One of the screenwriters opens a newspaper and comments on the stupidity of people who say that everyday life is full of ideas, you can find inspiration in any newspaper. He summarizes two stories in the paper--an unemployed man has been arrested for stealing a bicycle and a priest and a Communist mayor have a fight about who will carry the Virgin in a procession--and asks who could possibly make a film out of something so trivial and boring. The stories are the basis of Vittorio de Sica's masterpiece, The Bicycle Thieves, and Duvivier's own film The Little World of Don Camillo.
