Witchblade, the popular comic series that initially ran from 1995 to 2015 and launched a TV series, is getting resurrected in a new comic series from Top Cow and Image Comics. It’s set to unleash heavy metal, black magic and blood this summer.
Look for the new Witchblade series to launch on July 17, 2024.
In Witchblade #1, “New York City Police Detective Sara Pezzini’s life was forever fractured by her father’s murder. Cold, cunning, and hellbent on revenge, Sara now stalks a vicious criminal cabal beneath the city, where an ancient power collides and transforms her into something wild, magnificent, and beyond her darkest imaginings. How will Sara use this ancient power, or will she be consumed by it?”
The series is penned by Nyt Best-Selling writer Marguerite Bennett and visualized by artist Giuseppe Cafaro. The creative duo is working with original co-creator Marc Silvestri, who is the CEO of Top Cow Productions Inc.

Invincible is having a great run as an animated series, produced by Seth Rogen under Amazon Studios. The show recently wrapped up its second season, one that ended with a bang. However, there are a lot of things that had to change for the adaptation of the comic, specifically because of how many characters from other IPs it featured in its source material.
Invincible (2021-present)
While comics created under the Image Comics label are owned by their respective creators, the characters do share a world with other IPs, and often crossover with each other during major events. Given that an Invincible live-action film is in the works, it is completely possible that Invincible could kick off a shared Image Comics universe, that could bring to the screen a host of beloved characters.

The early nineties were arguably the heyday of brawny action. Arnold Schwarzenegger was the world’s biggest star, thanks to Total Recall and Terminator 2. Sylvester Stallone was just a little behind him with Cliffhanger and Demolition Man, but the lower-tier action stars were starting to catch up. Steven Seagal had a string of hits and was briefly about to hit the big time with Under Siege. At the same time, the Muscles from Brussels was finding his way into bigger studio fare and teamed up with arguably the greatest action director of all time for one of his best movies – Hard Target, which is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its release.
Jump back to 1991, when Jean-Claude Van Damme had two movies that broke through at the North American box office. First up, in January of that year, was Lionheart, which carried a low budget but made $22 million for Universal.

In the very early days of prestige television, a series appeared (some say it began the prestige era) that gave us a glimpse of what the future would hold. That series was "Rome," the story of the rise and fall of Julius Caesar (Ciarán Hinds) and the romance and death of Mark Antony (James Purefoy) and Cleopatra (Lyndsey Marshal). The series was gorgeous and full of rich historical detail, and the performances were spectacular.
The series, which ran from 2005-2007, came to us from John Milius, William J. MacDonald, and Bruno Heller. It nabbed talented actors like Hinds, Purefoy, Marshal, Lindsay Duncan, Polly Walker, Tobias Menzies, Kevin McKidd, and the late Ray Stevenson. It won a Director's Guild award, seven Primetime Emmy Awards, and quite a number of others.
The sets were stunning and actually existed in the world, in the historic Cinecittà Studios, right in Rome, from the Forum...

Everyone always says that, no matter your generation, watching “Star Wars” makes you feel like a 10-year-old again. But for the millennial generation, the experience of watching “The Matrix” brings us back to the age of 16 or 17, a fraught time of transition and expectation — and a time when we’re really eager to call out bullshit. The Wachowskis created a franchise that’s all about poking holes in inherited wisdom and celebrates embracing the truth, no matter how painful, over comforting falsehoods. And for a brief moment at the turn of the millennium it seemed like “The Matrix” might be the new “Star Wars.”
Who were we kidding?
Hollywood instead became a factory for sexless, bloodless blockbusters that collectively serve as a monument to our 10-year-old selves, and “The Matrix” franchise was largely forgotten. But even in that moment in 1999 when “The Matrix” outclassed “The Phantom Menace” in critical esteem and awards attention,...

The first issue of the Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor: Season 2 comic series will feature the return of old enemies and reunite the Doctor with one of her former selves.
After a year-long drought, Doctor Who fans can rejoice at the series finally returning to their television screens in January with an all-new season starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. We’re still years away from a potential crossover episode where Whittaker’s Doctor will get to interact with her former selves, but at least the new comic series by Titan Publishing Group will reunite her with David Tennant’s quirky Tenth Doctor in a story featuring the return of the Weeping Angels.
In fact, this tale takes place during the events of “Blink,” which was one of the most acclaimed episodes of the series’ modern run and introduced us to the menacing stone statues for the first time.

