Daniel Craig is best known for his role as Agent 007 in the James Bond films. Starting with 2006’s Casino Royale, the actor played the role for fifteen years, ending his tenure with 2021’s No Time To Die. The actor was reportedly happy to exit the role and has since starred in Knives Out and will be seen in the upcoming Queer.
However, one film reportedly trumped his horror at playing Bond repeatedly. The actor spoke about the early scenes that director David Fincher showed from their collaboration The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Craig mentioned that he was horrified at the visuals and could not believe the free rein he got from the studio.

Netflix’s ‘Twilight of the Gods’ mixes Norse mythology with sex, magic, and extreme violence as its strives for a mythical quest that’s truly for mature audiences.
“The age of petty Gods must end.”
The past decade has been a goldmine for subversive tales about Gods and mythological warriors, whether it’s American Gods, Ragnarok, Kaos, or even YA fare like the Percy Jackson series. Additionally, animation has really run wild with this subject matter in both despondent action dramas like Blood of Zeus and farcical comedies like Krapopolis. This is certainly territory that feels right at home for a stylized filmmaker like Zack Snyder, who initially turned heads with his historical action epic, 300, only to tackle increasingly fantastical subject matter and repeated ruminations on the nature of “Gods.” In this sense, Twilight of the Gods feels like it’s been a long time coming for Snyder. It...

All episodes of Twilight of the Gods are now streaming on Netflix, and the review embargo for Zack Snyder's adult animated Norse mythology series lifted around the same time the show premiered.
This isn't always a great sign, but the first wave of reviews have been mostly very positive.
Snyder's work has rarely gone over well with critics, but his last Netflix collaboration - the Rebel Moon movies - really came in for a drubbing. So far, Twilight of the Gods has fared a lot better.
Though there are some negative verdicts, the majority of write-ups praise the animation style, world-building, voice-acting and bloody action - although it sounds like Snyder may have overindulged in the graphic violence and sex a little too much for some tastes.
Have a read through the reviews below, and we'll be sure to update once we have a Rotten Tomatoes score.

Zack Snyder's adult animated Norse mythology series, Twilight of the Gods, is set to premiere on Netflix on September 19, and the streamer has now released an action-packed final trailer.
This full-length promo spotlights plenty of bloody battles, as a mortal warrior named Sigrid enlists the aid of Loki (probably not a great idea) to wage war against Thor after the vengeful God of Thunder murders her entire family.
"In a mythical world of great battles, great deeds, and great despair, Leif (Stuart Martin), a mortal king, is saved on the battlefield by Sigrid (Sylvia Hoeks), an iron-willed warrior with whom he falls in love," reads the updated synopsis. "On their wedding night, Sigrid and Leif survive a wrath of terror from Thor (Pilou Asbæk), which sets them — and a crew of crusaders — on a merciless mission for vengeance, against all odds. This heroic story of love, loss, and revenge,...

This "blood, sex and dragons" promo makes it abundantly clear that this will not be a show for the whole family, as a mortal warrior named Sigrid wages war against Loki, Thor and all of their fellow Asgardian gods in extremely violent fashion while also taking care of some other business in the bedroom.

Disney blockbuster Alien: Romulus crawls into 676 cinemas at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, as the first title in the franchise since 2017’s Alien: Covenant.
Directed by Fede Alvarez, Alien: Romulus is set between the events of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens, and sees a group of young space colonists scavenging a derelict space station and coming face-to-face with a xenomorph alien.
Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues wrote the script, based on characters by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Civil War and Priscilla star Cailee Spaeny leads the cast, alongside Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced and Screen Stars of Tomorrow David Jonsson and Spike Fearn.

Fede Álvarez understands that there’s a thin line between an homage, a follow-up and a rip-off.
His first film, a remake of Sam Raimi’s “The Evil Dead,” leaned more heavily into the grueling horror of the 1981 low-budget original than its more comical 1986 predecessor, revitalizing the franchise in the process. After launching his own series with “Don’t Breathe,” he cowrote and directed “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” a sequel to David Fincher’s “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” which met with less success than his earlier work (or Fincher’s) but further established him as a versatile stylist capable of infusing a film with personality while adhering to studio boundaries.
Álvarez further puts that skillset to use on “Alien: Romulus,” the seventh film in the “Alien” franchise. In a franchise better defined by prequels, digressions and canonical side quests than a clear and straightforward timeline, he has...

