It’s not uncommon to see the same actor playing several different roles at the same time, especially on TV shows.
Shawn Hatosy has a role on Rescue: Hi-Surf but is also a recurring face on Chicago Pd. Both roles portray Hatosy as an entitled white male in charge who’s not afraid to bend the rules to get his way.
It’s not the first time Hatosy has taken on roles that depict him negatively. He’s one of those actors who is great at playing a jerky bad guy. However, he also has numerous memorable characteristics as an okay guy.
(Lori Allen/NBC)
Hatosy fans from the ’90s might remember him from his early days when he took on awkward teen roles to expand his filmography.

Frank Oz’s illustrious career will be celebrated by the Museum of the Moving Image with screening series “The Magic of Oz: A Frank Oz Retrospective.”
All 15 films Oz directed will screen, ranging from “Little Shop of Horrors” to “The Muppets Take Manhattan” to “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” and “Bowfinger.” Oz’s acting roles in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Inside Out,” plus his character creations for “Sesame Street” and “The Muppet Show,” will also be part of the lineup. The series will take place from October 4 to November 30.
“Frank Oz has been a revered and adored artist for generations, yet I’d argue he’s under-appreciated for his filmmaking, which he’s dedicated the past 40 years to,” curator of film Eric Hynes said.

The Big Bang Theory stands tall among the upper echelons of popular sitcoms that audiences have loved over the years. Along with Friends and How I Met Your Mother, the Jim Parsons-led show always managed to grab eyeballs and still finds new audiences. Parsons, Johnny Galecki, and Kaley Cuoco kicked off as the main leads from season 1.

By season 3, supporting players such as Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, Melissa Rauch, and Mayim Bialik became fan favorites. However, the three main leads continued to be the top earners from the show and the cast’s pay continued to be raised each season. Unfortunately, there was a huge pay gap between Bialik and other male supporting actors.

The seed for In & Out, according to screenwriter Paul Rudnick, was planted during the 1994 Academy Awards when Tom Hanks, accepting the best actor Oscar for Philadelphia, thanked his high school drama teacher, who was gay. What if, Rudnick wondered, that teacher lived in a small Indiana town and wasn’t gay—or, more to the point, what if that teacher was gay and just didn’t realize it yet?
The comic tone of Frank Oz’s film recalls the 1993 episode of Seinfeld titled “The Outing,” in which Jerry is falsely labeled as gay in a college newspaper. That episode’s refrain, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that”—offered by the central characters as both a badge of liberal awareness and a declaration of their skittishness concerning the subject of gay sex—works as a comedic complement to the prestige orientation of something like Philadelphia. After all, the subject...

Comedy icon Bob Newhart, who starred in two popular self-named comedic shows, died Thursday in Los Angeles. He was 94. Newhart’s shows The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart aired in the 70s and 80s.

Newhart gained a new generation of fans via his role as Papa Elf in the 2003 Christmas classic “Elf.” His most recent appearances were on the hit show Young Sheldon.
The comic genius starred in the 70s on The Bob Newhart Show as a confounded Chicago psychologist and in the 80s he launched Newhart about a befuddled New England innkeeper.

Bob Newhart, the iconic comedian and actor who launched a more than six-decade run in show business in 1960 with his introduction of a deadpan, stammering everyman character whose popularity he rode well into his 80’s with a Grammy-winning comedy album and a pair of beloved Emmy-nominated sitcoms, is dead. He was 94 and passed away at his home on Thursday following a short illness. His longtime publicist Jerry Digney announced his death in a press release.
Newhart burst on the scene in 1960 with his album “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” the first comedy album ever to top the Billboard charts. It won three Grammy Awards in ’61, including Album of the Year, Spoken-Word Comedy Album and New Artist. Newhart’s first two albums of comedy monologues (the second called “The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back!”) in fact held Billboard’s top two spots simultaneously, a rare feat.

Bob Newhart, one of the most beloved stand-up comedians of all time, had passed away at 94. According to THR, he died on Thursday morning, with no cause of death listed. He was 94. Many of you reading this may know him best from his classic role in Elf, where he played Will Ferrell’s adopted North Pole father, but his legendary career went back decades, with Newhart an Emmy, Golden Globe and Grammy Winner. Originally an accountant by trade, Newhart used to pass the time at work by making crank phone calls. Soon, he developed a stand-up comedy act, which became a monster hit, leading to an album, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, which became the biggest-selling non-musical album of all time and won him three Grammys in 1961.
From there, Newhart became a popular talk show guest before moving into acting. In the seventies, he had a major hit. The Bob Newhart Show,...

