Throughout her already prolific career, producer/actor Margot Robbie has proven herself to have a taste that's as discerning as it is eclectic. Most actors attempt to demonstrate their ability to take on as large of a range of projects as possible, yet the demands of the business and marketing sides of the film industry usually see them typecast in some form, usually in a genre if not a specific type of role. This is why Robbie's career is worth pointing out for how diverse it is; she's been able to find a niche for herself that has allowed her to easily move between action films, dramas, period pieces like "Mary Queen Of Scots," comedies, genre flicks, and prestige pics, all while growing her A-list status and not being relegated to either an awards-bait character actor or a paycheck-bait comic book movie star. As a producer, she's demonstrated a steady...

‘A Different Man’ (2024) stands as one of the most emotionally gripping films of the year, pushing the boundaries of character transformation and identity with a visceral and unapologetic approach. Directed by Aaron Schimberg, known for his previous explorations of disfigurement and otherness, the film continues to explore the alienation of individuals who society deems "different." This time, Schimberg tackles a narrative that feels both personal and universal, underscored by the powerful performances of its lead actors. 'A Different Man' not only manages to provoke conversations about the body, identity, and societal judgment, but it also delves into how our perceptions of ourselves shift over time. The film follows Edward, played by Sebastian Stan, a man with neurofibromatosis who undergoes reconstructive surgery in an effort to escape his disfigured past and begin a new life. After his surgery, Edward becomes obsessed with an actor, Oswald (Adam Pearson), who portrays...

Being in the movie industry comes with a risk of being overthrown by other actors who star in bigger projects, and there is a slight fear that Chris Evans might be wasting his potential on films that barely help him showcase what he’s capable of. Evans, who turned 43 earlier this year hasn’t had too many of his recent movies get much recognition, specifically, the ones done outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although Sebastian Stan has taken on the role of a lifetime with The Apprentice, he still holds a light for some of the roles he didn’t get.
The Golden Globe nominee, who portrays Donald Trump in the Ali Abbasi-helmed film, recently revealed that he was up for starring roles in Star Trek (2009) and Green Lantern (2011) years before playing the twice-impeached president.
“There were a couple of things I didn’t get that I really desperately wanted,” he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “But Captain Kirk for J.J. I remember I was really, really close, and I remember I had a screen test with [Abrams] at Paramount, and my manager had me do a separate photo shoot where I would try and replicate all these William Shatner pictures just to send to him, see how much I looked like him,...

Sebastian Stan is crediting Christian Bale for inspiring his unconventional roles.
Stan told GQ UK that fellow MCU star Bale was a guiding light early in his career.
“Watching Christian Bale do ‘The Fighter’ and watching him do ‘Batman’ and ‘Vice’ and ‘The Machinist’… He was a guy that, to me, could have made very conventional choices because he’s very good at any of it,” Stan said. “But then he’s trying these things.”
Stan has appeared in TV series such as “Gossip Girl” before making his indie debut with films like “I, Tonya,” “Fresh,” and “A Different Man.” The actor has also had a decade-long role in Marvel films with the “Captain America” franchise.
Stan also credited the versatility of Robert Downey Jr., who will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom after playing Iron Man, for carving out yet another aspirational career path.

Sebastian Stan Worried He Would Be ‘Immediately Judged’ for ‘Gossip Girl’ During ‘I, Tonya’ Audition
Sebastian Stan didn’t want his “Gossip Girl” stint to make him to mainstream for the indie film world.
The actor told GQ UK that 12 years after first landing the part of Carter Baizen in the iconic original “Gossip Girl” series, he was fearful of being labeled as the “CW guy” when trying out for Neon’s 2017 Oscar winner “I, Tonya.” Stan was ultimately cast as Tonya Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly alongside Margot Robbie as the titular Olympian.
“I’m like, ‘I’m going to walk into that room and they’re going to see the taller guy, The CW guy.’ I felt like I was going to be immediately judged,” Stan admitted of the audition process for “I, Tonya.”
And even after landing the role, he was anxious about doing the tale justice.

