Wow this was bad. I'm surprised that Seagal still bothers to put out useless crap like this (although I'm not even sure of that). I honestly don't know what the point of this film is. All Seagal does is sit in poorly lit rooms (with sunglasses) and whisper incomprehensively whilst smoking fat cigars, oh and he puts on a weird Southern accent too. His total screentime whilst standing up adds up to less than a minute, including a 15 second fight scene and a hilariously bad shooting scene. I don't know if he's trying to hide his obvious weight gain, lacking the energy to stand or just being lazy, but at this point Seagal isn't even 'bad in a funny way' to watch. At least Kill Switch was genuinly hilarious to watch.
Everything else about this film is just generic and forgettable, there is nothing here you haven't seen before in better movies.

The answer is no... they would've done a better job. Two writers - amateur Johnny Martin Walters in his first ever writing credit, I can cut some slack, but there is no excuse for seasoned writer Chad Law to allow such an atrociously dialogued screenplay make it to the cameras. Then there was the plot-hole riddled convoluted and infantile story. There was more smoking cigarettes and cigars than action, you'd think this film was financed by Marlboro.
Casting Seagal is what you'd expect in his performance, only less and less action from him the more films he's in. I really wish he'd stop that annoying whispered dialogue thinking it makes him more "hey boss" mobster-ish. And enough with the hair color and hair plugs already, it's getting hard to take him serious anymore. All other casting and performances were decent, with Johnny Messner being the stand-out.
Directing by James Cullen Bressack was adequate, some decent camera work, but also bad choppy action {of what little there was} scenes. Cinematography was decent, and the score bearable - it was annoying, out of place and overbearing in some parts of the film.
Even if you're a fan of Seagals, don't expect to see him much in this film, let alone any more than 1 min total of him in action. The rest of the film he's drinking, smoking stogies, and whispering. It's a generous 4/10 from me.

Good script. Johnny is a decent/good actor. He carries the movie as far as it can go with Steven also in the film. The movie is good, until Segal comes onscreen. And after he disappears, it gets good again. They could probably cut the Segal scenes and it would be a good watch. Even DMX (RIP) is decent.
I laugh evert time Segal is onscreen, as his acting in this film is bad. Lets face it; his acting has been bad for awhile now.

Seagal has been coasting on fumes for a while, but this is cheap and shoddy, even by his rapidly declining standards. He's not even the star of this revenge tale; his role - such as it is - is tangential, and his contributions to the "action" is even less than his poorly-delivered dialog. And for new achievements in cost-cutting, several of the fatal shootings are heard, but not seen. As little as they obviously spent on the script, you'd think they had a few bucks to spend on squibs, so we'd at least see some blood on the bodies. This flick deserves all the lack of revenue the budget people must have expected.

The line from Detective Munce just about sums it up: "Gremlins... it's a f$@!ing film. Watch it, it's a classic!"
So true, a classic. Unlike this film.

First, Steven Seagal has gotten fat. He does not look healthy--much less fit. This movie is dark...in more ways than one. Not only is it done in gritty inner-city areas but its subject and characters are almost all negative creatures of darkness. Seagal appears in only one fight scene--if you can call it that. He whispers, which is hard to hear and irritating. He has this vague Southern accent, which seems put-on. Worse still, he isn't the hero. I've been a fan of Seagal for many years, and have a collection of perhaps all of his videos. This one may well be the last.
Should one expect good acting from a sub B movie? Perhaps not. How about an actual plot that isn't a rehash of every other revenge film? How about Mr Seagal without that fake New Orleans accent?

