In 2024, anime more than ever has felt like a place to escape to. The medium, ever a canvas for the fantastical and the weirds, was defined in 2024 by high-fantasy adventures like “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” or “Delicious in Dungeon,” shows that created lavish worlds of fantasy and adventure that nonetheless felt real and intimate in how vigorously they were constructed and depicted. It’s hard not to read a bit into it how, in a year where the collective international mood was one of deep fatigue, anime seemed more interested in exploring other worlds than studying our own.
Of course, there were plenty of great anime from varying shades of genres that released across 2024. There were glitzy show business psychological dramas like “Oshi No Ko,” intimate sports romances like “Blue Box,” and occult horror sci-fi action romantic comedies like “Dan Da Dan.” What set the good shows from the great shows this year,...

From animation to plotline, Solo Leveling is nothing short of iconic. Based on the manhwa by Chu-gong, the anime was a full rager in its first season. Its unique take on strength and courage is what sets it apart from other series.
The concept of leveling up is a common theme among the new-age anime. But the series took it up a notch through its impeccable visuals. With the second season’s trailer, the series would be a real treat.

Be it visuals or the opening song, fans can’t help but laud the trailer. For sure, it would be a complete banger in terms of its production quality. What’s even more interesting is that the series lived up to its title in most aspects.

Delicious in Dungeon is an anime adaptation of Ryoko Kui's popular manga series; the first season is now available to watch on Netflix. There are 24 episodes available to stream now, with a second season in the works. Studio Trigger, the production company behind the anime, is known for its strikingly beautiful art and animation, and they’ve made Delicious in Dungeon a visual feast.
But the characters in Delicious in Dungeon are after a different sort of feast. On the surface, it’s a show about a group of Dungeons & Dragons-esque adventurers defeating monsters, earning riches, and eventually confronting the dreaded Mad Mage. However, it becomes much more when the cleric Falin gets eaten by a red dragon after saving her brother Laios from its flames. In a weird twist of events, Sony Group Corporation is reportedly interested in acquiring Kadokawa, a Japanese media conglomerate responsible for the distribution of several famous anime, movies, and games. If this comes true in the next few weeks, Sony will have a huge part in the anime industry and its distribution, along with the gaming and film industry. However, the company already has its hands on other anime companies, such as Crunchyroll, Funimation, and others. Fans are more concerned than excited at this point.

The main concern surrounding this possible acquisition is the responsibility of publishing anime titles falling on Western publishers. It’s something that has almost always guaranteed failure and nobody wants Sony to have this much control over the anime industry. The company already has a 2% stake in Kadokawa and owning them might be going too far for everyone’s comfort.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is all the rage with its stunning visuals and animation. The series is based on the Polish video game franchise Cyberpunk 2077. Produced by Trigger, it is one of the top 10 animated series in the Cyberpunk genre.
Apart from the animation and visuals, it is highly praised for its storyline. Like most cyberpunk series, it highlights the adversities of the futuristic society. From corruption to violence, it is reminiscent of old-school animated series. But there’s a catch.

Amidst monsters and mayhem, Delicious in Dungeon offers a fresh take on the adventure genre. From its visuals to storyline, it’s anything but a bog-standard series. This holds true with the compelling storyline and light-hearted themes. What’s interesting is that the manga doesn’t try hard to be extraordinary. Even the author vouches for this in terms of the characters.

In an interview, Ryoko Kui revealed the ordinary nature of the protagonist. While most readers speculate their theories regarding his behaviour, it is quite opposite. In her revelation she also highlights the importance of food as an underlying theme in the series.

Delicious in Dungeon may instantly remind readers of Dungeons and Dragons due to the obvious name. It, however, isn’t the case with this series because of its fresh storyline.

With its recent first season, Dungeon Meshi, or Delicious in Dungeon has become a buzzing topic in the anime and manga industry. Created by Ryōko Kui, this unique series has left fans craving more — both in terms of its culinary adventures and its complex character relationships. However, when it comes to writing the story, Kui-sensei restrains herself from overtly depending on fans’ feedback.

The fantasy genre of anime has gotten into a kind of slump with the popularity of isekai–which were novel when they were conceived, but have devolved into male fantasies where the protagonists enter a magic world, slay monsters, and get a harem of women. While fans have started getting sick of isekai stories, fantasy as a genre is finding a return to form with recent properties like “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”, and Studio Trigger’s recent adaptation of the fantastic “Dungeon Meshi” or “Delicious in Dungeon” by author Ryoko Kui.
The anime has successfully adapted multiple arcs of the manga, and a second season is already underway. For fans who can’t wait though, they’ve turned to the original manga to further explore the fate of Laios, Marcille, and the rest of the Touden Party.

According to Wikipedia: Isekai is a genre of Asian stories. It includes novels, light novels, films, manga, anime, and video games that revolve around a displaced person or people who are transported to and have to survive in another world such as a fantasy world, game world, or parallel universe with or without the possibility of returning to their original world. Isekai is one of the most popular genres of anime, and isekai stories share many common tropes – for example, a powerful protagonist who is able to beat most people in the other world by fighting. This plot device typically allows the audience to learn about the new world at the same pace as the protagonist over the course of their quest or lifetime. If the main characters are transported to a game-like world, the genre can overlap with LitRPG.

But in recent years, there hasn't been as drastic a tonal change as with "Delicious in Dungeon," a show that doesn't exactly pull the rug from under the audience, but rather organically reveals that the silly little comedy you've been watching was actually a brutal fantasy epic with big stakes and ancient conflicts coming to a head.
