Does any major network do wacky show titles as well as CBS? I don't think so. It's the home of such creatively, chaotically named shows as "Jake and the Fatman," "Gary Unmarried," "Joan of Arcadia," "United States of Al," "Syzyszynk," and -- my personal favorite, name-wise -- "God Friended Me." The network's wacky titles go all the way back to TV's golden age, but their schedule still features several weirdly named shows today. Without giving each of them a watch, it's hard to tell your "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage" from your "Bob Hearts Abishola," but one unusually named show made its mark recently with a short but loved two-season run: "So Help Me Todd."
The name of "So Help Me Todd" gives few hints about the show's premise, but it was actually about a flailing private detective ("Pitch Perfect...

Some cancellations always hurt more than others. It’s usually because they end abruptly, and that was certainly the case for three out of the six CBS shows canceled in 2024.
Three of the shows at least got endings to give us chance to say goodbye to the shows. Then there was another technically canceled show, but CBS opted to reverse the decision. Yes, we’re talking about Swat, and there were certainly other shows on the network that deserved the same.
We’re taking a look back at each of the cancellations of 2024 across the broadcast networks. We start with CBS because honestly I’m still the most salty about one cancellation in particular.

2024 was a rough year to be a CBS fan. While CBS is typically one of the networks with the best renewal rates, the network was forced to make a lot of difficult decisions this year which led to the cancellations of many amazing series including some of the network’s biggest shows.
In total, seven CBS shows were given the boot in 2024 which was up a bit from the total number of shows canceled by CBS the year before in 2023. Of course, of the seven shows canceled only six actually came to an end with CBS deciding to reverse its decision on Swat which was set to end with its seventh season but ended up getting a surprise renewal at the final hour ensuring the show continued into the 2024-25 season with season 8.

Last Friday, there was a lot of focus on reruns and holiday programming. It’s time to get back to somewhat normalcy in the TV schedule tonight, Friday, Dec. 6.
We are hitting the winter period. A lot of shows are taking time off, and Fridays are already a quiet night across most networks. The good news is that CBS is back to normal with its schedule, and we have plenty of comedy to check out on The CW. If you’re into sports, the Big 5 networks also have you covered. Get ready for a great night of TV.
Blue Bloods, Bob Hearts Abishola, and more
Friday nights are all about CBS dramas. These shows are what we mostly tune into TV on a Friday for, right? Well, after taking Black Friday off, the shows are back on. We have two more episodes of all three shows—and two episodes left of all of Blue Bloods.

“NCIS: Origins” and “Poppa’s House” just got a boost of confidence with full season orders at CBS. The “NCIS” prequel spinoff and the Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.-led sitcom, which both air Monday nights, have upped their first seasons from 13 to 18 episodes each.
The order stems from strong viewership for the premieres of both new shows. “NCIS: Origins” Episode 1 has been seen by 9 million viewers, while “Poppa’s House” has garnered 6.41 million viewers, according to VideoAmp and internal streaming data. On streaming via Paramount+ and CBS Tve (CBS.com and the CBS app), the network says both shows posted significant gains from their counterparts last season — “Origins” was up 54% from “NCIS: Hawai’i,” while “Poppa’s House” was up 137% from “Bob Hearts Abishola.”

CBS' fun legal sitcom So Help Me Todd was canceled after just two seasons, leading fans to wonder why. The show starred Skylar Astin as the titular Todd, and Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret, Todd's mother and a high-powered attorney. Todd is bright but a slacker, and he reluctantly agrees to work at his mother's law firm as an in-house private investigator. Thanks to the premise, So Help Me Todd earned praise for being just as much a family drama as it was a legal comedy.
Unfortunately, So Help Me Todd season 3 won't be happening as CBS pulled the plug on the well-received show after just two seasons. The news, announced in April, came as a shock to fans, who didn't expect So Help Me Todd to be canceled so soon or at all. Bob Hearts Abishola season 6 is not confirmed, as season 5 was announced as the series finale. 11 main Bob Hearts Abishola main cast members were downgraded to recurring in season 5, which didn't bode well for the sitcom's future. Co-creator Gina Yashere believes the cancelation speaks to TV studios' lack of commitment to diverse productions.
Bob Hearts Abishola season 6 is the hoped-for continuation of the CBS sitcom that finished its fifth season on May 6, 2024. The cult classic 1976 Universal Pictures film Car Wash is getting the small-screen treatment from producer Malcolm D. Lee (“The Best Man” franchise) and writer Opey Olagbaju. A comedy series of the same name is in development at NBC from Universal Television.
Set at a modern-day DC car wash, the TV series focuses on an immigrant family’s generational and cultural clashes between father and son and their eclectic group of employees.
The logline reveals many similarities to the original film while using the TV format to make the story much bigger. The Michael Schultz-directed film follows the lives of a group of friends from Los Angeles who work at the Dee-Luxe Car Wash and the interesting characters they interact with one Friday in July.

Exclusive: More ensemble drama series are reducing the number of episodes cast members are in as a way to save money. The series regulars on CBS’ FBI and FBI: Most Wanted will have their minimum guarantees trimmed by 2 episodes next season, Deadline has learned. The third FBI series, FBI: International, is not impacted, I hear. Reps for FBI producers Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television declined comment.
As Deadline reported exclusively this week, veteran cast members on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy also are getting their episodes cut next season by 3-4 in a cost-saving measure.
The move for the two FBI series mirrors the episodic guarantees reductions applied to Wolf/Uni TV’s Chicago and Law & Order dramas a year ago. The timing makes sense as such talent cost-cutting usually follows a renewal that nowadays comes with a flat or reduced license fee.

Exclusive: Jake Borelli will be departing ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy after seven years on the show, including being a series regular for the past five seasons, Deadline has learned. According to sources, Borelli is in negotiations to return next season for several episodes to wrap up the story of his character, Levi Schmitt.
Amid overall decline in linear ratings, it has become common practice for broadcast networks to ask for financial concessions on long-running series, which naturally become pricier as they age. As a high-end drama series headed into its 21st season with a large cast, most of whom have been on the show for years, Grey’s is expensive. I hear its renewal — like many other broadcast shows’ these days — came with a budget cut.

The end of the TV season is always heartbreaking.
Not only do our favorites wrap up for the season, but some shows end forever. And the 2024 season is one of the worst ever.
There are at least seven series ending that we don't want to say goodbye to, but the finales are coming up fast.
The 2024 season was more heartbreaking than most. The season was truncated because of the WGA writers' and Sga-aftra actors' strikes.
Many beloved shows had short seasons of 10-13 episodes, and some with even fewer new shows. There have been long hiatuses that seemed to begin almost as soon as shows finally started airing. Worst of all, many series cancelations were announced just as shows began airing.
There was a bloodbath over at many networks, but CBS had the highest number of casualties, with five of the seven shows we're most heartbroken about leaving that network.

“The Equalizer” has been renewed for Season 5 at CBS, Variety has learned.
“’The Equalizer,’ led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”
With the renewal, the only current CBS series awaiting word of its fate is “NCIS: Hawai’i.” The network has renewed much of its scripted lineup already, including recent pickups for “Elsbeth” and the “FBI” franchise. CBS recently announced it was canceling both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas,” while shows like “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “Blue Bloods” and “Young Sheldon” are coming to an end.
Per CBS, “The Equalizer” is currently averaging over 10 million viewers per episode in Live+35 multiplatform viewing. The show is based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name.

But Kelly Ripa continued with the topic, prompting that Gardell has been on a health journey for a while. He confirmed as such as he said, “Yeah, like the last three years.