Ahead of the August 16 release of Alien: Romulus, filmmaker Fede Álvarez caught up with Deadline at Comic-Con to tease what fans can expect from his installment of the revered sci-fi franchise, delving into his first meeting with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free, going for a younger cast, Hollywood’s current move back toward originals, and more.
Álvarez called his film “a pretty intense ride” — “45 years of great science fiction horror ideas, combined in two hours, plus more of the ones that I bring myself.”
His hope for the project, he said, was “to take the franchise back to its true form, in a way, to its original form — to be really honest about what this truly is and what the first movie was.” If you look back to Scott’s 1979 original Alien, he noted, the film was something that “terrified” everybody.

Netflix unveiled first looks at a whole host of its upcoming animated shows and features during an event on Thursday, and Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder was on hand to introduce the first footage from his Norse Mythology series, Twilight of the Gods.
“I love mythology,” said the filmmaker. "On a scale like this, I feel like animation was the greatest way to tell the story.”
First announced way back in 2019, it's taken quite a while to find its way to our screens, but we recently learned that the show will finally premiere on Netflix this Fall.
The project has been described as "Anime-influenced," but judging by these clips, we'd say the animation style has more in common with the Academy Award-nominated Cartoon Saloon studio.
“When most people think about animation, they think about Saturday morning cartoons, or G-rated movies,” said the presentation’s host, Christopher Sean. “But animation is...

Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy was a huge deal in the publishing world. The books kicked off with "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". When a book series generates as much heat as this one, the movies come calling. Sure enough, the entire original trilogy was adapted into three films in Sweden. Later, Hollywood took a stab at it, too, with English-language adaptations, but we'll get to those later. First, though, let's talk about the original trilogy and the correct order to watch it.

“You never know if they like you for who you are or what you are,” Anna Nicole Smith once said before she passed away from an accidental drug overdose in 2007. The makers of the “Saw” movies probably thought they were clever when they killed the villain off back in “Saw III.” But over time it’s become clear that, although Jigsaw’s many apprentices worked hard to keep his legacy alive, John Kramer — the raspy-voiced horror icon played by Tobin Bell — was the beating heart of this series, and that heart stopped.
Jigsaw is back in “Saw X,” but he’s also still dead. The film is one long prequel, taking place at an indeterminate time before most of the previous installments. It’s a little confusing to see Kramer drawing up plans for deathtraps that, as we learn later in the movie, he has already invented and used, but it’s a lot less confusing than the timelines of the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh films, which employed a dizzying flashback/flashforward/flashsideways structure that perhaps rivaled only “Last Year at Marienbad...

A new trailer starring Sir Ben Kingsley has been released for ‘Daliland.’ Coming from the director of ‘American Psycho,’ delving into a crucial period during the later years of legendary artist Salvador Dalí.
Amongst the decadence of 1970s New York, the great surrealist artist, Salvador Dali, enjoys the latter stage of his career with a lifestyle filled with luxury and extravagant parties. Surrounded by his decadence, and his band of eccentric followers who worship his charismatic persona, he is content with avoiding a fast-approaching art show and the demands of his formidable wife, Gala.
The story is told through the eyes of James Linton, a young gallery assistant, keen to make his name in the art world. After quickly becoming enraptured by the provocative world of Dali, the façade begins to fade when he uncovers that behind the glitz and glamour lies a fragile genius, haunted by the past and...

