Robert Downey Jr. & Marisa Tomei Had a Charming Connection (Photo Credit – Koimoi)
The ‘80s and ‘90s delivered rom-com gold— When Harry Met Sally…, Sleepless in Seattle, and Notting Hill. But don’t sleep on Only You (1994). Before Robert Downey Jr. was Iron Man and Marisa Tomei became Aunt May, they shared a charming on-screen romance that deserves a second look.
In Only You, we follow Faith (Tomei), a quirky believer in destiny, as she searches for her soulmate, Damon Bradley. But wait—what’s this? Faith gets the name Damon from an Ouija board as a teenager and later hears it from a fortune-teller. “My soulmate! My other half!” she declares, typical of a dramatic teen. Fast forward, and Faith finds herself engaged to a podiatrist named Dwayne. Boring, right?
Here comes the game-changer: while trying on her wedding dress, she receives a call from Damon Bradley. Surprise! He’s at the airport,...

Caribou, the electronic project from artist Dan Snaith, has confirmed a new album due out on October 4th, titled Honey. The album announcement is accompanied by the release of an upbeat single — stream “Come Find Me” below.
The follow-up to Caribou’s 2020 album, Suddenly, teases a new chapter for Snaith. “For his sixth Caribou album, Snaith now pulls himself away a little in search of music that isn’t about any one person and is available to everybody,” a statement reads. “Huge dancefloor tracks twinkle, shimmer, and surprise in a way only Snaith’s productions can, but with a freshness that defines an artist who is too excited by music-making to ever truly settle into any one sound.”

“Come Find Me” is, indeed, a contagious, upbeat invitation to the dance floor, and the playfully absurdist video for the song shows a dancer sporting an oversized image of Snaith’s face.

Constructing a soundtrack album is a gentle -- and perhaps lost -- art. This author is old enough to remember the 1990s heyday of movie soundtracks, when film producers would regularly license charting pop hits, obscure deep cuts, upcoming rappers, and underappreciated indie bands to construct carefully curated and meticulously produced albums that lived happily in your friends' cars all summer. There was a time when an unsuccessful film could recoup a lot of its theatrical losses with overwhelming soundtrack record sales. See: "Dead Man on Campus."
As the music industry collapsed in the early 2000s, however, soundtrack records fell out of favor. Movie songs became mere playlists, neither arranged on a CD in any cogent order nor lending themselves toward a general thematic thrust. We '90s teens can now whine (as is our wont) that soundtrack albums are, in the '20s, rarely more than "pile of neat songs.

Robert Downey Jr. still remains the biggest star of the MCU, although Hugh Jackman may have something to say about that when he eventually makes it to the mainstream. The actor who kicked it all off with 2008’s Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. has become synonymous with the character, and his demise in Avengers: Endgame was rued by fans all over the globe.

On the other hand, Marisa Tomei also deserves flowers for the work she has done in the MCU as Aunt May for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Meeting her death in 2021’s No Way Home, Tomei said goodbye to the franchise. But what many might not know is that she formerly dated Robert Downey Jr. briefly, which seems to have paid off more than two decades later.

In recent years, Kanye West has said numerous things that are offensive beyond belief. During West’s early career, he said something far less controversial — that he could not make an album better than The Beatles. He revealed what it would take for another band to outperform the Fab Four. The “I Love It” rapper explained what made him stand out from the competition.
Kanye West said Beatles albums had connected with people their whole lives
During a 2008 interview with MTV, West had the gall to criticize other artists for displaying too much bravado. “Whenever bands come out and say, ‘This album is better than The Beatles,’ it is impossible to make an album better than The Beatles unless you’ve got 30 years,” he explained. “Beatles records — people have known them their whole lives … hopefully five years from now people still play ‘Love Lockdown’ and people still play the records...

Born in Toronto, Canada, Norman Jewison was an assistant director when CBC Television debuted. He went on to write, direct, and produce a variety of programming for the young network over the next seven years before making the move to the U.S. His breakthrough movie was The Cincinnati Kid starring Steve McQueen. Oscar-nominated film director and producer Norman Jewison, who steered the 1967 racial drama “In the Heat of the Night” to a best picture Oscar and also helmed such popular films as “Moonstruck,” “The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming” and “The Thomas Crown Affair,” as well as film musicals “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Jesus Christ Superstar,” died Saturday at his Los Angeles residence. He was 97.
His film career began with fluffy Doris Day comedies like “The Thrill of It All.” But Jewison’s social conscience began to surface with “In the Heat of the Night” and, later, the labor union drama “F.I.S.T.” and other films focusing on racial tensions such as “A Soldier’s Story” and “The Landlord” (the latter of which he only produced), though he never abandoned comedies and romances.

