James Gray’s crime film Paper Tiger has already assembled an impressive trio of leads: Adam Driver, Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong.

James Gray has some heavyweight features on his resume, including Ad Astra and The Lost City Of Z. He even appeared in a special episode of our podcast.

The filmmaker is now turning his creativity towards the crime genre next having scripted Paper Tiger, his next directorial outing. Furthermore, he’s assembled quite the cast to impress potential investors at this week’s American Film Market.

Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s banner Veterans will oversee international sales rights next week at the American Film Market, with CAA Media Finance representing domestic rights.

James Gray, the director of “Ad Astra,” has revealed his next film, an original screenplay and crime drama called “Paper Tiger.”

Gray’s latest film, his ninth feature, will star Adam Driver and will reunite him with his stars from 2022’s “Armageddon Time,” Jeremy Strong and Anne Hathaway.

“Paper Tiger” is described as a tense and gritty story about two brothers pursuing the American Dream, only to become entangled in a scheme that turns out to be too good to be true. As they try to navigate their way through an ever-more dangerous world of corruption and violence, they find themselves and their family brutally terrorized by the Russian “Mafiya.”

The film is being launched to buyers at next week’s AFM, with CAA Media Finance handling U.S. rights and Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s The Veterans handling international sales. The worldwide rights to the film are available.

Originating with 2022's Evan Peters starring Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, prolific TV creator Murphy's show tackles a different real life monster with each new cycle.

The International Jury for this year’s Venice International Film Festival has been finalized after the previous confirmation of French actress Isabelle Huppert as its chair.

Now, American director and screenwriter James Gray, British director and screenwriter Andrew Haigh, Polish director, screenwriter, and producer Agnieszka Holland, and Brazilian director-screenwriter Kleber Mendonça Filho are the latest additions to the jury. “Criminal” is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. The official description states that the series is “an interlocking universe of crime stories.”

Hunnam will star as Leo. The character is described as “A brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”

Hunnam joins previously announced cast members Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison in the series.

This is not the first time Hunnam has starred as a criminal in a TV series or film.

Writer and director Ari Aster has begun production on his newest film, “Eddington,” and he has assembled quite a cast.

Now boasting two Oscars, Emma Stone will appear in the film, as will Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix, marking his second collaboration with Aster after last year’s love-it-or-hate-it-but-definitely-respect-it “Beau is Afraid.” Oscar-nominee and current Harkonnen meme king Austin Butler, Marvel’s future Reed Richards Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Tony winner Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr. round out the incredibly stacked cast.

A24, which has released all of Aster’s features (“Hereditary” and “Midsommar” before “Beau”) announced the “contemporary western” that is “coming soon” via Instagram. Aster has parted ways with his usual cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski and is working with the legendary Persian-French lenser Darius Khondji, whose credits include “Uncut Gems,” “The Lost City of Z,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Stealing Beauty,” “Seven,” and “ The City of Lost Children.

Production on Ari Aster’s latest film is a go. Cameras have begun rolling on Eddington, the next project from the talented filmmaker who has bought us Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau Is Afraid. The film is being described as a ‘Western-noir dark ensemble comedy’ and as with all of his projects, is being backed by trendy production company A24.

We’re not sure quite what to make of that description, but there’s no doubt that Aster has the ‘ensemble’ part of that description covered. Along with announcing the commencement of production on social media, Aster also revealed the cast that he has assembled for the film and it boasts some serious acting talent.

I can't say if actor Tom Holland is well-suited to play Spider-Man, but I can say with absolute certainty that he is a first-rate teen heartthrob. He's handsome, affable, and dazzling in interviews. He has mastered the self-deprecating smile, and his tendency to give away the plot details of Avengers movies weirdly humanizes him. When it comes to acting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems little else is demanded of its leading men. Acting is less important than ineffable charm.

Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” is the third collaboration from the team behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Trio Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg produced the nine-part World War II epic series, which spotlights the men who fought in the 8th Air Force, specifically the men of the 100th Bomb Group. The vivid and vital story finds roots in the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller.

The crew of a typical Eighth Air Force heavy bomber plane included ten men — a pilot and his co-pilot flying the B17, the navigator and the bombardier in the machine’s nose, the flight engineer behind the pilot, the radio operator, two waist gunners, a ball turret gunner and a tail gunner. At best, Guy Ritchie's reputation errors on the side of eclectic. Apple Original Films has announced its final release plans, in partnership with Paramount Pictures, for Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.” The film will open wide globally on October 20, skipping the previously announced limited release that would have occurred two weeks earlier.

The move shows just how much confidence Apple has in this awards contender after its starry debut at Cannes: IndieWire’s own David Ehrlich called it Leonardo DiCaprio’s best performance. Every 10 years or so, Hollywood seems to fall head over heels in love with a writer. In the 1990s, studios couldn't stop turning John Grisham's legal drama/thriller novels into movies. Occasionally, actors take on a role that gets its hooks in them and doesn't completely untether once shooting is over. It's happened to some of the best performers on the planet, and it apparently happened to Tom Holland while playing Danny Sullivan in the upcoming Apple TV+ crime miniseries "The Crowded Room."

Based on Daniel Keyes' nonfiction book "The Minds of Billy Milligan," which details the criminal exploits of a serial rapist afflicted with dissociative identity disorder, the project was nearly James Cameron's follow-up to "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." Murray Melvin, a British actor known for his roles in The Phantom of the Opera, A Taste of Honey, Torchwood and Barry Lyndon, died Friday. He was 90.

His rep Thomas Bowington confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Melvin died at St. Thomas’ hospital in London.

“He was one of my closest friends and will be missed by so many of us who had the privilege to know him,” Kerry Kyriacos Michael, a London-bade creative director and producer, wrote on Twitter Saturday.

Born on Aug. 10, 1932, in London, Melvin made his acting debut in 1957 with Joan Littlewood’s Theatre Workshop Company in a production of Macbeth at the Theatre Royal Stratford.

Actor Murray Melvin, whose extensive work in film and on stage was highly respected by his peers, has died from complications from a fall suffered in December. He was 90 and died on April 14, according to Kerry Kyriacos Michael MBE, creative director at Theatro Technis.

Melvin’s body of work included time with Michael Caine and directory Stanley Kubrick. After making his debut in 1957 at the Theatre Royal in Stratford in Macbeth, he went on to appear in such notable films as Alfie (1966), Barry Lyndon (1975) and The Phantom of the Opera (2004).

Right on the heels of “Armageddon Time,” James Gray is teaming back up with Focus Features. The acclaimed filmmaker will direct “Ezekiel Moss,” a new feature set in the Great Depression, for the distribution company, a source confirmed to IndieWire.

According to the logline, “Ezekiel Moss” will be a ghost story set in the Great Depression and will focus on the friendship between a young boy and a drifter who arrives in his small town that may or may not have the ability to speak with the dead. Gray will direct the film from a screenplay by Keith Bunin, whose other credits include 2020’s “Onward” and Questlove’s upcoming remake of Disney’s “The Aristocats.”
