On August 13, the 61st birth anniversary of the legendary Sridevi, her daughter Janhvi Kapoor paid a heartfelt tribute by visiting the Tirupati temple with her beau, Shikhar Pahariya. This visit was a part of Janhvi’s tradition to honor her late mother on her special day. Dressed in a yellow saree with a teal blouse, Janhvi was seen seeking blessings at the temple, while Shikhar also wore traditional attire.
Janhvi shared her emotions with her followers on Instagram, posting a series of pictures that included a nostalgic photo of her with Sridevi, a photo of the temple stairs, and another where she is dressed in a traditional lehenga. Her post was accompanied by the caption, “Happy birthday Mumma I love you.”

Apart from directing action sequences for films like Himmatwala, Mr India, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Phool Aur Kaante, Dilwale?and Laal Baadshah, he had directed the 1999 film Hindustan Ki Kasam,?starring Ajay and megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mourned the death of Bollywood action director Veeru Devgan, calling it "a great loss for the industry".
In a letter to his son and actor Ajay Devgn. Modi wrote: "I am deeply saddened to learn of the demise of Veeru Devgan who was widely respected for his outstanding work across various domains in the Hindi film industry. This is a great loss for the industry."
"Devgan worked as a stuntman, action choreographer, director, producer and more. This is the sign of a man who completely dedicated himself to his chosen field and hence, kept discovering new ways of contributing to it."
Modi added that there was something deeply moving about people like Devgan, who took great risks to enthrall audiences in the era of no visual effects.

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty on Friday paid a tribute to veteran action choreographer Veeru Devgan, who passed a few days ago, calling him his "guru".
Remembering Veeru Devgan for his valuable life lessons, Shetty took to Instagram and wrote: "It takes real fathers to transform their boys into heroes. Back in the days when technology was not as advanced as today, Veeru Devgan choreographed some of the most interesting action sequences for Bollywood, making his actors' and stuntmen's safety top priority.
The Hindi film fraternity remembered all this and more about the veteran, who died here on Monday at the age of 85.
Remembering Veeru as a responsible director, actress Madhuri Dixit Nene told Ians: "He was such a caring action director who used to encourage us, but at the same time was very cautious about our safety. When he choreographed an action scene, he kept safety in mind. He was such a wonderful human being."
Actor-director Satish Kaushik, who had worked with him as an actor and director, was emotional after he returned from the funeral of his "Veeru paaji".
"He was such a gentleman. He was a 'Punjab ka puttar' in the true sense and had a huge heart.

As the morning of 24th February 2018 broke, I like many other started our day as any other day. With no regard to what was about to break on our social media feed. Our first reaction; denial. There is no way this is true. It’s a hoax. However, it was not to be. One by one, official accounts confirmed the Sri Devi had passed away. Wherever you were, whatever language you spoke. It was time to say goodbye to a heroine.

