How do you get The Roku Channel to compete with the likes of Pluto TV? Maybe you buy Pluto TV. And Paramount+. Hell, buy the whole company while you’re at it.
The Wall Street Journal on Thursday reported that Seagram’s heir Edgar Bronfman Jr., the chairman of Fubo, has not yet given up on acquiring control of Paramount Global. And he’s recruiting: In his ragtag group are Fortress Investment Group, “Baby Geniuses” producer Steven Paul, and Roku, the number 1 manufacturer of streaming devices.
Wait, Roku — where did you come from?
A combination could make some sense here. For starters, Paramount+ is available on Roku platforms already. And they’re probably already hanging out at the Walton Family Christmas parties: Both Paramount and Roku have deals with Walmart. Ad-supported Paramount+ is included with a Walmart+ membership, while Roku is the operating system in Walmart’s own branded TVs.

American Pie is one of those cult classic movies that anyone who grew up in the 1990s has probably seen — many times. It was known for its humor and certainly catered to a more adult audience, but it was loaded with characters that nobody could ever forget.
While it’s been nearly 25 years since the movie was released, some of the actors have remained household names. Where is the American Pie cast today?
The ‘American Pie’ cast in 2012 | Kevin Winter/Getty Images Where is Jason Biggs today?
Jason Biggs was the film’s main star, and he went on to act in movies far beyond American Pie. There have been plenty of film sequels, and he starred in the first four movies, up until 2012. He appeared in films including Eight Below and My Best Friend’s Girl, the latter of which is where he met his now-wife, Jenny Mollen. Today, Biggs is worth about $20 million,...

Now, she has an 8-month-old of her own. She and Tyler have an unbreakable bond and find each other hilarious. Fox has renewed its Tom Payne- and Michael Sheen-led drama “Prodigal Son” for Season 2 to air during the 2020-2021 season, the network announced Thursday.
Created by Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver, the psychological thriller follows Malcolm Bright (Payne), a psychologist who has a gift for understanding how serial killers think, because his father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Sheen) was one of the worst, a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon,” per Fox’s description. Bright is the best criminal psychologist around and murder is the family business. He uses his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes for his longtime mentor, NYPD detective Girl Arroyo (Lou Diamond Phillips), all while dealing with his manipulative mother, Jessica Whitly (Bellamy Young), his seemingly normal sister, Ainsley Whitly (Halston Sage) and a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son. Fox has opted not to proceed with a second season of its freshman multi-cam family comedy Outmatched.
The move, which was fully expected, leaves Prodigal Son as the only Fox series formally on the bubble. That drama, starring Michael Sheen, is getting renewed, contingent on finalizing deals and locking in Sheen’s schedule.
Outmatched, the only new live-action comedy introduced by Fox this season, never quite registered creatively or ratings-wise, but Fox brass love the two leads, Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, and may try to get them for other network shows, I hear.
2019-20 TV Cancellations And Renewals For Broadcast, Cable & Streaming
From writer/executive producer Lon Zimmet (La to Vegas), Outmatched harkened back to one of Fox’s signature comedy series, Malcolm In the Middle. It centered on a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to raise four kids – three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.

Fox has canceled the multi-cam comedy “Outmatched” after one season.
The news comes on the same day the network announced that it had renewed both “Last Man Standing” and “The Resident.” With the cancellation, the only Fox show awaiting word on its fate for next year is the freshman drama “Prodigal Son,” which sources say is likely to return.
“Outmatched” joins fellow canceled freshman Fox series “Deputy” and “Almost Family.” The network previously renewed freshman animated comedies “Bless The Harts” and “Duncanville” and the freshman drama “9-1-1: Lonestar.”

Fox has canceled the multi-camera comedy “Outmatched” after one season, TheWrap has learned.
“Outmatched” was one of a handful of shows absent from Fox’s schedule for the 2020-21 season when the network announced it last week. “Last Man Standing” and the medical drama “The Resident” have since been picked up for new seasons, leaving the freshman drama “Prodigal Son” as the only scripted series still awaiting a decision from the network.
The cancellation leaves Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” and midseason entry “Call Me Kat” as the network’s only two live-action comedies currently on the slate for next season.

Fox has officially renewed two more series for next season, flagship comedy Last Man Standing, headlined by Tim Allen, and medical drama The Resident, starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp. Both come from 20th Century Fox TV and both had been a lock to come back.
The pickups leave freshmen Prodigal Son and Outmatched as the only remaining Fox scripted series yet to hear their fate. As we reported, drama Prodigal Son’s renewal is being finalized while comedy Outmatched is not expected to continue.
Last Man Standing and The Resident will join the rest of Fox’s returning live-action series on the bench of midseason. Because of the uncertainty surrounding the timing of Hollywood’s production reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic, Fox’s fall schedule only features scripted series that are either already in the can or are animated, as animation has not been significantly impacted by the pandemic.

It's a good day for fans of The Resident.
According to TuSubtitulo, the Fox drama has officially been renewed for a fourth season.
The news is unsurprising, especially when you consider that The Resident Season 3 averaged 4 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in live + same day ratings.
This is down around 20 percent from The Resident Season 2's results, but the numbers are still strong for Fox.
We also need to remember that the series was moved from Mondays to Tuesdays this season, so some erosion was to be expected.
Helping matters is that The Resident Season 3 went out with season highs of 6.8 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in live + 3 figures.
The series may have lost some ground in linear ratings, but it remains a resounding success on digital platforms.
The Resident focuses on the lives and duties of staff members at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, while delving into the bureaucratic practices of the hospital industry.

