Jeff Goldblum's character, Michael in "The Big Chill" (1983), would be the direct extension of his character Max here, as he matured and wound up writing for People Magazine.
The alternative newspaper of the film is based on the Boston Phoenix.
Gwen Welles and Jeff Goldblum had previously appeared together in 'Nashville' (dir. Robert Altman, 1975.)
