The original 'Murder on the Blackpool Express' was quite a pleasant surprise of a film in all honesty and this sadly however is a bit of a step down from the first. Keeping the 'core' of the cast and switching up location and plot crux it's refreshong whilst still parodying the basis where it came frome. A bit rushed and less fun to some extent than its predecessor there's still a fair amount of charm intact, obviously no blockbuster but for an "English low budgeter" it's a decent try

Death on the Tyne is a 2018 television comedy murder mystery film that was originally on Gold TV now it's on BBC I PLAYER channel 2 . The second film after Murder on the Blackpool Express then on to Murder in Middlesbrough as the third instalment. Death on the Tyne following Terry, Gemma, Mildred and friends on an eventful overnight ferry. This one was better than the first television film I found it was more funnier. The storyline is silly and stupid but so funny, it's like black comedy. The film has lot of different stars and all very good in playing the characters. Johnny Vegas and Sian Gibson are very good I do like them. It's nice to watch a comedy and the fact it was so bloody funny. To much doom and gloom on tv we need more laughter. So if you want to watch something completely different that is light hearted very funny but stupid then you need to give this a watch. Death on the Tyne has amazing cast from Benidorm, Last Tango in Halifax and line of duty. It's fun, stupid, silly and hilarious. Get watching now on channel 2 on BBC I PLAYER.

Death on the Tyne is a passable comedy murder mystery following the (slightly) better Murder on the Blackpool Express that follows the misadventures of the hapless Draper's Tours company, but it should have been better. And it definitely should have been funnier. Part of the problem is that the Tyne in the title is a misnomer (Death on the Amsterdam Ferry would have been a more accurate title) and the cast is rather limited in scale, which gives the ship-board scenes a distinctly empty feeling (and visually suggests a low budget). It is of course meant to be silly, but it should then also be consistently funny, and it isn't. There are certainly quality actors on display (Sheila Reid is always great), with the addition of Johnny Vegas being, well, Johnny Vegas and Sian Gibson going for the comedy gurning route, usually in reaction to a less-than-hilarious Johnny Vegas quip or hapless routine. However, James Fleet (sporting a magnificently epic beard, and looking cool with it!) is good value and he clearly has fun playing a very different role from the likes of The Vicar of Dibley's Hugo Horton. So, a reasonable time-filler after a busy day, but it is a series that needs to be quietly murdered off-screen, and the Draper's coach must be sent to the scrapyard, ASAP.
Those of you confused by the title are unaware that's Johnny Vegas' name. He's not funny and he has up until now displayed no talent other than being loud and fat, but this was good. The setting was a poor choice not because of the plot but the shoestring budget that on a massive ship that was showed multiple times had a crew of 6 and had a total of around 10 passengers both figures are legitimate not decreased for effect. The same actor who was only portraying one person was the ships greeter, DJ, the single Black Jack dealer on the single gaming table in the giant cruise ships casino and to his role as MC of the singing machine. The walls of the "ship" staircase were clearly concrete blocks. And with all that i still enjoyed it and the other 2 movies like this are quite good as well. The UK tv mystery movie is a staple and while the money spent is tiny compared to any Agatha Christie adaptation the sense of humor especially during recreations of crimes some accurate some misinterpretations of events are staged effectively and enjoyably. If you get past the incredibly tiny budget and enjoy the story it's a lot of fun.

I really don't like this film at all. It is a very ill-thought-out storyline, which doesn't make much sense. Much of the 'jokes' aren't funny, some of the scenes are cringy and hard to watch and most of all, the characters are over exaggerated, making them seem completely unrealistic.
It is a shame, because the actors/actresses who were cast for this film are definitely good, but the script is rubbish. I'm confused as to what the writers were trying to achieve with this film, because I'm really not sure what is so comedic about a serial murderer. In my opinion, it's best to stick to one or the other: comedy or whodunit.

