But the movie can’t really stand out in the genre because of its reliance on well-known cliches and predictable story aspects. Foo Fighters played their first full-band concert of 2023 at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion at Meadowbrook in Gilford, Nh on Wednesday. The show served as a sort-of warm-up ahead of the band’s run of summer festival appearances. It also marked Foo Fighters’ first public gig with new live drummer Josh Freese, who has stepped in for the late Taylor Hawkins.

The setlist spanned a total of 21 songs, kicking off with “Rescued,” the lead single from their new album, But Here We Are. They further previewed the album with performances of “Under You,” “Nothing At All,” and the album’s title track.

During the show, Dave Grohl also paid tribute to Hawkins with an emotional solo rendition of “Cold Day in the Sun,” which marked the first live performance of the song in five years. “This is something I never thought I’d have to do,” Grohl said prior to the performance.

Out June 2nd, But Here We Are marks Foo Fighters’ first album since the untimely 2022 passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins. While lead single (and Song of the Week) “Rescued” understandably had the emotional sonics of a ballad, “Under You” comes in hot with buoyant, power-pop guitars. Still, it’s clear the song acts as a vehicle for Dave Grohl to process his grief. As he traverses “Pictures of us sharing songs and cigarettes,” the frontman admits:

“There are times that I need someone/ There are times I feel like no one/ Sometimes I just don’t know what to do,” he sings. “There are days I can’t remember/ There are days that last forever/ Someday I’ll come out from under you.”

Prior to last weeks’ release of The Smashing Pumpkins’ new album Atum- the third and final part of their rock opera- frontman Billy Corgan had to pay a hacker out of his own pocket to not leak the band’s music online.

During a recent appearance on Kroq’s Klein/Ally Show, the lead singer claimed that a hacker got a hold of nine songs roughly six months before the album’s release date. It happened at the same time the record was due to be mixed and mastered, he shared.

“They were all probably the most catchy, single-y type songs,” Corgan said on the podcast. “So it’s like, not only is it six months too early, you’re pretty much giving away the album before you even have a chance to set your feet into the ground.

Detective John Luther’s movie debut helped lock up millions of UK viewers for Netflix, but the feature fell well short of other film offerings on Netflix.

Luther: The Fallen Sun was watched by 3M people on TV sets, according to Barb, the official audience research group. It has also occupied first place in Netflix’s top-10 movies in the UK for two weeks.

Luther was only sixth in the list of Netflix’s most-watched movies since Barb began reporting viewing figures for streamers in November 2021, according to a Deadline analysis.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery spent two weeks in Barb’s list of the top 50 shows and films in the UK, amassing a total of 18.5M viewers in that time.

Don’t Look Up also spent two weeks in Barb’s list, meaning it was watched by 15M people. The Adam Project (11.1M), The Gray Man (6.9M), and Enola Holmes 2 (4.6M) also performed well.

AMC Networks’ interim executive chairman James Dolan issued a stark warning as the company revealed its fourth-quarter earnings Friday: The industry’s “current mechanisms for monetizing content are not working.”

“Across the board, the content industry is being disrupted by cord cutting in the traditional linear sector or MVPDs and also in the streaming sector,” Dolan told analysts on the company’s earnings call. “It’s also being disrupted by changing viewership habits, a challenged ad market and rising content costs.”

That materialized in a 403.8 million content write-off for the IFC Films and Sundance Channel parent in 2022. The writedown accounted for the bulk of restructuring charges that led to a net loss of 264.7 million for the fourth quarter of 2022. AMC translated that to a diluted loss per share of 6.11. Adjusted for one-time items, the company said it earned 2.52 per share. In addition to content write-offs, the company recorded 45.2 million in severance and other personnel costs.