TributeSridevi was a trailblazer for the women actors in Indian film industries.Neelima MenonSridevi in 'Chaalbaaz'.Moondram Pirai (1982) was a battle between two titans – it was a rare cinematic moment when two brilliant actors stood on par with each other in every single frame. Though in the end, Kamal Haasan did cartwheel his way to winning several awards, Sridevi’s Viji, as someone who mentally regresses to the state of a child, was a revelation. It was a performance a lesser actor would have faltered in and turned into a caricature. Even today, it remains an unmatched performance. Sridevi was a pathbreaker in many ways. A child actor starting at the age of 4, who appeared in 21 films before making her debut as an adult in Moondru Mudichu, she managed to recreate the same success as an adult. The actor from south India who successfully bridged the geographic gap (there were a few before and after her, but none could refashion the aura she had), battled an unfamiliar language, had roles written for her, beautifully balanced glamour with meaty roles, and was the longest running lady superstar in Bollywood. Some of her biggest blockbusters rode solely on her screen presence – Chaalbaaz, Chandni, Mr India, Nagina. She delivered some early blows to the Bollywood glass ceiling and inspired generations of female actors to push the envelope and aim for superstardom. She has to her credit over 300 films in various languages – 49 in Tamil, 26 in Malayalam, 83 in Telugu, 6 in Kannada and 72 in Hindi. She starred opposite all the leading heroes (Ntr, Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna), commanded a fee on par with them, and consistently delivered hits in all the languages. In Tamil, she was a regular in the films of K Balachander, Bharathi Raja and Y Mahendra. They only offered her author-backed roles and she was only in her early 20s. In 16 Vayathiniley, she was a young girl torn between two men, in Meendum Kokila she was a traditional wife struggling to save her husband from the clutches of an actor. Sridevi effortlessly slipped into characters that belied her age, in all their complexity – in Sigappu Rojakkal she was a woman who discovered her husband’s psychopathic ways post marriage, while Priya had her playing a movie star who seeks a way out from her exploitative uncle. Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, and Sridevi – the formidable trio who grew together in Tamil cinema much before they took separate routes towards superstardom. And ironically, some of her best performances came during that period. “I liked Sridevi when she was in Tamil. She was acting then,” director Mani Ratnam was quoted saying in a 90s issue of Filmfare magazine. Sridevi repeated her Tamil film graph in Telugu as well. In fact, she has done the maximum number of films in her mother tongue. Sridevi was already a superstar when she stepped into Bollywood. In fact, Sanjay Dutt once said in an interview during the making of Gumraah that he was a fan of Sridevi and met her when she was shooting for a south Indian film. “She was petrified on seeing my eagerness and refused to shake hands with me.” Though she made her Hindi debut in Solva Saawan (1979) it was Himmatwala, opposite Jeetendra, where she played the rich spoilt miss that catapulted her into instant stardom in Hindi cinema, though not primarily for her acting. Despite starring in many unimpressive films with Jeetendra (which were also south Indian productions) and Jayaprada, it required the Hindi remake of her own Moondram Pirai – Sadma – to get the industry to take notice of her acting skills. Then came the blockbuster Nagina (1986) where she played an ‘ichadhari naagin’ or a shapeshifting woman and Sridevi had truly arrived, reinstating another big Sridevi theory – her ability to bring sanity and credibility to the most bizarre, far-fetched roles in equally mind-boggling films. Mr India a year later was a total package – an instance when she stole the thunder from the leading man, prompting the audience to rename the film as 'Miss India'. As a journalist (again a rare depiction for a female actor during that time), the actor brought to the table her impeccable comic timing (the Charlie Chaplin act remains matchless even today), incredible screen presence, and glamour. “I think for an actor you have to be shameless, uninhibited and if it's comedy, you have to raise it a few notches. This is a rarity, especially from a female actor. There is nothing Sridevi cannot do. After this performance, she could have just packed her bags and people would still remember her for centuries,” admitted Vidya Balan during the Jio Movie Mami Mela. Her Bollywood journey, save for the fag-end, remained consistently successful. Post Mr India, she was part of movies that celebrated the whole Sridevi package – dance, glamour, acting and her sheer screen presence. Sridevi seemed to be adept at every kind of emoting, like she adapted herself to the requirements of typical mainstream Hindi cinema – the loud exaggerated presence, her mad giggles, the subtle, the nuanced expressions, probably the reason why Kamal Haasan called her an “excellent bag of tricks.” Chaalbaaz, a remake of Seetha aur Geetha, also boasted of that rare feminist character in the headstrong Manju. A film where Rajinikanth and Sunny Deol were relegated to supporting roles. Similarly, Chandni, Lamhe (a film ahead of its time) were films that had strong, quirky, complex female characters. During the making of Lamhe, Sridevi’s father passed away, and yet she rejoined the shoot the day after his funeral and had to shoot a comic scene. In Khuda Gawah, she got equal importance as Amitabh Bachchan, often eclipsing him with her mere presence. Difficult to think of any other actor who could have pulled off that introductory scene with Bachchan with so much panache. In Gumraah, director Mahesh Bhatt recalls how he let her improvise for a scene where she sees her mother dead. "Sri just went numb and then slowly there is an emotional outburst. It's an astonishing transformation, to watch such a silent, shy person off screen turn into something else on screen." Sridevi was one actor who gave a new interpretation to the word 'sex appeal', much before the 'Rangeela's and 'Choli Ke Peechey's hit the box office. For the ‘Kaatey Na Katey’ song, the sari is wrapped snugly around her and yet there isn’t a more sensuous sight than the actress dancing in the rain. Or the utter mischief she brings to an otherwise sexy number in Chaalbaaz – 'Na janey kahan se’. Yet her talent remained largely untapped in Bollywood – she found herself starring in too many flamboyant costume dramas that simply explored her glamorous side. Oddly enough, she could pull it off – those elaborate feather hairdos, clothes made of tree-barks, those ridiculous flip-flops, atrocious shades of lipsticks, and dance to inane songs and choreography without batting an eyelid. “I think Sridevi has still not got the roles showcasing her talents,” said Jaya Bachchan. A lot has been said about Madhuri Dixit toppling Sridevi’s throne, but the fact remains that it was Sridevi who paved the way for other female actors to make a mark in the essentially male dominated industry. She remained the trailblazer. After Judaai (1997), she took a break for marriage and motherhood. And exactly 15 years later, she made her comeback with a character tailor-made for her. The docile, laddu making entrepreneur in English Vinglish. Suddenly it seemed like she never went anywhere – it was a kind of silent acting, which didn’t require much dialogue or explanations. “It’s marvellously direct – and it’s there in the scene where her insensitive husband declares in front of family that his wife was born to cook. Her reaction which seems to say, “Is there no end to this humiliation? I mean, I’m standing right here, right in front of you!” – is enclosed in the gentlest of quotation marks. Every single person in the audience knows what that face is thinking, what it’s saying without saying. This is a beautiful instance of silent-film acting, and it doesn’t need an intertitle,” wrote Baradwaj Rangan, film critic. Even her last film Mom was praised only for her presence. The 54-year-old Sridevi will remain the biggest female icon in Indian cinema – a woman who grew up in cinema, without godfathers, without mentors, unconsciously pushing patriarchy into a corner, braving male domination, reigning supreme for over three decades and inspiring generations of female actors to dream big. Views expressed are the author's own.

