Candyman star Tony Todd, who died Wednesday after a long illness, is being remembered by his co-star Virginia Madsen.

The Oscar nominee, who played graduate student Helen Lyle who’s stalked by Todd’s titular hook-handed killer while investigating urban legends at a Chicago housing project in the 1992 horror film, paid tribute to Todd with a series of posts on Instagram.

Madsen initially shared a brief video post after she heard the news of Todd’s death, in which she said she didn’t “know what to say” but called Todd her “beloved.”

“May you rest in power sweet to the sweet in heaven,” Madsen wrote in the caption alongside a video. “The great actor Tony Todd has left us and now is an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can’t right now. I love you.”

Tony Todd, an actor who starred in the Candyman and Final Destination horror franchises, has died. He was 69.

He died Wednesday at his home in Marina del Rey after a long illness, his wife, Fatima, told The Hollywood Reporter.

“The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony, -Your Final Destination Family,” New Line Cinema, which produced the franchise, wrote on Instagram.

Born on Dec. 4, 1954, in Washington, Todd went on to study for two years at the University of Connecticut before getting a scholarship for the Eugene O’Neill National Theatre Institute. His time there helped lay a foundation for his stints at the then-Hartman Conservatory in Stamford, Connecticut, and the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island.

Pigeon Shrine FrightFest 2024, the UK’s premier horror and fantasy film festival, has announced its thrilling lineup for this year’s event. Marking its 25th edition, the festival will run from Thursday, 22 August to Monday, 26 August, taking over the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London. For the first time, the festival will utilise all seven screens, including two Odeon Luxe West End screens, to showcase a diverse selection of horror films from around the globe.

The festival opens with the world premiere of Broken Bird, the highly anticipated directorial debut from actress-filmmaker Joanne Mitchell. Based on an original story by Tracey Sheals and Mitchell’s award-winning short Sybil, the film tells the disturbing tale of a mortician, played by Rebecca Calder, whose dark desires spiral out of control.

Diana Kerew, an Emmy-winner television producer, died at her home in Glendale on Nov. 25 following a battle with cancer. She was 81.

Kerew executive produced more than 60 movies and miniseries for television, achieving success in the male-dominated entertainment industry and paving the way for other female producers as a mentor.

Kerew started off as a reader for David Susskind’s Talent Associates; she then became the first female producer at the company. Working for Talent Associates and later Time-Life Television as an executive producer, she worked on 16 films and miniseries. Some of these projects included the Emmy-nominated “Blind Ambition,” starring Martin Sheen, the Emmy-nominated and Peabody winner “The Wall,” and “The Bunker” which earned Anthony Hopkins an Emmy for acting.

Kerew briefly served as executive producer and vice president of television for Highgate Pictures before starting her own production company. Transitioning to focus on children’s programming, Kerew worked on several ABC “Afterschool Specials.

Bloody Disgusting has learned the sad news tonight that three-time Academy Award nominated acting legend Piper Laurie has passed away. The actress was 91 years old.

Los Angeles Times reports, “Still acting until late in life, Piper Laurie died Saturday morning in Los Angeles, her manager confirmed. An exact cause of death was not given.”

One of the films that earned Piper Laurie an Oscar nomination was Brian De Palma’s Carrie, the iconic 1976 adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel. Laurie played Margaret White in the film, the mother of lead character Carrie White and the true villain of the horror classic.

Piper Laurie was also nominated for Academy Awards before and after her role in Carrie, first for The Hustler in 1962 and then later for Children of a Lesser God in 1987.

Exclusive: Wild West, the genre-focused joint venture between French film companies Goodfellas (ex-Wild Bunch International) and Capricci, has unveiled a third slate of projects at a co-financing event in Nantes.

The two-day meeting, running June 22-23, comes hot on the heels of a successful Cannes Critics’ Week world premiere for Stéphan Castang’s thriller Vincent Must Die.

The film, which racked up strong sales and reviews, was on Wild West’s inaugural 2021 slate.

Goodfellas co-head Vincent Maraval and Capricci CEO Thierry Lounas created Wild West with the aim of developing and producing a pipeline of fast-turnaround, relatively low budget, French-language genre films.