Poor filming, poor directing, poor acting, poor fight choreography, poor script, poor continuity, poor character development, poor concept. I used to be a Seagal fan, but I am finally realizing he has nothing left in the tank. Was hoping for at least a watchable and somewhat entertaining film. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met in either case.
I love a train wreck and like all Segal's movies? It's one massive train wreck of biblical proportion.
His days of making an actual movie that won't make you vomit in laughter is over... Like his gut hanging over his belt.
Watch this movie if you need a good laugh... Like watching Reefer Madness. Then again you have to be really high to even watch this for 15 minutes

I didn't know what to expect when I started watching Beyond the law but I have to say it was very entertaining and filled with good guy/bad cop action packed scenes throughout. Not a great movie but very good overall! Glad to see Dmx back with Mr.Seagal again.
8/10

Being a Steven Seagal fan, i was hoping for some fight scènes. The main character in the movie is Johnny Messner and he delivered some Nice action scènes. The acting is decent, story is decent too. Steven Seagal had only one short fight at the end. Overall i m a little disappointed. I really enjoyed Attrition from last year, Seagal kicker ass in Attrition. Really hope to see more action moviesfrom Steven Seagal, like Attrition.. 6 out of 10.

Don't waste your time, Seagal is so overweight he can hardly walk.
The film is -
That poor I didn't make it until the end of film, 1st 45mins was so painful.

I am generally a positive person.
And I know this will piss off the Seagal purists.
But at least I own my opinion.
I should start by saying this in is in "NO WAY" a retalliation for those infamous hateful interviews Mr. Steven Seagal gave concerning fellow action stars, especially Jean Claude Van Damme.
I just find a majority (Maybe all) of Mr. Seagals movies very two dimensional, unexciting and unbelievable.
And yes, that would be the bad version of unbelievable.
Mr. Seagal just doesn't know how to act.
My interpretation to make a decent movie... to have your audience believe in you, your charcter has to have some depth.
Would I be wrong in suggesting Mr. Seagal's whispering tough guy may know how to kick some Aikido ass but simply fails to deliver on the silver screen.
I don't care if he turns up on my doorstep tomorrow waving his slappy hands around.
I wont be sitting through another epic length tirade of raspy monotones.
I really don't think he's delivered since Nico, Above the law.
And I will say happily, "I enjoyed that movie".
Character vs. Character...
Eg. Seagal vs Van Damme...
At least Van Damme has some semblance of afore mentioned character depth.
I mean, all being said, these flicks are all about kicking ass, right?
And if there was any other slight on Mr. Seagals version of talent, "doesn't EVERY action star who is worth anything cinematically end up in an Expendables film"?
And after three of those extremely enjoyable kickass pictures, I don't recall seeing his name in any of the credits.
Oh yeah, So this is meant to be about this movie specifically, yes?
You saw the last one didn't you?
Again, if he's knocking on my door tomorrow, I feel safe as I have a "no salesman" sticker on it
REMEMBER, this is my opinion!
I wont be chasing down Mr. Seagals autograph anytime soon.

Yet another movie with horrible acting, a terrible script and a nonsensical storyline that should be straight forward. The movie simply juzt drags on. . Give this title a hard pass.

I was actually looking forward to watching this movie as a cheap action flick, was hoping for something that didn't test the brain cells too much but was still good fun.
Unfortunately this film was so dull I struggled to get past 30 mins as it felt like I had been watching it for hours. All three lead actors are appalling, DMX looks tired, Messner couldn't act anyway, and Seagal spends his entire time smoking cigars badly. Please don't waste your time on this film

I don't understand all the negative reviews here.. This is a solidly made revenge tale.. It isn't really a Seagal film, hes just in the supporting cast, but its a nice ensemble of players who are all giving good performances..
It has a slick DTV style, is visually coherent .. Though there are a couple of crazy special FX early shots on that are pretty poor, but they don't really effect the enjoyment of the film.
Theres even a few nice action scenes, one in particular at a cabin.
Seagal is good in this, hes in that period of work where he has a Southern accent.. I just wish there was more of him in this film.. Probably something people say about a lot of his recent work.. But its so undeniably solid, I hope Seagal continues to work with this team as a lead actor. They could make a hit for sure.

Every Seagal movie in the past 10 years is the same. He wears a horrible toupee, is fat and moves slower than molasses. The only redeeming quality of the movie was Johnny Messner, and at times, his acting was overblown.