A wide range of 2023 films had a song in their heart — and not just the outright musicals or films featuring musical numbers. A great needle drop can change or solidify a film’s tone, act as the cap on everything we’ve seen, or define a character better than any camera move, line of dialogue, or even performance can fully articulate.
This year we’ve had some great needle drops, from the films we expect to think obsessively about music — and these can range as widely as “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” to “Maestro;” from films that were delightful surprises built on musical swagger — it is criminal that we could only pick one song each from “Bottoms” and “Polite Society” because both films are filled wall-to-wall with bops; and from films that intentionally use music to hurt us and make us love them for it — a musical streak for...

We know what an American in Paris looks like, but an American in Italy…now that’s all the rage in recent years.
Italian costume designer Nicoletta Ercole, who was Emmy-nominated for her work on HBO film “My House in Umbria,” exclusively told IndieWire that the rise in Italy-set American productions have fumbled when capturing the romantic aesthetic of the nation. From “Mafia Mamma” to “The Book Club: The Next Chapter” to “Spin Me Round,” more and more American productions are opting to film in Italy. Now with Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” set to speed into theaters and the trendy second season of “The White Lotus” awaiting Emmy nominations, it’s proof that Italy is the country of the moment in stateside culture.

Marisa Tomei was more than reluctant to shed her locks for 1994 film “Only You.”
Tomei, who plays a hopeless romantic determined to find her soulmate, a man identified by her Ouija board when she was a teen, had a major fashion moment onscreen with a stylish bob haircut, starting a trend upon the film’s release in 1994. Robert Downey Jr., Bonnie Hunt, and Billy Zane co-star in the beloved rom-com.
Emmy-winning costume designer Nicoletta Ercole, who also worked on fellow Italy-set productions like “Letters to Juliet,” “Under the Tuscan Sun,” and “My House in Umbria,” recently told IndieWire that Tomei had to be convinced to change up her style.
“Marisa, at the beginning, she arrived right after she won [the Oscar] for ‘My Cousin Vinny.’ She had very long hair,” Ercole explained. “I said, ‘Why can’t you cut it? Like this, it’s normal. It’s nothing special.'”

Principal photography has wrapped in Spain’s La Rioja region on Isabel Coixet’s romantic drama “Un Amor,” a tale of obsessive passion that forces the film’s protagonist to reconsider the woman she thought she was. The 2023 Goya actress winner Laia Costa (“Lullaby”) stars opposite Hovik Keuchkerian (“Money Heist”); Film Constellation handles world sales. A sales promo will be unveiled for buyers in Cannes.
Based on the best-selling novel by Sara Mesa, selected by influential Spanish newspaper “El PaÍs” as Spain’s 2020 Book of the Year and translated into 13 languages internationally, “Un Amor” turns on Nat (Costa), 30, a translator who escapes the big city to start anew in the countryside.

The Bangles frontwoman Susanna Hoffs has announced a new album, a collection of covers called The Deep End. The project is out April 7th via Baroque Folk, while the first taste of the LP — a cover of The Rolling Stones’ 1966 track “Under My Thumb” — is available to stream now.
Produced by Peter Asher, The Deep End sees Hoffs tackle classics from the Stones, Squeeze, and Leslie Gore, as well as modern songs by artists like Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, and Brandy Clark. It arrives at the same time as The Bird Has Flown, the artist’s debut novel. Pre-orders for both the album and the book are ongoing.
While she admits to loving the Stones and “Under My Thumb” — “I’ve listened to that song on repeat since it came out in the mid-’60s,” she recalled in a statement — covering the track presented Hoffs with the opportunity to practice a little gender trouble.

Seth Meyers doesn’t often lament the departure of Donald Trump from the White House, but on Monday night, the “Late Night” host admitted that, just this once, he does miss the former president – only because he’s pretty sure Trump would definitely reveal the existence of aliens after Norad’s downing of several UFOs.
Following the demise of the suspected Chinese spy balloon on February 4, it was revealed that the US military shot down three more unidentified objects in US airspace the very next weekend. Little detail has been given about these objects, but when asked directly if extraterrestrial life had been ruled out in regards to these objects, the director of Norad admitted “I haven’t ruled out anything at this point.”

“The Daily Show” guest host Chelsea Handler was a bit floored on Thursday night after learning that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un might be grooming his daughter to succeed him — mostly because it would mean North Korea might end up with a female leader before the U.S. does.
To kick off her headlines segment, Handler brought up footage from CNN, showing Kim Jong-un and his daughter at a recent military parade. According to the report, the parade marked the fifth event that Kim’s daughter has been at since November, and she is the only one of his children ever to be shown in public.
As a result, many have begun speculating that Kim is possibly setting his daughter up to take over for him when the time eventually comes.

Just over a month after Rep. George Santos took office following his victory in the 2022 midterm election, his time in office has been embroiled in scandal as pieces of his background are exposed as lies — a scam that buried a compelling story, CBS News correspondent Caitlin Huey-Burns says.
“A couple of people that we talked to pointed out that the great irony in all of this is that he did have a compelling story to tell,” Huey-Burns told TheWrap while discussing CBS News’ upcoming documentary. “His mother worked really hard to support him and she was an immigrant … People are drawn to that kind of story of coming from nothing and making it to Congress. So why did he feel the need to make up all these other things, and not let voters decide what to think?”
“Campaign of Deceit: The Election of George Santos,” which premieres Tuesday at 8 p.

