Jeff Goldblum, 25, has forgotten his mantra. At least, his nameless party guest character – dubbed “Man on the Phone” in the screenplay – has. And it’s the way he delivered that line in 1977’s Annie Hall that made him stand out despite only having a few seconds of screen time. Somehow – just by being himself – Jeff Goldblum turned a throwaway bit into one of the funniest lines in one of the funniest films.
As for Jeff Goldblum himself, he says his mantras are “I am grateful” and “Accept, enjoy, enthuse.” And that, across 50 years on the big screen, is as truthful as it gets when it comes to Jeff Goldblum.
Let’s find out: What Happened to…Jeff Goldblum?

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2023, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
After 2022 left me feeling a bit out in weeds in regards to film culture, I came into 2023 a pessimist and left with a rejuvenated belief that the movies are, indeed, back. This year was overflowing with riches, to the point where even up until this very moment I’m mentally swapping in and out some titles for the list you’re about to see of my annual favorites.
There’s just too many gems I don’t want to leave behind, and they came in all shapes and sizes. From some of my favorite directors making highly anticipated returns (including one for their final feature) to filmmakers I’ve always been cold on for the first time making something that has nestled its way into my heart...

The Outer Critics Circle (Occ), the official organization of writers on New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers and national publications, today announced the nominees for the 72nd Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards, honoring the 2022-2023 Broadway and Off-Broadway season.
“New York, New York” received a major backing from this announcement, which coincides with the production’s opening night. The new musical with songs from John Kander, the late Fred Ebb and Lin-Manuel Miranda earned a whopping 12 nominations, the most of any production. “Some Like it Hot” trails just behind it with 10 nominations. The most nominated plays of the season are the Off-Broadway sensation “Downstate” and Broadway epic “Leopoldstadt,” both with six nominations apiece.
This is the first season with newly reconstructed acting categories, which have removed gender specifications, and have been expanded to separately include off-Broadway performers. In the previous configuration, actors in Broadway and off-Broadway productions competed in the same category.

Robyn channels the risqué side of Prince and the elegance of Greek mythology in her new “Ever Again” video.
Throughout the clip, the Swedish pop star shimmies and writhes inside a sandy soundstage filled with classical Greek statuary. She’s dressed in a lacy white Louis Vuitton suit that resembles the “Dirty Mind” singer crossed with a Parthenon figure; and, fittingly, she dances with Prince’s trademark erotic flair — stripping off her outer layer of clothing and grinding against her microphone stand.

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

Indie producer Raphael D. Silver died March 4 in Salt Lake City, Utah, two days after a skiing accident in Deer Valley. He was 83. The real estate developer lived in New York City and East Hampton. The production company Silverfilm, which he ran with his wife of 57 years, director Joan Micklin Silver, produced her 1975 debut film “Hester Street” and others including her 1988 “Crossing Delancey, which earned Amy Irving a Golden Globe nomination, and Boston-area film "Between the Lines," starring Jeff Goldblum and John Heard. Silver directed two micro-budget films, 1978's "On the Yard," starring Heard," and "A Walk on the Moon" in 1987. Silver pioneered the entrepreneurial model of filmmaking that continues to this day, according to Ira Deutchman, the chairman of Columbia University’s film program. Silver was a director of the Independent Film Project. Early on, Silver participated in Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute and was also on the board of the Big Apple Circus.