DC Studios has found its “Supergirl” villain in Matthias Schoenaerts, who will play antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hills in the upcoming movie.
“I, Tonya” and “Cruella” filmmaker Craig Gillespie is set to direct. Playwright and screenwriter Ana Nogueira wrote the script.
Production on the film is set to begin in late 2024/early 2025 after DC Studios co-ceo and creative head James Gunn finishes shooting his “Superman” film, which is set for release in summer 2025. “House of the Dragon” star Milly Alcock will play the superheroine of Krypton in a story that will be adapted from Tom King’s 2022 DC comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”
In King’s graphic novel, Krem of the Yellow Hills triggers Supergirl’s pursuit after shooting her dog, which echoes the plot of the first “John Wick” movie.

It started with the most famous voice on the planet, the one that just won’t shut up.
Sebastian Stan, in real life, sounds very little like Donald Trump, whom he’s playing in the new film “The Apprentice.” Sure, they share a tristate accent — Stan has lived in the city for years and attended Rutgers University before launching his career — but he speaks with none of Trump’s emphasis on his own greatness. Trump dwells, Stan skitters. Trump attempts to draw topics together over lengthy stem-winders (what he recently called “the weave”), while Stan has a certain unwillingness to be pinned down, a desire to keep moving. It takes some coaxing to bring Stan, a man with the upright bearing and square jaw of a matinee idol, to speak about his own process — how hard he worked to conjure a sense Trump, and how he sought to bring out...

Paramount Pictures has announced plans to adapt the 2019 bestseller, Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You. Josh Boone is set to direct and Allison Williams is set to star in the film. It’s believed the studio wants to replicate the success of It Ends with Us.
Hoover’s Work Has Already Proved Successful At The Movies
Regretting You revolves around the fallout of a tragedy. Morgan Grant wants her daughter Clara to avoid the mistakes she made in life while her husband Chris plays peacemaker. Things take a turn, however, when Chris gets involved in an accident, leaving Morgan and Clara to rebuild.

Hoover’s work has already proven to be a potential hit maker. Her 2016 book It Ends with Us saw a film adaptation in 2024, which proved to be a sleeper hit. The film also notably featured Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar, and Justin Baldoni, who also served as a director.

The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival was a success on many fronts, launching many titles into the marketplace looking for buyers, and others into the fall season, including the usual spate of Oscar contenders. But the festival continues to contract, with empty seats in the largest houses.
Many sales titles weren’t scooped up quickly. According to buyers, many were demanding too much money, which should eventually shake out. David Gordon Green’s opening night family movie “Nutcrackers,” starring Ben Stiller, found a home at Hulu, and Paramount just picked up Munich Olympic Games thriller “September 5” for November release, promising an Oscar campaign.
Surprisingly, “The Life of Chuck,” without a distributor, won the People’s Choice Award that usually leads to a Best Picture Oscar nomination and occasionally an actual win. The likelihood that the film will instantly become an Oscar contender the way “American Fiction” did last year remains slim.

With his sophomore outing, “The Luckiest Man in America,” Colombian filmmaker Samir Oliveros asks a simple question: How far would you go to make a better life for yourself and those around you? The way he chooses to answer it, however, turns out to be far more complex, made all the more intriguing by virtue of the fact that this contemporary tall tale is largely based in truth. Set in 1984 and taking place almost entirely within the confines of CBS‘s Television City studios, this biographical thriller follows the story of Michael Larson, an unemployed ice cream truck driver who manages to earn a spot on the game show “Press Your Luck” and beats the odds to receive the biggest payout ever. How he did so is what makes this stranger-than-fiction narrative so compelling. This and, of course, the very talented cast bringing this legendary episode of television back to life.

