to be for the little sister Ok Hee ( played by Choi Yoo Ri) gives so much flavor and richness to this drama, I love her character so much.

Overall this was amazing to watch. Great music and original songs as well. Great chemistry amongst the cast, extremely funny and a few romantic fluffs. Watch it, you will have a good time.