Fox is pressing on with its plans for the fall, despite the Covid-19 lockdown showing no signs of slowing down.
As expected, the line-up consists of a lot of unscripted content because there will be a severe shortage of scripted content in the fall.
To help ease matters, the network is drafting in L.A.'s Finest, starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union to its fall schedule.
The series was previously in the works at NBC, but the network did not give it a series commitment.
Spectrum stepped in to air it last year in a co-production deal, and Season 2 is slated to launch on Spectrum this year.
Here is our spoiler-free review of the series.
Fox has picked up both seasons.
This is a big deal for the series, allowing the network to promote it as a new show, and making it more viable to Spectrum in the hopes that people seek it out.

Fox may not be giving its usual upfront presentation to advertisers this year, but the network still set its fall slate right on schedule. On Monday — the day it would have held its upfront, if not for the coronavirus — the network unveiled a fall 2020 schedule which includes a pair of new dramas starring John Slattery and Kim Cattrall and returning hits like “The Masked Singer.”
But what that slate is missing is “9-1-1” and other staple series that are either moving to midseason or still awaiting decision amid the pandemic.
The network is filling the holes left by those shows with Slattery’s “neXt” and Cattrall’s “Filthy Rich” (dramas that wrapped production before the shutdowns) as well as broadcasts of “Cosmos: Possible Worlds,” which first premiered on Nat Geo, and Season 1 of Spectrum’s “Bad Boys” spinoff series “L.A.’s Finest,” starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union.

In a normal year, TV executives would be working some serious late nights right about now, deciding the fall fates of existing primetime shows while weighing shiny new options in fully produced pilot form. This is not a normal year.
This spring, there are (pretty much) no pilots. Thanks to Covid-19, there are also no upfronts, the week when broadcasters hype up their returning and freshman series for potential advertisers. What there is instead is an opportunity for shows that might have been canceled any other year to give it (at least) one more go on network television.
Take Fox’s “Outmatched,” for one example. The Jason Biggs-led comedy has almost no buzz, averages a weak 0.8 rating among adults 18-49, including one week of delayed viewing, and has a 22% critics’ rating on RottenTomatoes. There is no reason “Outmatched” should have a chance at a second season — but it actually does.

Under normal circumstances, April TV ratings bring May cancellations and last-minute renewals, too. But in the “new normal” that the coronavirus pandemic has delivered us, there’s much more uncertainty about which broadcast shows will stay and which will go than in years past.
Mid-spring usually marks the time of year when at-risk series must sweat out their fates — sometimes right up until networks announce their fall schedules to advertisers at their upfront presentations in May. But those upfronts were canceled this year due to Covid-19 and we’ve yet to hear definitively if and when those “virtual” offerings that networks initially said they’d give in place of the glitzy in-person are happening.
Generally, top-performing shows from each broadcast network have already received their votes of confidence for another season, and the worst performers were snuffed out months ago. But then there are the bubble shows, programs that could...

During the regular 2018-19 season, Fox launched just four new scripted shows and cancelled them all. Was it due to the expectation of the big sale to Disney? How will the network do in the ratings in the 2019-20 season? How many of their TV shows will be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.
How do the execs decide what to cancel or keep? They look at a lot of different factors but the ratings play a very large role. The higher the ratings, the better the chances a show has of surviving.
Fox shows this season (so far): 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Almost Family, Bless The Harts, Bob's Burgers, Deputy, Duncanville, Empire, Family Guy, Flirty Dancing, Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back, Last Man Standing, Lego Masters, The Masked Singer, The Moodys, Outmatched, Prodigal Son, The Resident, and The Simpsons.Read More…...

Fox is asking Deputy to turn in its badge and gun: The Stephen Dorff-led freshman drama won’t return for a second season, TVLine has learned.
Deputy starred Dorff (fresh off an acclaimed turn on HBO’s True Detective) as Bill Hollister, a throwback lawman who finds himself named the new sheriff of Los Angeles County thanks to an arcane law in the county charter. Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) co-starred as Bill’s surgeon wife Paula, and Arrow alum Bex Taylor-Klaus was a standout as Bill’s deputy/driver Brianna Bishop. “Deputy” has been canceled after just one season at Fox, TheWrap has learned.
The Stephen Dorff-led police drama will not return for a second go at the network, with last month’s season finale now serving as the show’s final episode.
The series, which debuted in January as a midseason replacement, centered on Dorff’s Deputy Bill Hollister, a career lawman who becomes acting sheriff of Los Angeles County when the previous sheriff suddenly drops dead.

While the coronavirus pandemic has brought TV ratings highs across the board in Live+Same Day, the first Live+3 numbers to come out since millions of Americans have been forced to self-isolate don’t show much bigger gains than normal.
However, plenty of shows delivered much larger numbers than they have so far this season. Among the biggest winners for the week of March 16 were two alternative juggernauts in NBC’s “The Voice” and CBS’s “Survivor.” “The Voice” ended up with a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 after three days of delayed viewing, 24% higher than its L+3 average so far this season. Meanwhile “Survivor” fought its way to a 2.0 in delayed, an 18% bump from its average season 40 score to date.
In terms of total viewership, a good number of shows were way above their season averages, including “Chicago Fire” which led the week with 12 million total viewers, up from 10.9 million on average.