Pure Fiction: The Black List Offers New Novelists A New Avenue To Publication, TV & Film Adaptations
Over three months before the 20th edition of The Black List hits inboxes all over town, the Franklin Leonard founded platform is broadening its horizon into novels.
“The Black List’s core mission has always been discovering, supporting, and amplifying exceptional writing–providing it with the platform and visibility that it deserves based on its merit,” said Leonard today of the move into fiction with manuscript submissions and connections to the world of adaptation for TV and film. “Expanding into fiction is a natural progression.
“Right now, there are brilliant writers around the world who don’t have access to high-quality, accountable feedback, and whose work goes unseen for reasons entirely unrelated to how good it is,” the Black List CEO adds. “That’s a massive market failure, and it changes today. The Donald Trump biopic "The Apprentice" is going to open in theaters this fall, just in time for an awards season run. This, despite the fact that the film has caused a fair amount of controversy following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The film stars Sebastian Stan as the former president of the United States. Controversy or no controversy, it appears Stan is going to be in the Oscar race after all.

The recently released film adaption of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel “It End with Us” was a lot of things and has certainly gotten a lot of people talking. It’s unfortunate, however, that the most important subjects at its center — that of domestic violence and emotional abuse — have not been top-of-mind for most conversations regarding the film, but rather alleged personal riffs between star Blake Lively and director/co-star Justin Baldoni. When domestic violence and abuse have been discussed in reference to the film, it has typically been with criticism over how the film and its rollout have avoided more thoughtfully grappling with these themes, rarely reaching for a narrative that goes any deeper than a casual beach read.

Margot Robbie is one of the most dedicated actresses today in the sense that she always delivers, even if it means she has to endure pain or injury. Her movie roles usually involve physical activities, and when she starred in 2017’s I, Tonya, she proved that she deserved her Oscar nomination.

Filming for sports drama usually entails rigorous training that comes with a price. Robbie had an injury while ice skating, but she did not let it get in the way of finishing the movie within the deadline.

The award-winning I, Tonya movie not only propelled Margot Robbie’s career to new heights but also earned her the respect of her colleagues. For someone who grew up skating on hockey skates, the actress had to adjust and learn to figure skate using longer blades.

Though she is facing a defamation suit, Rebel Wilson isn’t backing down.
The “Pitch Perfect” actress fired back at the producers of her directorial debut “The Deb” after they filed an amended complaint on Monday evening. In an Instagram story, Wilson took aim at Len Blavatnik, the billionaire whose AI Film financed the coming-of-age musical.
“Len Blavatnik, please stop funding and protecting Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden,” Wilson wrote. “Clearly these recent press articles and constant retaliations against me for speaking the truth on my small Australian movie are False. All I did was tell the truth about these absolute fuckwits’ – now they launch a bogus defamation suit and bogus articles to inflict further harm.”
Blavatnik declined comment. Wilson declined further comment.

When Margot Robbie Revealed Not Knowing The Definition Of S*xual Harassment(Photo Credit – Instagram)
Women face sexual harassment almost daily, and this is common everywhere. However, some people do not know which things or activities could be labeled as sexual harassment. As a result, some predators get away. Barbie star Margot Robbie once admitted that she was unaware of what it meant until she did this Oscar-winning movie.
Robbie is an excellent actress and one of the highest-paid ones, too. In 2017, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Last year, she was the highest-paid actress because of her cultural phenomenon of a movie, Barbie. It was one of last year’s biggest films, earning over $1.4 billion globally, and it completed a year yesterday. It was released on the same day as Oppenheimer, and the phenomenon was collectively termed as Barbenheimer.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Neon's buzzy horror flick "Longlegs" has instantly become one of the biggest box office surprises of the year. It simply cannot be overstated just how shocking it is that this particular movie did what it did in its first weekend in theaters. For a studio that has only ever had five movies make more than $10 million domestically at the box office during the entirety of their theatrical runs, a debut north of $20 million on opening weekend is downright staggering. Yet, that's precisely what happened.
Hailing from director Oz Perkins, "Longlegs" pulled in $22.6 million this past weekend domestically, absolutely obliterating even the most optimistic projections. It even blew past Apple and Sony's much flashier "Fly Me to the Moon," which opened to $10 million against a $100 million budget. To be perfectly clear, even if "Longlegs" had made one third of what it made,...

