When plankton invasion was announced, I had nothing but mantle low expectations. I really don't think I was alone regarding that first impression. The show looked like one those fly-by-night cartoons that play for a week and are never heard of again due to being canceled faster than the arrival of the Westminster Baptist church at a gay pride parade.
After having seen several episodes, the show really isn't half bad. Its not great, but worth a watch some time. The military-spy theme going on is a fun one. Elite soldier style Planktons are attempting to bring about global warming to heat the earth, melt the icecaps, flood the surface and invade. Its a great set-up for a cartoon. They believe small actions they carry out are significant to the overall status of the earth (keeping one beach littered will accelerate global warming significantly). They do this, while at the same time educating kids in subtle ways about the effects their actions have on the environment. The characters aren't half bad and I've grown to appreciate their personalities and the shows style of humor. The only true downside is the quality of the 3D animation, which is admittedly poor.
Overall it's surprisingly watchable. 7/10.