It looks like the self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal R Khan, known for his controversial remarks, hasn't learnt his lessons yet. After getting embroiled in an ugly fight with Ajay Devgn's Shivaay vs Ae Dil Hai Mushkil controversy last month, it seems like Krk is borrowing trouble from tomorrow by tickling the tail of the sleeping Lion. In a fresh incident, Krk seems to have watched Shivaay a day ahead of its release. And without thinking much of what will happen next, Krk leaked the opening and the plot of Ajay Devgn's dream project on his Twitter page. Before revealing the story, Krk also posted a picture showing the opening title scene of the film. However, he deleted his tweet but continued expressing his views and revealing some of the scenes of the movie. But the film's distributor Reliance Entertainment, was quick to notice this and tweeted the screenshot...

Watching you metamorphose into to this young confident character called Avantika on screen has indeed been a satisfying moment for someone who has known you since you were in your pigtails!
From Jiya in Chand Sa Roshan Chehra in 2005 [when you were still in school] to S S Rajamouli's Bahubali, a movie that is creating a storm at the box-office all over India and an impact, worldwide, this is just The Beginning of your journey!
I understand you went to the South to cut your teeth, so to speak, and found success there early on. Himmatwala, Humshakals and Entertainment, did not really give you that impact in Bollywood that you were looking for. With Avantika, you seemed to have reignited your Box Office interest in Bollywood. I'm sure serious film-makers here, like Rajamouli in the South, will start looking at you differently. Amitabh Bachchan last played the 'hero' in the 1999 film Sooryavansham. In a double role, his younger self was paired opposite the late Soundarya almost 30 years his junior then! The huge age gap showed. The younger Amitabh was visibly uncomfortable in his scenes with Soundarya. His gait was almost apologetic. The film bombed and soon he took to playing roles of a father beginning with Mohabbatein, followed by Baghbhan. Amitabh was 57 years old then!
Sunny Deol today is 57 years old and he has been paired opposite a heroine almost 30 years his junior in Kangana Ranaut in I Love NY. Surprisingly, Sunny has done what Amitabh could not.he has pulled off a love story with charm and grace. Queen Kangana Ranaut surely knows how to dress in her best, and Himmatwala actress Tamannaah Bhatia seems to be inspired by that, as she was spotted wearing an outfit similar to Kangs.
Tamannaah was spotted in red and white striped crop top at the recent Bahubali trailer launch event. Co-incidentally, Kangana Ranaut also made an appearance in a similar white and red striped crop top at one of her previous movies, Rajjo audio launch event.
If Kangana draped a saree on the top, Tamannaah paired it up with a floral skirt.

Giving out duds at Box-office is not harmful but what is really demeaning is being part of unworthy, embarrassing movies. Though we are not making any perception about the caliber and potential of an actor like Ajay Devgn, there are few flicks which the superstar would also want disown like us or he might always regret of. While we take a look at the disasters he readily (and repeatedly) did, we also hope Ajay steers clear of it in future.