It’d be easy to think Everybody’s Everything, the painfully intimate documentary on the late Lil Peep, is a strictly-for-the-fans endeavor — that the only audience are the people who heard songs like “U Said” or “Crybaby” and felt like someone had mysteriously tapped into their own inner monologues. And yes, the die-hards will indeed find themselves giddy over the home movies, the behind-the-scenes peeks, the rise-and-fall of it all when they’re not tearing up. You wanna see footage of the groundbreaking emo-rapper getting the crowd jumping to “Beamer Boy” in Tucson,...

First thing to mention this time round is the distinct lack of the name Rachael Stott anywhere. In my review of the last issue I had just mentioned how it was nice to see a creative team stay intact for more than a handful of issues, but clearly the comics gods decided to punish my hubris. I know Rachael Stott is working for Marvel at the moment, so perhaps her absence is due to scheduling. Her (temporary?) replacement, Roberta Ingranata, I know from the Image comic Witchblade, and she seems a good fit for the book at least. Still, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so let’s take a bite…
If you recall last issue the Doctor and Fam pitched up in 1500′s Europe, in what is now Holland, during the historically important Guelder Wars.

Image Comics "Witchblade" #2, is written by Caitlin Kittredge and illustrated by Roberta Ingranata, with covers by Bryan Valenza and Rob Liefeld, available January 10, 2018:
"...in 'Life After' Part Two, struggling to adapt to her new life, 'Alex' finds she's the prime suspect in the death of an 'NYPD' detective--and that the dead cop had powerful and corrupt friends who will do anything to keep his business dealings quiet.
"But in the world of the 'Witchblade', nothing is quite what it seems, and Alex soon learns that there's more than greed at play inside the circle of corruption. The bent cops also have a supernatural backer and Alex has just landed in his crosshairs..."

Image Comics co-founder Marc Silvestri has been working on developing a Batman comic book for years and today we have some information on what that comic will entail. It sounds like it's gonna be pretty awesome!
The comic will be a six-issue miniseries for DC Comics that will focus on Batman teaming up and fighting alongside the Joker! All we know is that the iconic hero and villain will be fighting a villain together, we just don't know who that villain will be! What kind of villain would bring these two characters to form an alliance?
Silvestri, who is known for creating Witchblade and The Darkness, will write and draw the Batman comic. This isn't the first time he's worked on a Batman comic, either. He previously worked on the Batman Black & White story.
Over the years that Silvestri has been working on the new comic, some art has been...

Image Comic's Witchblade is once again being adapted as a TV series. It's being produced by Sony Pictures Television and NBC Universal, and Cb confirmed that it will air on NBC.
According to the report, the new series will include "a police procedural element that makes sense given the fact that Sara Pezzini, the woman who wears the Witchblade, is a cop in the comics, as well." They go on to describe what we can expect to see in the series saying:
Homicide detective Sara Pezzini is on the hunt for an elusive serial killer. Pezzini must navigate the grisly streets and police politics of San Francisco’s Mission District—until one day the bracelet she has worn her entire life gives her supernatural insight into a crime she’s trying to solve. Her bracelet is the Witchblade, an amulet that has been worn by remarkable women throughout history, and Sara is next in line.

For four glorious years, David Chokachi played blonde hottie lifeguard Cody Madison on "Baywatch" -- famously donning those red shorts and not much else from 1995-1999. The actor romanced both Pam Anderson and Carmen Electra on the series, before starring on the short-lived cult TV series "Witchblade" and a surfing series for The N called "Beyond the Break." It's clear David's love of the waves carries over into his real life, as the 47-year-old star was spotted on the beach over the weekend hitting the surf. Sporting some Hurley surf gear, the father-of-one looked confident as ever (and still pretty damn hot) on his board in Malibu. Chokachi constantly shares beach pics on his Instagram page, including this shirtless shot on the sand. Not too shabby, right? The actor -- who also starred on the VH1 reality show "Confessions of a Teen Idol" in 2009 -- and wife Susan welcomed daughter...

