The prognosis is strong for St. Denis Medical — NBC has renewed the hospital-set comedy for a second season, TVLine has learned.

Season-to-date, St. Denis Medical is averaging 3.9 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating (with delayed playback), right on par with time slot predecessor Night Court‘s Season 2 numbers. The mockumentary is the top-rated freshman show of the 2024-25 TV season (tying Doctor Odyssey and High Potential) and, per NBC, has reached 21.4 million total viewers across all platforms.

Some of them will stay in the universe by acting in the next installment of the Taylor Sheridan-created franchise. Within days of “Nobody Wants This” hitting Netflix, the romcom series has been the source of viral moments and inspired lots of binge watches, with the Adam Brody and Kristen Bell-led series debuting to 10.3 million views in its opening weekend.

“It’s honestly mind-blowing,” series creator Erin Foster told TheWrap. “I could not have prepared myself — I don’t think anybody could.”

For Foster, whose real life experience of converting to Judaism to marry her husband (who is not a rabbi) inspired the series, the response from fans has been “validating” as viewers resonate with the show’s themes of “love and dating in your 30s, and tying your self worth to a bad relationship.”

CBS has set the first three cast members for the upcoming daytime soap opera “Beyond the Gates.”

Tamara Tunie, Daphnee Duplaix, and Karla Mosley are all joining the series, which was originally picked up at the broadcast network in April under the title “The Gates.” As previously reported, the show was developed under CBS Studios’ content partnership with the NAACP. The show will begin production this fall in Atlanta and will premiere on CBS in early 2025.

The official description for “Beyond the Gates” states:

“‘Beyond the Gates’ is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington D.C., and in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. Here you’ll find a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty.

Netflix isn't the first to bring the former 2000s teen drama stars together. Bell and Brody both appeared in 2011's Scream 4, though they didn't share scenes. Brody also appeared in three episodes of Bell's Showtime series House of Lies in 2013. However, their biggest connection might be Gossip Girl. The Veronica Mars star provided the narration for The CW's teen drama, while Brody ended up marrying series star Leighton Meester. What a small world!

Nobody Wants This was first announced in March 2023 with Bell attached to the comedy from creator Erin Foster and executive producer Steven Levithan, who's best known for Modern Family.

In the upcoming episode of “Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese,” titled “House of Lies,” the Smith twins face a tough situation. The town has always looked up to their great-great-grandpa as a hero, but the gang uncovers some surprising truths about him. This revelation shakes the twins’ belief in their family legacy, and they feel down about it.

As the episode unfolds, the gang realizes they need to lift the twins’ spirits. They brainstorm different ideas to cheer them up, showing how important friendship is in tough times. The humor and creativity of the characters will shine through as they come up with silly plans and fun activities.

Don Cheadle is the latest addition to the stacked cast for the upcoming Peacock limited true crime series “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.”

Cheadle joins previously announced series lead Kevin Hart in the show, along with fellow cast members Taraji P. Henson, Samuel L. Jackson, Terrence Howard, and Dexter Darden.

The series is based on the podcast “Fight Night,” which was produced by Will Packer along with iHeartPodcasts and Doghouse Pictures. It will be set in Atlanta in 1970. The official description states that it will tell “the infamous story of how an armed robbery during the night of Muhammad Ali’s (Darden) historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life, but an entire city’s destiny.”

The Goldbergs alum Wendi McLendon-Covey has found her next TV project, and In Living Color vet David Alan Grier is along for the ride. NBC has ordered St. Denis Medical, a single-camera workplace comedy starring the two actors, to series for the 2023–2024 broadcast season. In a press release, NBC describes the show as “a mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.” McLendon-Covey and Grier both celebrated the news on Instagram. “Weeeee! When someone talks about improvisation, odds are your mind goes to what is known as short-form; theater games or quick scenes, the sort of performances popularized by “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and seen in small theaters. Most people have seen – or been in – groups like this.

Long-form improv, as the name implies, offers a different challenge. Rather than taking suggestions throughout a show for different scenes, performers only take a few suggestions at the top of a show and proceed to perform the rest of the show based on those. While there may be several scenes within a show, the idea is that they are all related to those initial prompts.
