Marvel recently updated its release schedule for 2024, 2025, and beyond. 2025 will be packed with both live-action and animated releases, with many projects already in production or set to begin soon.
The studio’s filming schedule is busy, with Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man 4, and Vision Quest all expected to start filming in 2025, mostly in England.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman recently revealed that there’s one more Marvel project planned to begin filming in the UK in the fall of 2025.
This information was shared through Richtman’s paid newsletter and hasn’t been officially confirmed by Marvel. With so many rumored and confirmed projects in the works, it’s hard to keep track, but there are a few movies that seem more likely than others.
One possibility for the untitled movie is Shang-Chi 2. In December 2021, Marvel announced a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, with Destin Daniel Cretton returning as writer and director.

This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" season 6 part 2.
Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee) is one of the most brutal villains "Cobra Kai" has introduced, so in a way, it's fitting that he receives the most brutal end on the series so far. The show's characters can usually bounce back from just about any fate, up to and including paraplegia and lengthy prison sentences. However, Kwon's death in the "Cobra Kai" season 6 part 2 finale, titled "Eunjangdo," is a shocking moment that immediately raises the stakes for the remaining episodes.
The plot twist of Kwon accidentally falling on the Eunjangdo knife he's palming during his fight with Axel Kovačević (Patrick Luwis) was carefully calculated to shuffle the Sekai Taikai deck. Before his demise, "Cobra Kai" season 6 devoted tons of time to establish the Cobra Kai team's latest prodigy as an unparalleled master martial artist. Where most "Cobra Kai" characters use...

Wave goodbye to Brat Summer, and say hello to Hot Tom Summer. It's been three long years since Tom Holland's Spider-Man last graced the silver screen in "No Way Home," the crossover bonanza that united three separate franchises into an "Avengers"-sized behemoth. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has gone through a bit of a shakeup in the years since, leaving the wall crawler's next step somewhat up in the air -- whether it be a possible appearance in the recently-released "Venom: The Last Dance" or in another standalone film. The actor has previously assured the legions of fans that plans for a "Spider-Man 4" have been in the works, conditioned on its writers delivering a worthy enough story. This afternoon, those plans have now inched significantly closer to becoming a reality ... and it's big news for Holland fans everywhere.

All Rights Reserved)

Spider-Man will return – but we still have a ways to go. According to Tom Holland, his next “Spider-Man” film will begin shooting in Summer 2025.

Tom Holland provided an update on the highly anticipated fourth installment in his Spider-Man film series. In a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Holland said that production on the new movie will kick off in the summer of 2025.

In a much-needed win for theaters, "Smile 2" opened right in line with expectations at the box office this past weekend. Director Parker Finn's sequel to 2022's surprise original hit "Smile" picked up right where that movie left off. Audiences were ready for more and they turned out to see the next chapter in this budding horror franchise.
Paramount's sequel opened with an estimated $23 million domestically to go with another $23 million overseas for a $46 million global start. "Smile 2" had been looking at a debut in the $25 million range so this was pretty much on the money. It's also almost exactly as much as the previous film made when it debuted in October 2022 to $22.6 million, before finishing with $106 million domestically and $111 million overseas for a grand total of $217 million. The good news here is that the sequel opened better than the original internationally, with the first film only...

Tom Holland has become one of the biggest stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though he had to step in and fill big shoes previously worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, he has truly carved out a place for himself as Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" films, as well as the larger MCU. Early on, though, the actor developed a bit of a reputation for spoiling secrets, which is a big no-no in the Marvel realm. We can chalk that up to a learning curve because it turns out Holland recently managed to keep one of Marvel's biggest secrets to himself.
The actor was only just a guest on Rich Roll's podcast, where he discussed the launch of his new non-alcoholic beer brand, Bero. During the conversation, Holland touched on his long-standing relationship with Robert Downey Jr., which goes back to his MCU debut in "Captain America: Civil War.

Speaking in a recent interview on the “Rich Roll Podcast,” Holland explained how he’s making “Spider-Man 4” a priority, especially in regards to his creative involvement.