Still a stud! Baywatch hunk David Chokachi, who played lifeguard Cody Madison on the beloved '90s series, stepped out in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, Jan. 28, still looking like quite the hottie. The actor, now 47, wore khakis and a form-fitting white T-shirt, which accentuated his pecs and defined tummy. Chokachi's sandy blonde hair also appeared to be intact for his outing. Chokachi portrayed Pamela Anderson's love interest Cody on the series from 1995 to 1999. He left the show after 88 episodes to star in TV series Witchblade [...]...

He’s the son of the CEO of the Yokonomo Corporation and the head of its North American division. The Yakuza forces capture Eric and Pam in mid-rampage and deliver them to Gus Jr., who shares Eric’s vengeful hatred of Sarah Newlin; after all, by tainting the Tru Blood supply and creating the Hep-v epidemic, she bankrupted his company. The vampire and the businessman-gangster come to an agreement to share information and split the work: Eric, who knows that Sarah has an infected vampire sister living in Dallas, will kill her, and Mr. Gus will take the body. I would assume that, after a quick stop at the taxidermist, he’d have the corpse stuffed and mounted in the lobby of the Yokonomo corporate headquarters,...

With all the reboots, re-do’s and New 52’s, reader accessibility has been at an all-time high. While this is great for new readers, it is rare these days to see a series maintain its status quo. With issue #170 approaching, Witchblade is one of the few books still on shelves that has successfully carried the same story since 1996 with minimal interruption. While this is great for long term fans, some new readers out there will no doubt feel left in the cold. So why is this upcoming issue so important?
Witchblade #170 is celebrating the return of Ron Marz who wrote the series from issue 80 and up and is responsible for transitioning the series from its 90s roots into the modern era. Marz’s new arc, as well as the gorgeous cover done by Marc Silvestri, is already garnering some attention due to its very Marvel-eque homages. So for those of you who are interested,...

The Darkness movie adaptation will feature Witchblade.
Comics veteran Marc Silvestri explained the inclusion of the character in the upcoming movie at San Diego Comic-Con International.
"It just became more and more apparent as we were telling Jackie's story about The Darkness and the dark and light and how much they've intertwined over the years in the comic books," the Top Cow Productions CEO told MTV News.
"Jackie has that mob connection which we explore in the movie because it's an origin film. It makes sense to have a cop. And who do we know that's a cop in the Top Cow universe? Sara Pezzini, wielder of the Witchblade."
The film will centre around Jackie Estacado, the mafia hitman who inherits the deadly power called the Darkness from his father.
Total Recall director Len Wiseman will serve as a producer on The Darkness.

Great news for comic books fans this past weekend as a number of huge announcements were made at this year's San Diego Comic Con. On Friday, Marvel held a surprise screening of Joss Whedon's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot for those lucky enough to attend their panel. On Saturday, DC announced their plans for a Batman/Superman crossover movie, directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.
But that's not all! Lest we forget about all of the other comic book publishing companies out there, Top Cow revealed their plans to release a film based on "The Darkness" which, as they also revealed, will be featuring non-other than Sara Pezzini, a.k.a. Witchblade. This isn't the first time that Ms. Pezzini has made the crossover to film. In fact, not too long ago she was the star of her very own TV series!

We know better than to give away too much too soon. We’d rather keep you guessing, give your morbid imaginations time to work on your nerves a little. Get you softened up for the kill.
But we’re not total sadists. So we’re offering a scent, a flavour, of the sizzling, bloody steak,...

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

With Michael Berryman, Sully Erna and Nick Principe already in the cast of their upcoming film, you'd think producer Chad Verdi and Woodhaven Productions would rest on their laurels. But that's far from the case as the team has enlisted Tony Todd for their Army of the Damned.
"Tony Todd is a great actor and a horror legend," Verdi said. "He was the last piece of the puzzle that I felt this film needed to be the blockbuster I know it will be."
Todd will join Berryman, Erna and Principe along with entertainer Joey Fatone and former professional wrestlers Tommy Dreamer and Thea Trinidad as well as David Chokachi, Jackie Moore and Tom Paolino in the Army of the Damned cast. The film will be directed by Tom DeNucci and photographed by cinematographer Sam Eilertsen. You can keep updated on the project by 'liking' Army of the Damned on Facebook.