Cheesy and camp murder mystery comedy set on a ferry crossing from England to the Netherlands. Light on cast members - but the ones they have do a decent job though. Plenty of twists to keep you guessing. An innocent enough family friendly film to keep you busy on a slow Sunday. Don't expect anything highbrow here. 6/10

What a thorough waste of a great cast. An absolutely dire script for a very flimsy story set aboard a North Sea ferry(which bore no resemblance whatsoever to any ferry I've been on!)
Awful.

If you saw murder on the Blackpool express- you knew what to expect. It was silly, daft, mad fun in the way of a carry-on film. Terrific cast too- and I had a laugh. It was very much as I expected. As a veteran of North Shields ferries to Holland- the hen-night could have been rowdier. ;)

I can't imagine this set out to be a great work of art but I found it really enjoyable. What's more, the cast seemed to be having a good time. If they do a third in the series I will be sure to watch.

Cardboard characters, cartoon situations, awful dialogue. Even the title is rubbish!

Movie is boring at best. Slow moving. Not a comedy at all-not funny. Plot is predictable and dull. Coarse humor and just dumb. Don't waste your time. Some good actors are put to shame by being in this film.

The previous 'Murder on the Blackpool Express' was average but this show was absolutely appalling and had no redeeming features, not even one memorable bit. With a relatively competent cast the script was lacking in every respect, nothing good can be said about the plot, well there wasn't one really. The cast did their best with the script but once again it was so bad it was untrue.
My recommendation is to save two hours of your life and miss this one.

Didn't think much of the first one and this looked even worse. Couldn't watch it all. Waste of everyone's time imo..

Good script, good cast and overall a good 90mins. It's not trying to win a BAFTA or be anything it's not. Puts me in mind of Benidorm or a Carry On spoof.
Well that was a waste of 2 hours. It was badly written and a waste of good actors. The script was pointless. Child of 2 could have written it better. It was trying to be the titanic crossed with Mid summer murders but failed. Please don't Make another one.

What absolute drivel, 82 minutes of my life I won't get back, I kept watching hoping it would get better, it didn't. I would have expected so much more from a great cast like this, but at best it felt like watching amateur theatre. I couldn't work out if it was bad writing, production or directing or just a mixture of absolutely everything being off. There wasn't even a mystery to work out! In short, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and I'm surprised it even made it to air, what a load of old rubbish, hopefully the cast aren't too embarrassed of what has been produced, personally I'd be mortified.
Oh My God! Is it possible that movies can ever get worse than this one. I endured it on the tv tonight, as my partner wanted to watch the trilogy, for a laugh. Yeah, for a good laugh,,indeed.. What is even more hilarious is that some reviewers here have given this "comedy" movie ten stars. Really? Have I then missed something this finny? Have I actually missed the subtle and witty humour embedded in its dire scenario set on a North Sea ferry on its way from Newcastle to Amsterdam. Perhaps, I should give the movie another chance, the benefit of the doubt(!), and watch it again when the opportunity arises, just in case I have been a little too hasty in criticising it.

Reminds me of the "Carry On" movies...pretty good, gentle humor. And my niece (Tracy) was awesome in it, too!

The original one of these was good fun, so you can see why they tried to repeat the trick here.
However, the novelty factor is a bit less this time around, and the plot is quite slow, not helped of course by the ad breaks.
Everyone seems to be enjoying hamming it up, and Sian Gibson as ever is lovely, but this was a bit of a slog.

I am absolutely shocked with the low rating of this film. It is an amazing film, and well written. It had lots of stars I knew (Sheila Reid, Tony Gardner and many more). I think the bad reviews are because people clearly don't know the definition of the word 'comedy', if you want a serious murder mystery, get over to NCIS or Criminal Minds and stop throwing all the good work from everyone involved in the making of this.

Watched it on the off chance Sian was half as funny as she was in Car Share! Obviously not written by the amazingly talented Peter Kay.
Silly plot and it's very Benidorm which I'm not really keen on. To compare this with a Carry On film is insulting to all the Carry On team! It's embarrassing and a cringe watch.

I have given this 3 stars as i think sian gibson is sensational and i would watch any programme she is in; sadly there is nothing else to commend this offering, its a comedy that is not funny and a mystery minus intrigue.
If you liked Hi de hi then this might be your cup of tea; i did not.
