The 2024 San Diego Comic Con was full of surprises from some of the biggest franchises and studios. One of those was Marvel Studios, which made some shocking reveals about what fans can expect in the latter half of the Multiverse Saga.

Phase 4 had a bit of a rocky start, thanks to the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. It had a few highlights, with films like Spider-Man: No Way Home, but also some lows, like The Eternals. Phase 5, on the other hand, has had a very rough time, with movies like Ant-Man 3 and The Marvels outright losing money. So, we will have to see what is in store for 2025 and beyond.

The first segment talked about the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, which stars Anthony Mackie as the lead hero. Danny Ramirez came out on stage and was presented as the new Falcon, and Giancarlo Esposito revealed that he would be playing Sidewinder.

After skipping the convention last year, Marvel Studios' hotly anticipated return to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con tonight brought with it a bunch of cool MCU announcements. There was the mind-blowing reveal that Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and that the rumours of the Russo Brothers' return for those movies were in fact true. We also got an official title reveal and Fantasticar sneak peek from Matt Shakman's upcoming Fantastic Four movie. And, nestled among the announcements on the night, we also finally got confirmation that Lessons In Chemistry star Lewis Pullman will star in Thunderbolts*.

Although everyone is looking to Superman as the first major project of James Gunn’s new DC Universe, that honour actually belongs to Creature Commandos. The animated series is expected to debut on Max this December, and executive producer Dean Lorey told The Wrap it will serve as the “first expression” of the new franchise.

“That’s going to be the first expression of James Gunn’s DC Universe. We’re considering that canon, and I think it expresses his perspective, tonally, on where he wants the universe to go,” Lorey said before noting that the show is “nothing new.“

“It’s ‘Suicide Squad.’ He’s done it,” Lorey continued. “People aren’t going to be surprised by what it is, but I think they’ll be really encouraged to see how completely it’s going to inform this new version of the Dcu, which I’m very excited about.

The Suicide Squad has seen better days from different formats but the iconic anti-hero group did not have the same luck in the game industry. Rocksteady Studios went on to develop an ambitious live-service game set within the Batman Arkham universe but bit more than it could chew.

The developers envisioned adding more content beyond the launch date and for the gaming community to spend hours playing their favorite DC supervillains. However, the initial reception of the base game was less than favorable and the players have completely given up on the game.

Word has reached the Film Stories news desk that Max’s Arkham Asylum TV show is no longer happening at DC Studios.

The project has been in the works for several years and many showrunners, including Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, have tried to crack it, but it seems that we’ve reached the end of the road, at least for this adaptation.

The show was originally supposed to take place within Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe and focus on the Gotham Police Department, but the idea was abandoned in favour of a plot that focused on the Arkham Asylum, a hospital for the criminally insane. Reeves was attached as an executive producer for the show, too.

The first images and trailer for the movie received a mixed-to-negative response from fans of the classic 1994 movie. Most of that boiled down to Skarsgård's Eric looking more like Jared Leto's Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad than Brandon Lee's iconic interpretation of the comic book character.

However, this isn't a remake, it's a reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O'Barr. And, while the character's appearance has split opinions, the R-Rated action looks undeniably badass.

Season 2 of James Gunn’s DC action series “Peacemaker” has added Frank Grillo, Gunn announced Friday on Threads. Grillo will play Rick Flag Sr., the father of Suicide Squad member Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman in the previous two movies).

However, Grillo will debut as Rick Flag Sr. in animated form first. He’s part of the voice cast for “Creature Commandos,” an upcoming Max series about a black ops team of monsters working for Amanda Waller after she forms the Suicide Squad. “Creature Commandos” will kick off Gunn’s Phase One of the new DC Universe.
