LSH in Name Only
19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Gives the impression that it was producers by people who were mandated to make a LSH movie, written by people who don't like the LSH, directed by people who don't understand the LSH, for people who only watched because Supergirl was in the title.

This has to be based on the Bendis era.

A character that has been a hero for decades is turned into a villain. 75% of the Legionnaires are pushed aside for second tier heroes for what had better be saving on animation. The "who's a traitor" has its place in the LSH canon, but doesn't work when you're introducing a new and complicated team.

One thing it did get right is that the relationship between Supergirl and Brianiac 5 is pretty spot on.

The Legion of Super-heroes is a complicated and extensive part of comics and I do appreciate that it can be difficult to adapt. I just wish they had goen with an established LSH storyline and not a generic plot.

Didn't Hate it, But was VERY Frustrated by the Ending
26 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Visually nice. Some good acting from some, ok acting from most, phoning it in for most. I liked 85% of it, but I was deeply frustrated by the rest.

The killer was too obvious and the plot went out of its way to make his victim overly sympathetic and him overly unlikable. The movie thinks it's saying some deep commentary about fame, or genius worship, or something like that. To be honest, the commentary is so high handed and vague that it doesn't make any real sense. I'm sure some people will try to justify it by saying Edward Nortons character is an idiot, but the film doesn't treat him like one until the last 5 minutes. Whatever the justification, those scenes really drag down the movie.

What really got me was the ending when Janelle Mones character decides SHE'S GOING TO BURN DOWN THE MONA LISA for her own revenge! I get that her sister is dead, but that doesn't justify her destroying a priceless piece of art owned by the sovereign nation of France. And then she has the audacity to act like Edward Norton is solely responsible for it. And then we're supposed to feel good that everyone is going to tell the truth this time, without a mere mention that they are willing to risk going to prison for perjury. None of them are overly sympathetic to begin with, but they deserve at least an acknowledgement for their sacrafice.

This is pseudo-intellectual filmmaking at its best. Critics and crew are going to act like it's some groundbreaking piece of work. There are many reasons to like this movie, and you're not dumb or anything if you do. But no amount of puff pieces can cover up the fact that this is a deeply silly, predictable, albeit pleasant enough, way to kill 2.5 hours of your long weekend. Just remember, at the end of the day, you're still watching something from the guy who directed "The Last Jedi". And that should prepare you for what lies ahead.

The History of Comedy (2017–2018)
5/10
Not a bad series, but not all that good either.
24 April 2018
It's just not funny. Oh, it's very interesting. You will definitely learn a lot. And the clips they show are funny enough. But they are interviewing some of the funniest people alive and they are not funny. everything is so serious and they few jokes made only get a chuckle. The old timers like Betty White and Carol Burnett are wonderful. But anyone born after WW2 tends to fall flat after two minutes on camera. I expected to be falling off the couch laughing. Instead, I spent most of the time wishing Robin Williams and Joan Rivers would rise from the grave and save me from these serious, self-important people.

Grey's Anatomy: Song Beneath the Song (2011)
Season 7, Episode 18
I Laughed Out Loud More Than Once
16 October 2016
What should have been a serious and moving episode is completely undermined by all the singing. I thought the first song was pretty good, but looking back it was probably the shock. No one is completely horrible and they certainly take advantage of having several award winning singers in the cast. Almost every song had me laugh out loud by either coming out of nowhere or by how over dramatic it was. The song where Callie and Arizona are singing in a flying car and the one where Callie is singing on the gurney is particularly teeth clinching. My personal favorite (hated) sequence is when Callie is stroking her own face. It's just a little too cheesy. I know they were going for an out of body experience, but it's just way too over dramatic to be taken seriously and this is Grey's Anatomy we're talking about. Patrick Dempsey mentioned several times that he hates this episode and he is not alone.