Humanity has been telling tales about simulated realities since the very dawn of storytelling, so it makes sense that modern audiences are absolutely fascinated with open-world gaming. Be it fantasy role-playing titles that allow you to step into the shoes of a more magical version of yourself or crime sims that encourage you to live out your most violent daydreams upon unsuspecting NPCs, franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Grand Theft Auto are the closest we’ve come to the immersive digital worlds that were promised to us by science fiction.

However, when it comes to horror games, the genre usually benefits from a highly curated experience with little room for side adventures. Give players too much free reign over their monster slaying and item collection and you usually end up with a gameplay loop that doesn’t mesh well with virtual frights. Frictional Games’s Amnesia: The Bunker centers around a World War II soldier who awakens in an underground shelter with, you guessed it, amnesia. What the title doesn’t convey is just how big of a departure the game is from the other entries in the Amnesia series, including 2010’s The Dark Descent, one of the best horror games of all time.

For one, the linearity of the game’s predecessors is gone, replaced by a semi-open world built around a central safe room. Multiple paths snake away from that hub into the depths of the bunker, and you may travel them as you wish, searching for the demolition tools to blast open an exit. No matter where you travel, though, you’ll find large holes in the walls from which the single mutant that stalks your progress throughout the game could emerge.

I’ve always been fascinated with the popularity of the Amnesia franchise. The first game came out in an era where survival horror was pretty much dead. It soon caught on with YouTubers and let’s-players overreacting to its unique flavor of horror. Like it or not, it kept the torch of survival horror lit during an era where Resident Evil 6 was the biggest horror game on shelves. This was soon followed by an outsourced sequel titled A Machine for Pigs that took everything players loved about the first game and tossed it all out in favor of a walking simulator through carefully curated scenes. It didn’t work. The series returned to the original developers with Rebirth and for the most part it felt like a back-to-basics approach with a bigger emphasis on story.

Amnesia: The Bunker can’t seem to catch a break, it seems. Having already been delayed twice, the game is being delayed yet again. This time, however, it’s only for two weeks.

Taking to Frictional Games’ Twitter, Amnesia: The Bunker‘s Creative Lead Fredrik Olsson relayed the news that the game will now release on June 6. The reasoning for the delay is due to “rare crashes” that have occurred during the game’s certification process that have been difficult to identify. As a result, the team needs to get them squashed before release.

The new release date does pose another issue for The Bunker, as it will now be competing against Blizzard’s Diablo IV, which will be releasing the same day.

After being pushed to next month for release from March, Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Bunker will see another delay. However, fans don’t need to worry, as the delay is just one more week.

Originally set for a May 16 release, The Bunker will instead arrive May 23. According to the press release, Frictional will be taking the extra week to polish the game further to ensure that everything is “absolutely perfect”. The other reason being that May 23 will give a bit more breathing room for the game, seeing as May 16 would put it up against another Survival Horror title in Red Barrels’ The Outlast Trials, which arrives on May 18.

Dillon Jordan, a producer on projects including Netflix movie The Kindergarten Teacher and A24 film Skin, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to operate an international prostitution ring. He used his production company, PaperChase Films, as a front for the operation, said federal prosecutors in an announcement.

Jordan, 50, of Arrowhead Lake, California, on Thursday in New York federal court pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy to violate the Mann Act, a federal law prohibiting transportation of people across state lines to engage in illegal sexual activity. Under the plea agreement, three lesser charges of enticement, use of interstate commerce to promote unlawful activity and money laundering were dismissed. He faces up to five years in prison. He will also forfeit 1.4 million in ill-gotten gains.

Written by Charles Bunce and Brian Hanson and directed by Hanson (The Black String), The Bunker is set during a mysterious alien invasion. A government scientist (Edmundson) is sealed in an underground bunker and must create a bio-weapon to stop the mysterious travelers before they take over Earth.

Following his acclaimed debut feature “Der Bunker,” Germany’s Nikias Chryssos’ returns to dark fables with a timely tale of a mysterious cult in “A Pure Place.”

The offbeat coming-of-age tale follows two young siblings who live in a secret community on a remote Greek island, isolated from the rest of the world, which they consider impure and dangerous.