This weekend was projected to be a breather in between massive openings for “Despicable Me 4” (Universal) and “Twisters” (Universal)/“Deadpool and Wolverine” (Disney) the following two weeks. It sort of worked out that way, but not the way it was expected.
“Longlegs” (Neon) and “Fly Me to the Moon” (Sony) were projected to come in second and third this weekend with a combined $30 million-$35 million. That part happened. But Apple’s rom-com with Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum was expected to take second, perhaps at least $15 million (earlier projections higher), while Oz Perkins’ distinctive horror-thriller starring Nicolas Cage was felt to be $10 million or more.
Instead, “Longlegs” took second with $22.6 million, while “Fly” is initially placed at $10 million (others have it lower), and only in fifth place. Both are striking results.
With a budget including marketing under $10 million, “Longlegs” has grossed more in only one weekend than all but...

Women like Mary Pickford walked so that stars like Margot Robbie could run.
The lamentable pitfall of pay disparity remains perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of Hollywood even today. Admittedly, the film industry has made giant leaps by shedding its old, orthodox ways and transforming into a more rejuvenated version of itself. But there’s still much ground to cover when it comes to gender pay parity and sundry other such important issues.

Despite the tide of change yet to wash over showbiz, it’s thanks to pioneers like Pickford and Alice Guy-Blaché (the first woman to take over the director’s chair), that the industry has come this close in bridging the gap between the unjust treatment of male and female actors and filmmakers.

Despite a tumultuous Paramount-Skydance merger, some box office blunders and a painful presidential debate, the summer of 2024 may go down as the summer of Paul Walter Hauser.
Hauser began his career as a journeyman actor, playing supporting roles in popular films such as “Cruella,” “I, Tonya,” “BlacKkKlansman” and “Da 5 Bloods.” In 2019, he landed his first major leading role in Clint Eastwood’s drama “Richard Jewell,” and four years later, Hauser scored an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance as Larry Hall in the Apple TV+ series “Blackbird.”
But starting in March 2024, a flurry of projects starring Hauser were unveiled. In a matter of weeks, it was announced that Hauser would star in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four,” an untitled Chris Farley biopic, a “Naked Gun” reboot, “Press Your Luck,” the Mark Wahlberg action-comedy “Balls Up” and the Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere.” He also voiced Embarrassment in “Inside Out 2,...

Margot Robbie, the star of Barbie and an Academy Award-nominated actress, is expecting her first child with her husband, film producer Tom Ackerley, as confirmed by several media reports. Speculation about her pregnancy began after photos from her vacation in Italy went viral.
In the pictures, taken during a boat ride on Lake Como, Margot Robbie was seen wearing a white crop top, black low-rise pants, and an oversized blazer that revealed a baby bump. Tom Ackerley opted for a casual look with a beige shirt and brown pants.
A user named Daily Leo DiCaprio shared the photos on X and captioned, “Congrats to Margot & her husband if the rumours are true about her being pregnant with her first child”

The first half of 2024 was not as kind to horror at the box office as it has been in recent years. In the pandemic era, horror had been arguably the most reliable genre around, particularly in 2022 and 2023. It wasn't until the blockbuster opening barely posted by "A Quiet Place: Day One" that a genre flick truly broke out this year. The question is, can Neon keep the hot streak alive when director Oz Perkins' "Longlegs" hits theaters? Hailed as one of the scariest movies of the year with near-universal praise from critics, it is certainly well positioned to do so, but it is going to be all about managing expectations.
It's important to understand that this was never going to be the kind of movie to make $20 million on opening weekend. It's a small movie hoping to do well for itself against a small budget, most likely in the $10 million range.

She’s played a sexually harassed Fox News anchor, a feisty, determined and ill-fated figure skater, a comic book misfit, an aspiring con artist, a wildly ambitious 1920s sexpot, a hardcore Wall Street wife, Queen Elizabeth I – and actress Sharon Tate. Whatever the role calls for, Margot Robbie has risen to the challenge, stealing scenes and hearts and growing into a bonafide movie star while working alongside, and for, some of Hollywood’s finest actors and filmmakers. Born July 2, 1990 in Dalby, Queensland, Australia, Robbie has steadily built her resume’ over the course of 15 years, rising from TV series guest spots to feature starring roles that put her alongside the likes of Christian Bale and Brad Pitt in two movies released in 2022, “Amsterdam” and “Babylon,” respectively. And “Barbie” became one of the biggest movies of 2023.