Tom Holland revealed during an interview on the “Rich Roll Podcast” that he recently read a draft of the script for his fourth “Spider-Man” movie and “it needs work, but the writers are doing a great job.” Variety confirmed in September that “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is in early talks to direct the sequel, taking over Holland’s franchise from his trilogy director Jon Watts.
“One of the things is that, with Marvel, your film is a small cog in a large machine,” Holland said about “Spider-Man 4” development. “That machine has got to keep running. You have to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing. John Boyega and Simu Liu have fans speculating after an intriguing exchange on X, seemingly teasing their return to their respective franchises: Marvel and Star Wars.
MCU fans have been waiting for Shang-Chi 2 for years, and there are rumors that the Ten Rings wielder himself will be one of the leads in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
As for Boyega, he was last seen in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, with no news of his return to the galaxy far, far away, aside from Daisy Ridley’s hope to see him reprise his role as Finn in her new Star Wars movie.

At long last, "Spider-Man 4" is moving forward. The long-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel has found its director, but it won't be Jon Watts this time around, who helmed all three of Tom Holland's previous solo adventures. Instead, a new director will bring some new life to the franchise behind-the-camera. He may be new to directing Spider-Man, but this is a filmmaker Marvel fans are familiar with.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to direct the currently untitled fourth "Spider-Man" film, with Holland expected to return as Peter Parker. Cretton is known best as the director of 2021's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," which is considered one of the better MCU films to come out in the post-"Avengers: Endgame" era. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will keep swinging in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton in early talks to helm the film.
In addition to the Simu Liu-led “Shang-Chi,” Cretton’s other credits 2013’s “Short Term 12,” 2017’s “The Glass Castle” and 2019’s “Just Mercy.” He was previously set to direct the now-scrapped “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” but departed the project in November 2023. Cretton has stayed in the Marvel family and co-created the upcoming “Wonder Man” miniseries, starring Yahya Abdul Matteen II. Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a surprisingly successful entry in Phase Four of the MCU. The film was released at the height of the pandemic and earned over $432 million at the box office. A sequel was announced at the time, with filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton returning.
While the origins of the Ten Rings have been kept ambiguous in the MCU, they seem to be extremely powerful. A new rumor regarding the sequel revealed that time travel will be involved in Shang-Chi 2. Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi would reportedly be able to time travel and battle the Agents of Atlas using the Ten Rings.

In recent years, Labor Day weekend’s reputation as a box office dead zone has been upended by strong showings from films like “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “The Equalizer 3.” Unfortunately, for 2024, standard perception prevails with a predictably lackluster showing.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (Warner Bros.) opens next week to a projected $100 million+ debut, starting what looks like an improved rest of the year compared to the final four months in 2023. With summer nearly over, the fall movie season is almost upon us. It's certainly early but for the time being, things are looking good. September used to be a bit of a dumping ground month for studios, with that post-summer hangover setting in badly. In recent years though, things have changed. It's now become fertile ground for the right movie to break out in a big way. It very much seems like Warner Bros. and director Tim Burton have just such a movie in "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." Well over three decades after the original "Beetlejuice" hit theaters, the long-awaited sequel is poised to become a breakout smash hit.
"Beetlejuice 2" is currently looking at an opening in the $81 to $94 million range when it hits theaters next weekend, per Box Office Theory. Warner Bros., for what it's worth, is being a little more conservative, with the studio estimating a debut in the $65 to $75 million range,...

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tasha Huo, the co-writer for the upcoming Naruto live-action film expressed her enthusiasm for the project’s direction under the writer-director Destin Daniel Cretton.
Huo praised Destin’s approach to adapting the manga, noting his deep understanding of the source material.
According to Huo, the director’s understanding of Naruto goes beyond the typical blockbuster treatment, focusing on the emotional depth of the characters and their relationships rather than solely the epic scale of the series’ world.
“I think that’s such a cool choice because he’s going to be able to capture how nuanced and special Naruto is without getting distracted by the big world that it is, which I think could easily be done by someone who’s not a fan or someone who’s coming in for a cash payday. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) is one of the best MCU entries in the post-Endgame era. The movie got great reviews across the board, making Simu Liu's hero among the most exciting new Avengers. However, Marvel Studios is yet to officially announce Shang-Chi 2; what's going on with that?
Well, the Marvel Studios team have had Shang-Chi in the forefront of their minds. In fact, Inverse recently reported that the next Avengers movie was originally set to have Shang-Chi in the spotlight. But with Avengers 5 moving away from The Kang Dynasty and instead becoming Doomsday, it also means that Shang-Chi's involvement may have been re-worked.
And this brings us onto the proposed Shang-Chi 2. The sequel wasn't mentioned at all in Marvel Studio's 2025 slate, or beyond. Naturally, this has led to cancellation rumors; perhaps Marvel will silently move on from the character. Thankfully, those rumors appear to be inaccurate.