Updated with latest: President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address drew an estimated 27.3 million viewers, a drop of 29 from last year, according to Nielsen.
That figure is the lowest audience for a Sotu in at least 30 years, according to Nielsen records. Biden’s 2021 speech to a joint session of Congress drew 26.9 million, but that event, coming just a couple months into his presidency, was not an official State of the Union speech.
The Nielsen figures were measurements of 16 TV networks. Last year, 38.2 million watched across 16 networks.
Nielsen said that 59 watched broadcast network coverage and 41 watched cable coverage. Some 73 of viewers were 55 and older, with 19 aged 35-54 and 5 18-34.
According to updated data, Fox News topped coverage with an average of 4.69 million viewers, followed by ABC with 4.4 million, NBC with 3.8 million, CBS with 3.64 million, MSNBC with 3.6 million, CNN with 2.4 million and Fox Broadcasting with 1.66 million.

Tseng Ying-ting’s thriller opens with pyrotechnics lightning up the New Year Eve’s sky to Yazoo’s 1982 smash hit “Only You”, an uncharacteristically romantic environment for a suicide attempt. This sequence is the introduction into the movie’s key character, police officer Wu Jie (Janine Chun-Ning Chang) whose plans of ending it all are derailed when a teenager appears out of nowhere and starts banging on her window pleading for help. Her car is actually parked close to the popular gathering spot at the river bank, and Wu decides to get out and see what made the teenagers leave the place in panic. It is there she discovers a bloated corpse washed up on shore. Hit by the paradox of a dead person saving her life, Wu chooses to solve the case despite the anguish she is experiencing at work.

Roger Ebert once wrote, “just because something is not done anymore doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing,” when describing Norman Jewison’s irrepressible romantic comedy “Only You.” This same sentiment can be applied to Angus MacLachlan’s latest family dramedy, “A Little Prayer,” a welcome throwback to adult-oriented movie fare of yore like “On Golden Pond,” “Fried Green Tomatoes,” or “Passion Fish.

The race to be top of the British singles chart at Christmas has been an annual event every December since 1952.
On Friday 23, LadBaby broke a record they were previously tied for with The Beatles, achieving their fifth consecutive Christmas No 1.
The Beatles had been top of the tree since 1967 with a record four Christmas number ones, although that was equalled last year when LadBaby claimed their fourth win in four years with an offering called “Sausage Rolls for Everyone”.
LadBaby have now vaulted to the top with their fifth No 1, “Food Aid”.
The Spice Girls also notched an impressive three consecutive victories in the mid-Nineties, while Sir Cliff Richard also has a hat-trick to his name.
LadBaby, Aka Mark and Roxanne Hoyle, are actually having another crack at it in 2022, with the help of ever popular money-saving guru Martin Lewis, who, rather suprisingly, is joining them for a chairty cover...

Why Director Nicholas Stoller Being Straight Was Key To Making Bros Work, According To Billy Eichner
Billy Eichner's "Bros" is already breaking new ground and it hasn't even been released yet. Eichner is now the first openly gay man to co-write and star in a major studio film, and "Bros" is the first major studio film to feature an all openly LGBTQ+ principal cast, including in the roles of straight characters. Queerness is embedded in the DNA of "Bros," so it may surprise some to learn that director Nicholas Stoller is straight.
In a recent interview, Eichner said that Stoller was absolutely the perfect person...

Narrated and co-directed by Michael, the documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at the singer. In the trailer, Michael can be heard talking about his feelings on early fame, “I can’t really explain how overwhelming that kind of hysteria can be. The doc provides a look at his private and public persona as cameras followed him around during the turbulent period after “Faith” leading up to, during and after the making of his “Listen Without Prejudice: Vol 1” album in 1990. Michael was heavily involved in and dedicated to the making of this documentary before his tragic passing in 2016, making the doc an incredibly special posthumous release and a poignant and moving tribute to his legacy.

The Billboard Music Awards take place on May 15, These honors recognize the biggest commercial achievements as measured by the Billboard charts, but while many default their predictions to whatever topped the publication’s Year End charts, it’s important to remember that the BBMAs eligibility deadline was in March, several months after the Year-End charts were decided, opening the door for possible surprises. Let’s take a look at the biggest contenders for this year’s ceremony in rap races.

Four features have received support in the development fund’s first round.
Projects from County Lines filmmaker Henry Blake and Almost Heaven director Carol Salter are among the first four to receive support from the Uncertain Kingdom Development Fund.
The £60,000 fund is a relaunch of The Uncertain Kingdom short film initiative. The aim is to support commercial projects that unpack UK culture and identity and have at least 70-minute running times, with features considered at script or treatment stage.
Unlike the earlier anthology project, the Uncertain Kingdom Development Fund will not fund production and the projects are not intended to be released together.