A year before Will Smith and Margot Robbie co-starred in "Suicide Squad," they teamed up for a crime caper that fared a lot better critically than David Ayer's ill-fated supervillain team-up. These days, Robbie is riding high after "Barbie" became the highest-grossing movie of 2023. The Aussie star will soon follow up that success with a starring role opposite Colin Farrell in Kogonada's "A Big Bold Beautiful Journey," not to mention the slew of films her production company, LuckyChap, has lined up.
Smith, meanwhile, hasn't been in the public eye as much in recent years, following what was a disastrous 2022 for the actor. His upcoming role alongside Martin Lawrence in "Bad Boys: Ride of Die" — the trailer for which looks like it will please longtime franchise fans — will be a real test for the actor, and should give a good indication on how the general public are feeling about Smith...

Margot Robbie has conquered the film industry, and now she has her eyes set on the lucrative gin market, with the launch of her own tipple.
Along with her husband and business partner Tom Ackerley, as well as three other friends, Robbie has launched Papa Salt, and she says selling gin is easier than selling a movie.
The star and producer of Barbie, which brought in $1.4billion told The Times of London she found the process of creating and marketing her gin “refreshing,” explaining:
“Movies are a crazy business where you are selling something that isn’t tangible, it’s an idea. You have no idea how much it’s going to make, who’s going to see it, if they’ll see it or how it will be received.

When it comes to independent film companies, A24 is usually the first to come to mind, but there are other ones that are promoting independent films – Neon, for example.
This is a fairly young studio, founded in 2017, but it has already managed to release several of its own projects. As well as a large number of festival hits and indie films, including Parasite, I, Tonya, Triangle of Sadness and Anatomy of a Fall. Last year, Neon acquired the distribution rights to another film with an intricate plot and took a rather unusual approach to promoting it.

For teenage tennis prodigy Julie, discipline isn’t merely a virtue but a survival strategy. Repressing adolescent urges and emotional swings has long been part of her routine at the high-level youth tennis academy where she’s currently the star student: Years of concentrating all her time and attention on her game — all work and all play, as it were — look likely to reward her with the pro career she dreams of. Yet as whispers build of inappropriate behavior by her coach, Julie’s deliberate tunnel vision seems less a rigorous regimen than a fragile defense against interior collapse. A tense, taut, artfully hushed debut feature by Belgian writer-director Leonardo van Dijl, “Julie Keeps Quiet” also knows the value of control — though its own calm is fraught with anxiety and anger.

Hits from the weekend
Streaming movies and shows made up the majority of the top five titles this past weekend, based on traffic to their IMDb pages. That’s thanks to a trio of Netflix titles and the new Star Wars series, “The Acolyte.” In theaters, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s fourth installment in the Bad Boys franchise delivered Hollywood a much-needed box office win, while ‘The Watchers’—the mystery-horror film starring Dakota Fanning—drew enough interest to land in the top 10.
By the time ‘Hit Man’ dropped on Netflix, movie fans were probably well aware of who Glen Powell was, but the popularity of the comedic action film brought more IMDb users’ attention to co-star Adria Arjona and director Richard Linklater. If Arjona looked familiar to viewers, it’s likely from several supporting roles in other streaming hits like “Good Omens,” “Andor,” and ‘6 Underground’ with Ryan Reynolds.
It’s not often that directors crack the top five (or even top 10) names on IMDb, but viewers were clearly interested to know more about Richard Linklater, the versatile and irreverent director of indie films like ‘Slacker’ and ‘Dazed and Confused,’ who also found mainstream recognition with ‘School of Rock.’
Also big on Netflix were the French killer shark movie ‘Under Paris’ and the Benedict Cumberbatch miniseries “Eric,” which released all six episodes two weeks ago. Elsewhere in streaming, “The Acolyte” has had no trouble finding its audience on Disney+. According to Disney, the show drew 4.8 million viewers on its first day, making it the streamer’s biggest hit of 2024 to date. Amandla Stenberg and Dafne Keen were in the top five names on IMDb, and both will likely remain popular through the show’s first season, which ends on July 16.
What’s in store for the coming week?
Expect next weekend to be all about “The Boys,” the raunchy comic book adaptation from showrunner Eric Kripke. The first three episodes of Season 4 arrive Thursday (6/13) on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping weekly. Returning cast members Karl Urban, Antony Starr, and Erin Moriarty will likely climb IMDb’s STARmeter, but a few new supes on the scene could put some breakouts in the spotlight, such as Valorie Curry (playing Firecracker) or Susan Heyward (as Sister Sage).
In theaters, Disney and Pixar’s animated ‘Inside Out 2’ is a shoo-in to win next weekend’s box office, though it may not have the same interest on IMDb as the streaming releases. The original voice cast of emotions are returning, but it’s more likely one of the newcomers will spike in popularity, like Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) as Anxiety, Ayo Edibiri (“The Bear”) as Envy, or Paul Walter Houser (‘I, Tonya,’ ‘Richard Jewell’) as Embarrassment.