It seems the social networking bug has finally bitten filmmaker Sajid Khan as he recently joined a micro-blogging site. It was the perfect occasion for many people to unleash their funny side. Here's how some of them 'welcomed' the Himmatwala and Humshakals director:
@NumbYaar: Robert Vadra hates Sajid Khan movies the most. Because no plot.
@RoflIndian: Sajid Khan is plump because only his movies run, that too for just a few weeks.
@mildlyclassic: The only Khan you can abuse without getting abused by other Khans' fans is Sajid Khan.
@RoflIndian: Sajid Khan joins Twitter. 140 characters but no plot.
@sherlock_er: Sajid Khan joined twitter because someone said "Twitter pe 140 characters use kar sakte hai."
@hankypanty: Sajid Khan is on Twitter.
Should have joined before Humshakals.
Would have helped him learn how to edit the number of characters.
@Spooferman_: Why can't Sajid Khan drive a car?
Because he has no sense of direction.

With the debacle of Himmatwala and mixed reactions to Humshakals, we for sure know that the 'H' factor does not work for Sajid Khan anymore. In fact one of the leading ladies of the film, Bipasha Basu backed out from the promotions of Humshakals and Esha also revealed that she would not want her father to watch that film. If that wasn't enough, now, it is Saif Ali Khan who is not only disappointed by the film but has also refused to do a film with Sajid Khan again. ‘Humshakals’ has brought in moolah and what makes it special is the fact that footfalls have come in despite the worst hammering ever for a Bollywood flick. After a good weekend, the film had decent collections in the weekdays, hence resulting in around 56 crore coming in.
With the film managing to bring in audience in the most adverse of critical response, one does wonder whether collections would have been better had the backlash not been to this effect. Nevertheless, for all involved, this has turned out to be a plus outing even as they move on to their next. Saif Ali Khan, Sajid Khan and Tamannaah Bhatia can well leave behind the disappointment of ‘Bullett Raja’ and ‘Himmatwala’ whereas for Riteish Deshmukh, there has been some good all around appreciation. Esha Gupta has another film of hers collect well after ‘Raaz 3′.

Esha Gupta has another film of hers collect well after ‘Raaz 3′.

As is always the case with Sajid Khan films (barring a Himmatwala), once again the critics have been ignored by the cinema audience, resulting in a good 38-39 crore (to be validated) opening weekend for his latest, Humshakals. The Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu, Chunky Pandey, Ram Kapoor and Tamannaah Bhatia starrer, Humshakals, has also grossed $2m during its first weekend (20 June- 22 June) from the overseas. There are some movies that can be remade with current trends/technology and made to suit a new generation of viewers. Who knows, they can even be a cult classic in themselves. But to walk into a film with the byline ‘A Film Made By Sajid Khan’ is to forgo that notion and a few rights. The rights to have logic in your dictionary, the right to any real wit or sense of humour and the right to have a threshold on how much crass writing you can bear.
There is no point in making a mention of a story since there is none. In fact, films like Double Dhamaal and Rascals had more of a story than Humshakals does. Sach. Three sets of Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor, foreign locals, impossible situations, three beautiful ladies with no screen presence at all and a soundtrack to put you to sleep.

Mumbai, March 19: Actress Tamannaah Bhatia, who made an unimpressive Hindi debut in "Himmatwala", has lost the chance to play Shraddha Kapoor's role in the Telugu version of Bollywood hit "Aashiqui 2".
The casting happened after weeks of intense negotiation with Tamannaah, who apparently asked for an astronomical amount to act in the film.
"There were problems with Tamannaah from the word go. Not only was she asking for an unreasonable amount of money, she was also not the film's co-producer and leading man Sachin Joshi's choice," said a source.
Finally, the role has gone to former beauty queen Ankita Shorey.
Confirming.

2013 has had some fantastic films from the passionate Ram-Leela to the dramatic Kai Po Che. There have of course been some majorly disappointing films. These either had fantastic trailers which showed promised of exciting cinema, or boasted star casts that would surely choose only the best of scripts. Take a look at the over-hyped films that brought nothing but heart-breaking sadness to the filmi buffs globally.
10. Bullet Raja
We were expecting a little bit of action, a little bit of comedy and little bit of romance. Tigmanshu Dhulia, director of the fantastic Paan Singh Tomar, sadly lets us down with this directorial venture. The dialogues are disappointing, the music is forgettable and draws the film out unnecessarily and the story is quite unbelievable. Sorry Saif, better luck next time.
9. Race 2

The year 2013 wasn’t without its awful dreck, unlistenable songs, and dreadfully earnest star sons trying their hand at acting. It was also the year where trumpeting your own horn (looking at you Mr Sajid Khan!) proved to an ironically bad choice, promotion tours became exhaustively boring, and albums that made our ears bleed. There were many terrible films and debuts that made us cringe, and shake our fists at the wasted potential. Here once again are the Bollywood Razzies of 2013.
Awful Actress – Pallavi Sharda
It was quite astonishing that Sharda managed to bodge up a dream debut with Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam. While the film was hyped to be a rollicking comedy, Sharda was picked out from the crop of Bollywood actresses for Abhinav Kashyap’s film away from Dabangg mania. Sharda looked completely uncomfortable in her big role, where the three Kapoors tried to salvage the crumbling story and bad writing.

