A Minnesota woman was left paralyzed after a falling tree broke her neck as she lounged in a hammock with her boyfriend.
Alyssa Pfannenstein, 25, was lying in a hammock with her boyfriend, Justin Janssen, while watching her daughter play, according to Wcco-tv. The couple had unknowingly attached their hammock to a rotted birch tree, which uprooted and fell.
“All of the sudden this big boom hit me in the back of the head,” Pfannenstein told the outlet.
“It was surreal. At the moment, there was not even time to panic because it happened so quickly,” Janssen explained.

I know what you are thinking when you read that headline, but no, Tom Cruise isn't on life support after falling off of an airplane/world's tallest building/helicopter or what-have-you. Accidents happen on sets all the time. Harrison Ford's foot was broken by the set of the Millennium Falcon while shooting Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Jeremy Renner recently broke both of his arms on the set of Tag. And now, it appears Tom Cruise has hurt his leg while shooting Mission: Impossible 6.
Deadline reports that in a video obtained by TMZ, Cruise doesn't quite make a jump and slams into the side of a building. He failed to leap from a rigging onto a building landing, causing the mishap. Cruise pulls himself up onto the building roof, but appears shaken, and afterward has a visible limp.

Lieutenant Provenza could easily become a one-note joke of a character.
He's always complaining, making wisecracks, and trying to prove that the case really belongs to some other unit.
It would be easy to forget that beneath that crusty exterior, there's a sensitive human being who went into police work for the right reasons.
Luckily, Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 19 gave Provenza a meaty, dramatic storyline that left no doubt in viewers' minds that Provenza is more than all of his grumbling.
Throughout the hour, Provenza questioned whether he should remain on the police force or not. He was especially bothered by this case because the victim seemed to lead a charmed life and it was hard to find any plausible reason to kill him.
He hid his pain underneath his usual crabbiness, of course. At Sharon and Andy's, he groused endlessly about the cake and only Rusty seemed to pick...

From the looks of this exclusive sneak peek of Lethal Weapon‘s holiday episode, Riggs is getting a slightly early, very nasty Christmas present.

It took fifteen years of perseverance—acquiring the rights, losing them, and reacquiring them at the behest of screenwriter Jane Goldman stoking the fire—but producer Stephen Woolley finally got Peter Ackroyd‘s 1994 novel on the big screen as The Limehouse Golem. There were some big names attached from Merchant Ivory originating plans to Woolley hoping for Neil Jordan years before developing it with Terry Gilliam. Don’t let this taint your opinion when peering upon Juan Carlos Medina‘s name on the director’s chair, though. Despite being only his sophomore feature, there’s a lot to like as he imbues the proceedings with a nightmarish air of mystery and suspense. It’s a dark Sherlock Holmes-esque case bolstered by a heartfelt desire for justice exactly when it appears impossible to find.

The abbies were just peaceful creatures minding their own business before Pilcher came along and opened fire.
He's gone now, but the mess he left behind is not going away.
The whole town was in panic mode on Wayward Pines Season 2 Episode 8 after Margaret escaped her captivity.
It's interesting how important this one abbie is. She has a lot of pull. Do they believe in democracy? Did they elect her? Is she a dictator?
All we know is that mark on her hand means something. Maybe it's a monarchy and that's equivalent to royal blood.
Regardless, her escape led to the town taking cover and locking themselves indoors. Except for Frank and Lucy that is, who thought it might be fun to take a stroll across town to find Rebecca.
That was probably not the smartest idea. Children who want to be helpful usually just wind up being liabilities. Nothing actually came of it though,...

Accidents happen, as the saying goes, and although we’d like to think of our favourite gaming studios as messianic conjurers of code who just pulled grade-a ideas out their collective rumps one after the other – sometimes such things just land in their laps instead.
Let’s take a step back though – what makes good game design? Is it Call of Duty or Battlefield’s hands-off approach that guides you through a number of set-pieces all with essentially everyone experiencing the same thing? How about Metal Gear Solid V, GTA V or Red Dead Redemption, who give you a handful of narrative setups, but ask you to figure out how to complete them?
There’s even the Uncharted series who’ll design an extended physics-based level (like a train thundering down the track, or a collapsing building) whilst retaining your control to navigate the whole thing in real time.

Also, the Case of the Week was pretty well-crafted.

Not that Dancing With the Stars‘ title really needs to be longer — but after the powerhouse performances delivered on Monday’s installment, may we suggest that Season 20 be known as Dancing With the Stars: The Comeback Kids?
Following a season premiere that left much to be desired from the celebs on the dance floor, Week 2 found even the lowest-scoring couples making an excellent case for why they should walk away with this year’s Mirrorball trophy.

Professional wrestling is often derided as being the red-headed stepchild to its sports and entertainment parents. While wrestling is undoubtedly meant to be a show, the performers in the ring are constantly putting themselves at risk for our entertainment. It’s been stressed on numerous occasions that anything can go wrong inside a wrestling ring at any time. Minor injuries are commonplace, but drastic, life-altering mishaps are rare.
However, every once in a while, a wrestler will face an incredibly severe injury or life-threatening situation thanks to their chosen career. Accidents happen in any profession, and when that line of work includes throwing another person around or diving from great heights, bad things will occasionally take place. Everyday pain and sporadic injuries are one thing, but tragic accidents and disasters are another.
Unfortunately, there is little that one can do to protect themselves from these horrendous accidents. After all,...

Davis, who at last blush was vying to shoot arrows for her country as an Olympics archer, won her Oscar for The Accidental Tourist, and her other credits include Thelma And Louise, A League Of Their Own, Beetlejuice, The Fly and Stuart Little. Things went awry with Cutthroat Island and Long Kiss Goodnight, though the latter was a pretty darn good B-movie from a $4 million Shane Black script. Sebastian Coe also salutes James Bond stunt double from 2012 opening ceremony, who died in wing-diving accident
Sebastian Coe and Danny Boyle led tributes to Mark Sutton, the stuntman who was James Bond's stunt-double in the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, who died in a wing-diving accident.
Swiss police were investigating how the experienced 42-year-old wing suit flyer was killed on Wednesday, after jumping from a helicopter wearing aerodynamic equipment and hitting a mountain ridge at high speed.

Mark Sutton, 42, was killed on Wednesday when he hit a mountain ridge, after jumping from a helicopter in the aerodynamic suit, a preliminary investigation by police has indicated.
His friend Gary Connery, who doubled for the Queen and jumped with Daniel Craig's substitute into the Olympic stadium, told the Sun that Sutton had been smart, articulate and funny.

Accidents happen. It’s what we tell ourselves every time something bad occurs. Hey, accidents happen. In any situation, we put ourselves at risk for injury and death. Just getting into our cars to go to the grocery store exposes our fleshy bodies to the fact that death is all around us. We can catch an infection, get into car accidents, release a blood clot in our legs, or a piece of space debris can fall out of the sky and kill us instantly. Anything can happen to us at any time.
Movie sets are no different. There is this idea implanted into our heads when we see movies that everything is fake, no one is really dead, and it helps us enjoy the movie more. However, when we hear that a cast member or crew member has died in an accident on the set, we are shocked and appalled...