Magnolia Pictures has released a brand new trailer for "Thelma." This film may not be on your radar just yet, but after watching this trailer, it probably should be. Serving as the feature directorial debut of Josh Margolin, the big hook here is that Oscar-nominee June Squibb is getting to lead a revenge thriller at the age of 94. More than that, it marks the first time that Squibb has been given a leading role in a movie in her long, storied career. Check the trailer out for yourself above.
The trailer is impossibly charming, even though there is an insidious plot at the center of it all. Squibb's character gets scammed out of a bunch of money and, with no options left, she sets out on a path of revenge. It's not unrealistically action-packed or anything like that, but it comes off as quite delightful. Squibb is paired with the late Richard Roundtree,...

I think of director Barry Sonnenfeld's "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values" the same way I think of director Tim Burton's "Batman" and "Batman Returns." In each case, the first movie operates as more of a test run for what the filmmakers can do with the property they're adapting, whereas the sequels allow them to really let their darkly off-kilter creative sensibilities run wild.
To be sure, 1993's "Addams Family Values" is the zanier of Sonnenfeld's takes on the "Addams Family" franchise, which originated with Charles Addams' original comic panels for The New Yorker dating back to the '30s. While its predecessor has a fairly basic plot, "Values" pits the eponymous clan against a dastardly black widow -- played to camp perfection by Joan Cusack -- who's out to marry and then murder wealthy Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd). It's also the film that fully embraces the...

Los Angeles, April 21 (Ians) Remember ladies going gaga over Tom Selleck’s signature moustache in ‘Friends’? Well, one day, the 79-year-old actor decided to bid farewell to his signature facial hair for his role in the show ‘Blue Bloods’.
The actor revealed that he initially chose to shave off his moustache to embody the character of police commissioner Frank Reagan on the show, which is currently airing its final season, reports ‘People’ magazine.
Talking about the role, Tom told ‘People’: “At the time, they had him as the New York City police chief. That’s not the boss in New York, the way it’s structured. And I said, ‘Well, I don’t think they can have moustaches, so I’ll shave off my moustache’. And (executive producer) Leonard (Goldberg) said, ‘Let me check with CBS’. And they said no.”

Oscar-nominated actor June Squibb has joined the voice cast of Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.”
The 94-year-old Squibb last worked with the Disney-owned studio for 2020’s “Soul” and 2019’s “Toy Story 4,” and has lent her voice to other animated projects including “Solar Opposites,” “Ralph Breaks the Internet” and “The Fungies.”
Squibb’s character details are unknown, but she joins an A-list voice cast in the sequel, which hits theaters June 14. Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black return as Joy, Sadness and Anger, respectively, while Tony Hale and Liza Lapira take over for Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust after reported salary disputes.
The original “Inside Out” (2015) was set inside the mind of a little girl, Riley, whose life is uprooted when her family moves from the Midwest to San Francisco. The animated blockbuster personified emotions as they conflict on how to best navigate Riley through change.

“May December,” the newest acclaimed drama film from Todd Haynes, is now available to stream on Netflix, and one of the film’s stars, Julianne Moore, is already an early favorite to receive a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her spellbinding performance. Let’s look back at her five Academy Award races and talk about why Moore finally won her first gold trophy in 2015 for “Still Alice” (2014).
Her first Oscar nomination came in 1998 in the Best Supporting Actress category for “Boogie Nights” (1997). It’s last call for a number of great movies leaving HBO and HBO Max in March. Fortunately, the month is also packed with new movies and shows, but if you were planning to revisit any of the films below, now’s your chance.
The good news is you won’t have to squeeze in any binge-watching – there are no series leaving HBO Max this month, just films. Expiring titles of note include Sam Raimi’s definitive horror films “The Evil Dead” and “Evil Dead 2,” Wes Anderson’s charming coming-of-age romance “Moonrise Kingdom,” the Charlize Theron-led dramedy “Tully,” Judd Apatow’s “The King of Staten Island” starring Pete Davidson, and the musical drama “Dreamgirls,” starring Jennifer Hudson in the role that earned her the Oscar.
There are also several comedy favorites expiring in March, including both “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey,...