The first Shang-Chi movie was a notable success for Marvel, resonating well with audiences despite some criticisms of certain plot elements. Given its success, fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel, which Marvel has officially announced.
However, updates on the sequel have been sparse. In response to this, series star Simu Liu, the Canadian actor who plays Shang-Chi, was recently asked about the sequel’s progress. While he didn’t provide specific details, he did share some insights into the current status of the highly anticipated follow-up.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in 2021, garnering mostly positive reviews and earning $432.2 million against a budget of $150-200 million, marking it as a success. Fans appreciated Marvel’s expansion of its character roster, and Simu Liu’s portrayal of the titular superhero was well-received. Marvel confirmed a sequel would be in the works, but updates have been sparse, leaving some fans concerned.

The prolonged silence from Marvel had left many concerned, but a recent tease from Liu himself has sparked a glimmer of hope, suggesting that progress is definitely being made behind the scenes.

Ever since Marvel Studios launched the Multiverse Saga, it has placed a focus on building out its roster of new heroes, while also making time to focus on some of the secondary heroes of the Infinity Saga. That meant audiences could enjoy a mix of origin stories and sequels from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a combination that they hadn't had regularly since the franchise's earlier days.
There were some mixed results, however, as some of those movies were very successful, while others weren't - a first for Marvel Studios! - forcing them to reconsider some of their upcoming titles. And that led fans to worry about a number of the planned sequels being cancelled (and one of them has indeed been confirmed to have been scrapped).
The good news is that at least one of them, Shang-Chi 2, is definitely still going ahead.

Marvel’s Shang-Chi might not be one of the most popular superheroes when compared to some members of the Avengers, but his popularity is certainly increasing thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He is a very interesting character with rich lore and that is why fans love him.
The first Shang-Chi movie was a solid success for Marvel and most of the fans liked it, although they did have some issues with how some plot elements were handled. Still, the production can generally be considered a success and that is why the fans are waiting for a sequel, which has been announced by Marvel.
Still, despite that, no updates have been provided for a while, which is why the series star, Canadian actor Simu Liu, was asked about the state of the sequel, and while he did not give us any precise details, he did reveal some information about...

Would you trust John Cena to be your bodyguard for a day? Well, that’s what Awkwafina’s character is forced to do in their new movie, “Jackpot!”
Ok, technically, she’s trusting Noel — he’s just played by Cena. Now streaming on Prime Video, Paul Feig’s latest film centers on Katie Kim (Awkwafina), who finds herself literally running for her life after winning the lottery in near-future Los Angeles.
In this world, it’s perfectly legal to murder the lottery winner and take over their jackpot, so long as you complete the kill by sundown and don’t use a gun. It’s an insane concept, and it boasts a fun cast of familiar faces to bring it all together.
Here’s who you need to know.

Noel is a bodyguard who comes to help Katie, for a price. He’s mostly a good-hearted dude though.

“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” has been retitled with a full-tilt pivot. The next Avengers films will be “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” and they will both be directed by the Russo Brothers.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are uniting with Marvel Studios once again to helm the next superhero team-up feature. On Saturday evening, they made their return official by taking the stage at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H to thunderous applause.
“When we directed ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ we really believed it was the end for us in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Joe Russo to the crowd. “That four-movie run was incredible, and it left us creatively spent.” However, in the time since, the duo found a “very special story” that convinced them to come back. In fact, “it’s the biggest story that Marvel comics ever told. It’s the reason that Anthony and I are standing up here.

People just love the Minions. With "Despicable Me 4" continuing to tear it up at the global box office, the franchise has crossed a major milestone, making a bit of history in the process. Illumination's signature series of films has now collectively crossed the $5 billion mark worldwide, making it the first animated franchise in history to do so. What's more, if things continue to go the way they're going, that number will be $6 billion and counting in just a few years.
"Despicable Me 4" once again topped the charts over the weekend, pulling in $44.6 million domestically in its second weekend. That represents just a 40% drop week-to-week following the sequel's record-setting opening weekend. Internationally, Gru and the Minions held strong as well, pulling in another $87.9 million from overseas markets. That puts the movie's running total at $437.8 million worldwide, with a lot of gas left in the tank. More importantly, it was...