The plot follows Vinny, a millennial from London, joins a dating app for the first time while living in lockdown. From a choice of five interested women, the player can control who Vinny video dates and how he interacts with their very different personalities. The interactive story unfolds in a multitude of different directions, each exploring whether compatibility, chemistry and connection are still possible in a world where physical touch is no longer an option.

Five Dates is a fast-turnaround rom-com project that has been conceptualized and developed during lockdown and set for release in Q4 2020.

The Complex is a sci-fi interactive movie game from Wales Interactive and is available to “play” on the Nintendo Switch, Windows, MacOs, XBox One and PS4.

I’ve played games like this before, such as The Bunker, so I know the genre. It’s basically a movie in which you make the odd decision, taking the story into unique directions. This, while not especially open and diverse in the way it plays, does offer plenty of story roads that you can go down, and in turn offers some replayability. The Complex itself has numerous endings to unlock, all depending on what you choose to do as the story goes on.

Hopkins was born on New Year’s Eve in 1937 to working-class parents in Wales, and was inspired by fellow Welsh actor Richard Burton to study drama. He found success in theater, eventually becoming an understudy for Laurence Olivier, successfully taking over when Olivier became ill. Although his career was thriving in the theater, Hopkins decided to try his luck in television and films, and soon received his break in 1968 playing Richard the Lionheart in “The Lion in Winter.” Hopkins worked steadily on both the small and big screens, often receiving praise for his work. Whilst we’ve reviewed a number of Wales Interactive’s Fmv releases, this is actually the first time I’ve played one of their games for myself. You see, I felt out of love with this particular sub-genre of video gaming some years ago and have only just got back into playing this style of game thanks to the Limited Run Games releases of Night Trap on the Nintendo Switch, and the re-release if the underrated “classic” Double Switch on the PS4. Both of those titles featured brilliant remasters of games from the 16-bit era, when Fmv was delivered on cartridge and video compression was virtually unheard of. In the intervening years, despite huge leaps in technology, it seems the Fmv genre was somehow left in the past for many.

They include hourlong Snap at Fox, from Whiskey Cavalier creator David Hemingson; Love And… at NBC, from Greek creator Sean Smith; and The Bunker at NBC, from graphic novelist and writer Joshua Hale Fialkov; as well as single-camera half-hours The Park at NBC, from A. P. Bio creator Mike O’Brien & Shelly Gossman; and Post Office, also at NBC, from writer Amy Hubbs.

All five projects hail from Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios. They stem from the new first-look deal BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated director Robinson inked at the studio in July. She is executive producing and attached to direct all five, with CannyLads Head of Development Kelly Pancho co-executive producing.

Playing a villain in a movie is a great career move for an actor, but playing a real life, universally known monster like Adolf Hitler is not necessarily a decision that’s made lightly. Even in the history of countless movie Nazis, having the guts and gravitas to actually play Hitler is something else entirely. Taika Waititi, who portrays a satirical, imaginary version of Der Fuhrer inside a young boy’s mind for his latest film “Jojo Rabbit,” only got his movie made under the studio’s condition that he play the part of Hitler. TV fans, we won’t blame you for getting chills if you see two ghosts floating up to the podium this year to accept their Emmys. Both Anthony Hopkins (“The Leftovers”) and Ron Cephas Jones (“This Is Us”) are contenders at the 2018 Emmys for playing characters who died in the first seasons of their shows. Hopkins is up for Best Drama Supporting Actor for portraying the dearly departed Robert Ford on HBO’s sci-fi series, while Jones is looking good for a nomination as Best Drama Guest Actor for his role as cancer victim William Hill on NBC’s family drama.

Hopkins received a lead nomination last year for “Westworld,” but his reduced screen time in Season 2 as the theme park creator’s virtual self prompted HBO to campaign him as a supporting actor.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Fmv games, Wales Interactive have released some thoroughly enjoyable games recently with The Bunker and Late Shift and I also played the mystery game Contradiction which although flawed was an enjoyable experience. With The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, despite its plus points, I found myself wearying of the limitations of the genre and couldn’t work out if I was just expecting too much or if I was just burned out from playing too many similar games on the trot.

The mystery that forms the backbone of the game is that one of Dr Dekker’s patients has seemingly murdered him and you are the replacement therapist who has to not only try to solve his murder but also cure his patients along the way.
