Billy, Steve, and their parents share the surname "Nugent". Jim Jefferies' birth name was Geoffrey James Nugent.
DJ Qualls wasn't Jefferies' first choice for the role of Billy. He auditioned several actors with disabilities and none of them quite hit it enough for Jefferies except for one, whom Jefferies described as the most disabled person on Earth, until he found out he wasn't actually disabled. Jefferies condemned him for renting a nurse in the process of pretending to be disabled to claim a part intended for a disabled actor. He then decided on Qualls, joking that he already looks disabled.
Jefferies, Bakkedahl and Qualls became good friends during production and have been spotted at baseball games together.