There's a new king in town. It may have happened just as the movie is arriving on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD, but "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has passed a majorly impressive box office milestone. Two and a half months after director Adam Wingard's follow-up to 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" hit theaters, it has officially passed 2017's "Kong: Skull Island" to become the highest-grossing movie in the MonsterVerse franchise.
According to Deadline, "Godzilla x Kong" has now amassed $570 million worldwide, taking it just past the $568.6 million total of "Skull Island." Wingard's second MonsterVerse film has earned $196.3 million domestically to go with $373.7 million internationally. The biggest difference is that "Skull Island" made a whopping $400 million of its total overseas in its day. The only film in the franchise to make more than "GxK" domestically was 2014's "Godzilla" ($200 million domestically/$529 million worldwide) directed by Gareth Edwards. That film kicked...

Legendary’s Monsterverse has found a new master of disaster. The studio has tapped Grant Sputore to direct the next theatrical outing in the franchise following March’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Sputore came up from the world of commercials, and as a features director helmed the sci-fi movie I Am Mother, starring Hilary Swank. The film bowed at Sundance before hitting Netflix in 2019.
The new Monstervese feature is described as a continuation of the franchise centering Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other Titans. The script comes from prolific genre scribe Dave Callaham, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Sputore’s hiring follows news that Adam Wingard would not return after directing both the latest installment and Godzilla vs. Kong (2022). Upon the release of Godzilla x Kong, Wingard told The Hollywood Reporter he hoped to return for another film to complete a trilogy,...

Avengers, re-assemble!
Variety has reported that Shawn Levy, reliable director of “Night at the Museum,” “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” is “in the mix” to helm the next “Avengers” superhero team-up for Marvel. In late July, his promised-to-be-potty-mouthed R-rated “Deadpool & Wolverine” will hit theaters and, clearly, Marvel’s leader, Kevin Feige, liked what he saw.
Marvel is in desperate need of a course correction after some wobbly entries like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “The Marvels,” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” There was once a time when the Marvel opening logo was enough to print money and create cultural resonance, but those days have begun to wane, due in part to a glut of Disney+ streaming shows and the fact that “Avengers: Endgame” really did seem like a nice place to end the story. Director Shawn Levy may be sticking around the Marvel Cinematic Universe a bit longer.
Levy, who helmed this summer’s “Deadpool and Wolverine,” is being eyed by Marvel — though it’s in very early stages — to direct the next “Avengers” movie.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who made 2021’s Marvel movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” was previously supposed to direct the fifth “Avengers” movie, but he backed out in November 2023. That movie, which is scheduled for May 1, 2026, also does not currently have a title. It was originally named “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” but lost that title after Jonathan Majors, who was cast as the time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror, was convicted of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend. After this untitled “Avengers” movie, the next will be “Avengers: Secret Wars,” set for May 7, 2027.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in dire need for rejuvenation. In an era where ‘superhero fatigue ‘ is the buzz word, if the MCU has to scale the peaks that it once did, it will have to undertake some herculean efforts. Creators will have to think out of the box while retaining the core that made the fans resonate with the movies. It is in this period that Simu Liu’s critically acclaimed Shang-Chi is all set to begin filming after a gargantuan delay in 2025. While some fans would be baffled, it doesn’t come as a shock to many. After all, this isn’t the most delayed MCU sequel out there.

Who's ready to start their midweek, Hump Day grind on a bit of a mixed note? The good news is that I'll never again use the phrase "Hump Day grind" because, frankly, that just sounds unbearably filthy. Okay, the real good news is that Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary Pictures continue to be in the business of making money and remain intent on keeping their kaiju-sized MonsterVerse movies going. The bad news, unfortunately, is that the next installment will have to do so without the involvement of director and writer Adam Wingard.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings made a solid $432 million when it opened in 2021. While that may look like a disappointing number on paper, the box office was still struggling massively in the closing months of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Regardless, with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, it remains one of Marvel Studios' best-reviewed Phase 4 titles and put Simu Liu on the map. Unfortunately, the character has been sidelined ever since and it's now been close to three years since we last saw Shang-Chi on our screens.
Destin Daniel Cretton is expected to helm a sequel - rumoured to be titled Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time - after moving on from Avengers 5. However, he's currently busy working on Disney+'s Wonder Man series, leaving us to wonder just how much of a priority the Shang-Chi follow-up is.
