A few years prior to making this film, director Dandara Ferreira helmed O Nome Dela é Gal (2017), an HBO docu-series focused on the life of Gal Costa. During its making, conversations about a narrative film sparked and Costa asked Ferreira to direct the project.
One of several Brazilian biopics released in 2023, along with Mussum: O Filmis (2023), Mamonas Assassinas: O Filme (2023), Nosso Sonho (2023) and Angela (2023).
Sophie Charlotte said "yes" on the spot when being offered the role of Gal Costa. The singer gave Charlotte her blessing for her portrayal, but sadly passed away before production was completed.
Rita Lee appears during the party scene, portrayed by Caroline Andrade. She died in the year this film was released, on March 8, 2023. Andrade has further videos portraying and performing as Lee on her official Youtube channel.
