Victoria is upset when Roger's questions about Burke Devlin turn into accusations against her. Later that night, Victoria hears a strange cry and meets an unfriendly David Collins.

The caretaker Matthew Morgan accuses Vicki of snooping. Vicki wonders if her unexpected job offer at Collinwood has any connection to her past at the orphanage.
Carolyn tells Vicki the legend of Widows' Hill. It's revealed that Burke Devlin was sent to prison ten years ago. Carolyn is fascinated by the charming and dangerous Burke.
Carolyn meets Burke at his hotel, and he misleads her into believing that he is only stopping in Collinsport for a few days. David overhears his father saying he should be put in an institution.
Burke was convicted of manslaughter on Roger's testimony. He denies wanting revenge, but Liz and Roger are skeptical. Meanwhile, Vicki questions Matthew.
David tries to hide something in Vicki's room. Victoria tries to be friends with David. At the Blue Whale, Carolyn invites Burke to join her and Joe at their table.
Roger plans to meet Burke at the Blue Whale. David is convinced that his father hates him. Liz receives a phone call with some upsetting news for the Collins family.
While waiting for Roger to arrive at The Blue Whale, Burke flirts with Caroyln, much to Joe's chagrin. Meanwhile, Elizabeth becomes convinced that Burke was responsible for Roger's car accident.
Vicky and Carolyn become convinced the Burke did not cause Roger's accident. Bill Malloy is suspicious about Burke hiring a private detective Wilbur Strake to investigate the Collins family before Burke arrives in town.
Upon learning that Sam Evans leaves town on a regular basis, Burke Devlin offers Sam $1000 to have a portrait of himself painted in an effort to keep Sam Evans in Collinsport.
With looming suspicions that Burke tried to kill him, Roger finally decides to involve the police, though the investigation doesn't bode well with young David.
Burke is being interrogated about Roger's car accident by the constable in the Collinsport Inn. Joe discusses his plans to Carolyn about getting his own boat.
David tries to get a hold of Vicki's letter from the foundling home, thinking it may have some damaging information about him. Vicki becomes suspicious of David after she catches him reading technical magazines.
David has a struggle with Vicky in her bedroom, and then Vicky speaks to Liz in the drawing room to explain why. Roger threatens to see the sheriff doesn't get re-elected if he doesn't have Burke Devlin put behind bars.
David disappears from Collinwood. Burke is in Bangor in a private meeting with Stuart Bronson to gather information about all of the Collins family's assets and liabilities.
Burke is angry at the sheriff for conducting a search in his Collinsport hotel suite while he's been out of town. Maggie finds David in the restaurant and tries to hold him until Roger arrives.
David spends some time with Burke in his hotel suite, after hiding out from Roger Collins. As the storm approaches Collinwood, Liz is worried about David and blames Vicki for his actions.
Burke gives David a ride home. In Collinwood, Roger scorns David for running away and also, he searches David and interrogates him about the bleeder valve.
