Today, Apple TV+ debuted the trailer for Midnight Family, the 10-episode Spanish-language medical drama hailing from showrunner and director Natalia Beristáin, and created for television by Julio Rojas and Ariel Award winner Gibrán Portela.

The hour-long series will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with two episodes on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, followed by one new episode every Wednesday through November 20, 2024.

Midnight Family features an entirely Hispanic cast and crew led by Ariel Award winner Joaquín Cosío (Narcos: Mexico), Renata Vaca (Dale Gas), and Diego Calva (Babylon), and introduces Sergio Bautista.

The series also features the special participation of Goya Award winner Óscar Jaenada (Hernán), José María de Tavira (El Candidato), Itzan Escamilla (Élite), Mariana Gómez (The Queen of Flow), Dolores Heredia (Capadocia) and special guest, Academy Award nominee Yalitza Aparicio (Roma).

The 49th edition of Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival, Spain’s largest confab for films from Latin America, Spain and Portugal, will honor Mexican star Cecilia Suárez with its City of Huelva Award.

With leading roles in Netflix’s “The House of Flowers” and HBO Latin America’s “Capadocia,” Suárez has also be seen in ABC’s drama “The Promised Land” and has worked on films by as Tommy Lee Jones (“The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada”), James L. Brooks (“Spanglish”), Ernesto Contreras (“Párpados azules”), Antonio Serrano and Fernando Colomo (“Cuidado con lo que deseas”).

XYZ Films has acquired writer-director Michelle Garza Cervera’s hotly anticipated breakout feature “Huesera” for theatrical release in North America and has released the first teaser and poster for the film.

“Huesera” is one of the first slate of titles under its new distribution arm and an early pick-up ahead of the Tribeca Film Festival, where the film will world premiere.

The film follows Valeria, whose joy with becoming pregnant dissolves as she is cursed by a dark power. As danger surrounds her, she’s forced deeper into the occult, and a pact with a coven of witches may be her only hope. Valeria is played by Natalia Solián (“500 Millions of Red Shoes”), alongside Alfonso Dosal (“Narcos: Mexico”), Mayra Batalla (“Prayers for the Stolen”), Mercedes Hernández (“Identifying Features”), Aída López (“Capadocia”), and Martha Claudia Moreno.

The film is produced by Machete, Disruptiva Films, and Señor Z and is co-written by Garza Cervera and Abia Castillo.

Cecilia Suárez and Augusto Aguilera have joined the ABC drama pilot “Promised Land,” Variety has learned.

The show is described as an epic, generation-spanning drama about two Latinx families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley. The pair joins previously announced cast members John Ortiz, Christina Ochoa and Mariel Molino.

Suárez will star as Lettie Sandoval, the matriarch of the Sandoval family, a wealthy vineyard-owning family in the Sonoma Valley. Lettie will do anything to keep her family, with all its fraying allegiances, intact. She is proud of the fortune the Sandovals have built, but the arrival of a figure from Lettie’s past soon causes her to question whether the cost of achieving the American Dream is too high.

HBO Latin America veterans Luis S. Peraza, president of networks, and Roberto Rios, corporate vice president of original production, will depart at the end of February, WarnerMedia Latin America announced Thursday.

Peraza is part of the founding team that launched HBO in Latin America in 1991 and is a pioneer of the local audiovisual industry. He was responsible for development of the first premium local content in the market, investing in original programming and discovering new talent.

Original content overseen by Peraza includes “Epitafios,” “Mandrake,” International Emmy winner “Sr. Avila,” International Emmy nominees “Sons of Carnival,” “Capadocia,” “Profugos,” “Psy,” and “The Bronze Garden,” as well as hundreds of hours of series, movies, documentaries and animation specials that were broadcast in Latin America and the rest of the world.

HBO Latin America has greenlit a second season of Argentine thriller series “The Bronze Garden” (“El Jardin de Bronce”), which has aired across 50 HBO international markets, including HBO Spain and HBO Nordic.

The eight-episode thriller centered on an architect in desperate search for his four-year-old daughter who vanished with her babysitter in a Buenos Aires subway. He is aided by a brilliant, if unconventional, private detective.

Co-produced with leading Argentine production company Pol-ka, the second season is based on a new set of scripts by Gustavo Malajovich, author of the eponymous bestseller which inspired the first season, and scribe Marcos Osorio Vidal.

Production kicks off in Buenos Aires in August. Joaquin Furriel reprises his role as the architect who in this new season helps resolve a case that had gone cold. Hernán Goldfrid and Pablo Fendrik direct the series once more.