A new year has arrived but Amazon Prime is looking to the past.
That’s not a bad thing mind you, as for its list of new releases in January 2021, Amazon is bringing back some classic movies and TV shows for its host of subscribers. We’ll get to the Amazon originals in a moment but for now, feast your eyes on January’s impressive library additions for the streamer.
Jan. 1 marks the arrival of all eight seasons of Dexter…roughly four and a half of which are great! Dexter will be receiving its own Michael C. Hall-approved revival later this year and thanks to Amazon you can catch up with the first run again. Speaking of show’s with disappointing conclusions, all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother will come to Amazon on Jan. 19. A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

Hulu has landed rights to “Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself,” the movie version of illusionist’s one-man stage show that ran Off-Broadway.
The Frank Oz-directed film will debut on Hulu on Jan. 22, 2021.
“In & Of Itself” was filmed live in an intimate New York City theater. The show, exploring themes of identity and illusion, is intentionally described in a vague nature. Oz maintains that audiences need to watch the film to understand.
“One of the things I love about ‘In & Of Itself’ is that it can’t be explained. It has to be seen. And now it can be — on Hulu,” Oz said. “And I can’t wait to hear people’s reaction to it.”
In a review for IndieWire, critic Eric Kohn called the 90-minute feature a mix of “stage trickery and alluring autobiographical asides.” He wrote, “DelGaudio transforms the usual shock-and-awe routine into a powerful meditation on...

Wilford Brimley, best known for his roles in “The Natural,” the 1982 remake of “The Thing,” “The Firm” and “Cocoon,” died on Saturday. He was 85.
His agent, Lynda Bensky, told The New York Times that he had been sick with a kidney problem for two months.
Brimley was also famous for the series of commercials for Quaker Oats in which he appeared.
Pauline Kael ably summed up his appeal in a few words. Reviewing “Cocoon” for the New Yorker in 1985, she said, “Wilford Brimley, with his walrus mustache and friendly belly, brings an ornery impudence to his role.”
Brimley, who seemed to enter old age several decades ago, appeared perfectly at home in the Ron Howard-directed movie about senior citizens unintentionally rejuvenated by an alien life force in the pool where they do water aerobics even though he was only 51 at the time. It’s virtually impossible to limit year-end lists to 10 or 20 shows, so it’s literally impossible to include all the great performances from 2017 on one list. But IndieWire has done our best, wading through the hundreds of award-worthy turns from veteran actors and TV newbies to find the best performances this year.
These actors accomplished something special: They elevated their shows even when it seemed like the series couldn’t go any higher. They found surprising depths within the writers’ words and surprised directors with keen insights into their characters. They made us laugh, cry, jump for joy, and scream in frustration. Their precision in understanding who they played helped evoke passion in the audience watching.
We will not soon forget, and if you haven’t yet seen some of these fine thespians go to work, make sure to make the time. There may be a lot of television out there,...

For some who grow up in rural Arkansas there’s limited options: you can either be a meth dealer or a cop chasing meth dealers. Set in a close-knit community of Faulkner County, near Conway, native sons of the region Craig and Brent Renaud have crafted a harrowing look at a community that has no easy answers with Meth Storm. Following two families impacted by the drug trade, on one side is Johnny, a sympathetic DEA agent who has locked up his fair share of classmates, children of classmates, and friends for their involvement in the meth trade. What was once a network of mom-and-pop operations cooking meth locally had been put to an end thanks to laws that require you to show an ID when purchasing Sudafed. The addicts in the region now present an opportunity for the Mexican cartels to peddle high-grade crystallized meth, called Ice, into these poor communities,...

Okay film fans, back to the bar. No, we’re not going to meet at the local pub after the multiplex (although many may want to run there after the big holiday meal). I’m referring to the setting of many a drama and even a few comedies (My Cousin Vinny for example), the courtroom. In and out of that “hallowed ground” , the role of attorney can be a showcase for actors as they deal literally with matters of life and death (Raymond Burr achieved iconic status for his TV law superstar Perry Mason). The trial based thrillers of John Grisham have given several such roles for many, while several veteran thespians have earned acclaim (Paul Newman in The Verdict) with cross-examinations and closing statements. Now another of today’s most celebrated actors approaches the bench as Roman J. Israel, Esq., a most unusual “legal eagle”.

You may not encounter any dragons or need to fight off sword-wielding attackers in your daily life, but you can still train for it with this Game of Thrones-themed workout.
The next time you settle in for an hour (or ten hours if you’re binging, no judgment) of feuding families, fit in a little leg burn with this cone-based circuit workout that trainer Luis Badillo Jr. put together for Reebok.
“If you’re sitting on the couch for hours you’re not doing anything to improve yourself,” Badillo tells Reebok. “I’m always active, on my feet, up and about and doing something.