2013 saw legends, established celebrities, and newcomers alike try their hands (and hips!) at item numbers. As usual, the BollySpice team enjoyed watching all our favorite actors and actresses shake a leg on the big screen but a select few stood out the most.
5. Sonakshi Sinha – “Thank God It’s Friday” (Himmatwala), “Party All Night” (Boss)
Sure, “Thank God It’s Friday” was probably one of the most annoying songs of the year, but we have to hand it to Sonakshi for finally making an effort to shed that Desi damsel image with some impressive club hits this year. Sonakshi handled “Thank God It’s Friday” all on her own and her appearance in “Party All Night” (a true club-dance number featuring Honey Singh) was a treat. Here’s to seeing more sides of Sonakshi in 2014!

As a south filmgoer and Bollywood naach-gaana fanatic, masala fest movies are not new to me. Yet even when a film has all the trimmings of a throwback action film, there are guarantees it will work. Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala is testimony to that. Tigmanshu Dhulia is stepping into the commercial arena with Bullet Raja starring Saif Ali Khan, Jimmy Shergill and Sonakshi Sinha. The intention is to make a masala topped entertainer. The result is a film that throws at you every known cliche possible while bringing back some of the Dhulia style.
Raja (Saif Ali Khan) aka Bullet Raja and his best bud Rudra (Jimmy Shergill) lead this rise of a commoner to become a dreaded gangster with the love angle covered by Mitali played by Sonakshi Sinha. But for every rise, there is a fall and that’s where Sharp Shooter-come-local law enforcement Inspector (Vidyut Jamwal) comes in.

Mumbai, Oct 21: After Sajid Khan's "Himmatwala", it seems that actress Tamannah Bhatia wants to cash in on her 'desi' image. The southern beauty has been appointed the brand ambassador for sari brand Joh Rivaaj.
The actress did a photo shoot Sunday for the brand.
"It's nice to be associated with a brand like Joh Rivaaz. Shooting for the brand was a pleasure," Tamannah said in a statement.
The 24-year-old is the perfect face for the brand, said Vinod Kothari, owner of Joh Rivaaj.
"We were looking for someone who is young and a popular face for the brand. Tamannah fitted the brand profile perfectly, so we chose.

Satyagraha opened on expected lines and with the kind of massive release that it got for itself, even an opening that hovered around the 50%-60% mark was good enough to make it go past the 10 crore mark on Friday. Collections continued to be stable over the rest of the weekend, hence resulting in around 38 crore* coming in. In the process, it has also left behind the 30 crore opening weekend of Raajneeti.
Now it has to be seen if the Prakash Jha directed affair brings on consistent collections during the weekdays as well and leaves behind the 54 crore first week that Raajneeti had enjoyed. Considering the fact that it belongs to the socio-political genre that has seldom brought in moolah, this would be fantastic. The film is mounted on a huge scale though with a massive star cast to boast of which means it needs to have a good run for many more days to follow.

Last four weeks have been rare instances of films enjoying a solo release for themselves and Satyagraha is last of the season before multiple films start hitting the screens week after week. After Chennai Express, Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara and Madras Cafe, this Prakash Jha directed film is yet another solo release of the week and it would be looking at making a killing out of the platform meted to it. The film appears to be yet another hard hitting tale from the director and since it is being pitched as ‘Raajneeti 2′ now, expectations have gone further up. Moreover, the film has an A-league cast comprising of Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee which makes it quite attractive on the face value. Since the film isn’t one of those quintessential ‘masala’, family, action or comedy affairs, it can’t be expected...

Mumbai, Aug 22: His last film "Himmatwala" bombed at the box office, but Ajay Devgn, who has been part of the industry for over two decades, says a flop can't take a toll on his career.
"One flop film doesn't affect you as you are not running short of good films. People also know that film didn't do well, but the actor has been accepted for so many years, so it happens. It's part of the game," said Ajay who entered Bollywood in 1991 with "Phool Aur Kaante".
In the meantime, the National Award-winning actor considers himself lucky for being accepted in both serious as well as comedy films.
He said: "I consider myself.
