When the Spanish Civil War takes place the Republican government sent 3.000 children to Russia to protect them from Phalangists bombings . The first to leave were the children in the orphanages . Beatriz (Esther Regina) is a bourgeoisie woman , a single mother with a man who refused to marry her and whose daddy and sibling (who subsequently to be enlisted in División Azul) were Nationalists , and she , then , decided non abort , but to hide her son in an orphanage in Madrid . Upon learning of the impending trip to Russia , she becomes a volunteer to protect her beloved child . 1937 year , about 1945 children arrive in Moscow . On June 41 , Hitler invaded Russia and Moscow is besieged , kiddies and their protectors getaway themselves . A bit later on , they arrive 200 kilometers to Moscow South . At one of these stops are joined by Alvaro (Carlos Iglesias) , a Spanish member of the Communist party . The group of children , their teachers and tutors travel to Stalingrado . Later on , in 1942 takes place Stalingrado siege and the continuous arrival of fresh troops for the defense of the city hinder the journey of the Spanish . The kiddies and and beneficents escape from Stalingrado and go to the German Republican in the Volga populated by German exiled people and with villagers banished by empress Catalina the Great and subsequently by Stalin . Along the way they suffer scarcity , starvation , penury and terrible deaths . Finally , they arrive in a city called Ufa nearly Mounts Urals . 1953 , it happens Stalin's death . 1956 , Russia allows citizens return Spain . Then , Beatriz goes back to Spain . The film is dedicated to ¨A Los Que No Volvieron¨ .
This interesting film about ¨Los Niños De La Guerra¨ , it is full of drama , nostalgia , good feeling , touching images as well as sad scenes , including scarcity , famine and penury . It is a simple , dramatic and thought-provoking portrait of a time when the Spanish had to go Russia in order to flee from a bloody war . It deals with a sensitive love story in which two adults sacrifice themselves for several unfortunate , starved and distressed children . A brooding tale of love , pain , fight and sacrifice . Set shortly after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) , in which some children , babysitters , nurses , benefactor , and teachers undertake a dangerous journey , surrounded by the Nazis , and thousands of miles from their country and their world . This ¨Spansi !¨ holds some scenes that bear remarkable resemblance to ¨Enemy at the gates¨ as when the starring couple , Carlos Iglesias/Esther Regina , making love surrounded by people , similarly to Jude Law/Rachel Weisz . Main cast is frankly excellent as Esther Regina playing as Beatriz , she is daughter of a wealthy family of conservatory trending who became pregnant taking the identity of a dead republican and Carlos Iglesias as a political commissar of the Communist Party of Spain who died the same day of Francisco Franco death and adding an unnecessary voice in off explaining happenings by this same protagonist . The film displays a rousing and moving musical score by Mario De Benito , and including a final song by Amancio Prada . And a colorful and evocative cinematography by Tote Trenas . It was a limited hit among viewers ; however , being successful in the various film festivals it took part in . As it won Audience Award Carlos Iglesias (director) in Huelva Latin American Film Festival 2010 and Nominated Newcomer Award Female Esther Regina conceded by Spanish Actors Union 2011 .
The motion picture was compellingly directed by Carlos Iglesias and co-financed by Canal Sur , ICO and Junta De Andalucia . Carlos has developed a long artistic career . From the early 90s upwards , Carlos Iglesias opted mainly for television shows of all different kinds : drama productions (in José Ramón Larraz's "Goya" ; in Mario Camus's "La Forja Un Rebelde"; in Luis García Berlanga's "Blasco Ibáñez") ; TV series (in Vicente Escrivá's "Éste Es Mi Barrio" and "Manos a La Obra" along with Angel De Andrés López ; also in "Siete Vidas" and Sergio Cabrera's "Cuéntame Cómo Pasó") ; and as main actor in various TV shows, such as "Esta Noche Cruzamos Mississippi" .