Pixar has been one of the premiere names in animation ever since the first "Toy Story" released in 1995, changing the game forever. Disney's beloved animation company was also one of the true Hollywood box office titans, with pretty much everything Pixar touched turning to gold, though "The Good Dinosaur" serves as a rare exception to the rule. Unfortunately, the pandemic changed all of that, and Pixar has had a rough time recovering, with "Lightyear" bombing badly after several of the studio's originals went straight to Disney+. "Inside Out 2" aims to change the narrative next weekend and bring the studio back to its dominant place at the top of the box office charts.

Martin Scorsese is one of the few industry vets who has been around for several decades hitting the audience with brilliant movies and sweeping all the prestigious awards, so his praise is nothing but a real golden ticket to overall success in Hollywood.

Of all the various actors who've made their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sebastian Stan might be the one who's chosen the most interesting career path upon stepping outside of the superhero limelight. Stan hasn't exactly shied away from some of the more challenging and, occasionally, downright controversial roles out there, arguably beginning this little streak of sorts with director Craig Gillespie's "I, Tonya" in 2017. He followed this up with a supporting turn in Karyn Kusama's brutal "Destroyer," the bizarre horror/comedy "Fresh" (let's just say that movie packs a bite), and, of course, his Emmy-nominated performance as Tommy Lee in "Pam & Tommy," the Pamela Anderson-centric Hulu miniseries that stirred up no headlines whatsoever.
Not content to rest on his laurels, Stan promptly went and attached himself to a role that likely gave his agent no shortage of heart palpitations: a movie about Donald Trump's rise to infamy.

However, despite the filmmaker having a track record of significant female-led hits, some of the fans have raised concern over a male filmmaker leading the project, arguing that a female director would have potentially been more suitable to bring Kara Zor-el’s adventures to life on screen.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films may currently be in production on the first of the studio’s rebooted and reimagined superhero franchise pictures, but that doesn’t mean executives can’t make announcements about the second one.
“Supergirl: World of Tomorrow” will hit theaters (and IMAX) on June 26, 2026, as per reports. Milly Alcock, the 24-year-old Australian actress, will play Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, also known as Kara Danvers, the cousin of Kal-El, the Last Son of Krypton, also known as Kal-El, also known as Clark Kent, also known as Superman. Kara Zor-El, by the way, should not be confused with Kara Zor-l, also known as Karen Starr, also known as Power Girl, who is also Superman’s cousin, but, like, from a different universe. It’s complicated. Alcock is best known for the part of Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in “House of the Dragon.”

Protagonist Pictures has unveiled the drama-thriller — from Plenty Good in co-production with Fabula — alongside a first look image and will handle international sales, while CAA Media Finance represents North American rights.
Set in 1984, “Press Your Luck” follows Larson, an unemployed truck driver from Ohio who stepped onto the game show “Press Your Luck” harbouring a secret: the key to endless amounts of money.