If all went according to plan, David Fincher was all set to follow his English-language remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. However, those sequel plans were cancelled when the movie didn’t generate the return the studio wanted.
David Fincher reflected on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo while speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival (via Entertainment Weekly), calling it a “swing and a miss.” Despite not getting to complete the trilogy, Fincher remains very “proud” of the first movie. “We did it the way that we could,” Fincher said. “And when people said it cost too much for what the return on investment was, I said, ‘Okay, swing and a miss.’“

With “Evil Dead Rise” earning good reviews (96% and 7.5/10 on Rotten Tomatoes) and solid buzz out of its SXSW premiere, New Line wasted no time in locking down director Lee Cronin’s next feature. Next up will be an original horror film, titled “Thaw,” for which Cronin will rewrite the current draft.
The picture, originally written by Jeremy Passmore, is set years after the polar ice caps have melted with concurrent rising sea levels. “Thaw” centers on a group of survivors at sea searching for a new home. They discover an inhabitable town only to realize… well this isn’t “Waterworld” folks.
Van Toffler and David Gale of Gunpowder & Sky as well as Adam Goldworm of Aperture, who produced HBO’s upcoming adaptation of Grady Hendrix’s novel “The Final Girl Support Group,” are producing.

Exclusive: Veteran Saw cast member Shawnee Smith is circling the newest installment in the billion-dollar horror franchise from Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, which is currently in production in Mexico City, Deadline hears.

A version of this story about the “Women Talking” first appeared in the Guilds & Critics Awards / Documentaries issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
“Women Talking,” author Miriam Toews’s 2018 novel, was inspired by a serial sexual assault case in Bolivia, where more than a hundred Mennonite women were tranquilized and raped by men in their secluded community. Hearing the gruesome real-life details, it’s easy to imagine the kind of true-crime sensation that the story might have made in lurid docuseries form.
But that was not what motivated actor-turned-director Sarah Polley (Away From Her) to helm this movie adaptation. “It’s not a film that’s detailing graphic sexual assault,” Polley said. “It’s about the impact on the women who have survived and how they want to move forward. It felt to me more like an epic story of hope, almost like a fable. The conversation in the film...

Despite the egregious snubbing of David Lowery's "The Green Knight" during last year's Academy Awards ceremony, real ones know that the film was one of the very best of 2021. The epic medieval fantasy film from A24 based on the 14th-century poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight," saw Dev Patel as King Arthur's nephew Gawain, who sets out on the ultimate journey to test his bravery and come face-to-face with the titular Green Knight.
The film is about to receive a special Blu-ray collector's edition (not to be confused with the 2021 Blu-ray release) next month, and according to our friends over at Collider, one of the included special features will be a 20-minute companion short film from Lowery called "The Oak Thorn & The Old Rose of Love." The short film will loosely connect to "The Green Knight," focusing on two characters that share knowledge in "unconventional ways."

Twenty-six years after making “I Shot Andy Warhol,” filmmaker Mary Harron returns to the late ’60s/early ’70s New York art world with “Dalíland,” this time with greater mastery and style. Ben Kingsley stars as Salvador Dalí, the eccentric Spanish surrealist artist who paraded around sporting a handlebar mustache and dressed like a 16th-century conquistador in the glam-rock era.
Harron dabbles in her own take on surrealism by converging Dalí’s romantic headspace and the ever-present decadent party scene. Her invocation of surrealism isn’t at all in Dalí’s style, which would be one way to approach the subject. But this definitely feels like her most layered and fully realized vision.
Like “I Shot Andy Warhol,” “Dalíland,” which premiered as the closing-night attraction at the Toronto International Film Festival, centers not on the artist himself but rather on someone peripheral in his circle. The film opens in 1985, as James...

It’s been 13 years since the Galactica reached Earth. We watched in the 2009 finale “Daybreak” as Admiral Adama, President Roslin, Apollo, Starbuck, Gaius Baltar, and Caprica Six walked towards a bright and unwritten future in their new home. It was a cathartic (but predictably divisive) ending to a six-year TV journey that remains one of the best and most influential in science fiction history. There’s no question that Battlestar Galactica paved the way for other serious, gritty political sci-fi dramas like The Expanse and the recently released Foundation adaptation.
But Battlestar Galactica‘s legacy is one thing. What about its future? That’s a question NBCUniversal has struggled to answer in the years since our heroes first touched down on our planet. A new “Alien” film is in the works at 20th Century Studios, with “Don’t Breathe” director Fede Alvarez set to helm the project, Variety has confirmed. Ridley Scott, the director of the original 1979 movie, is producing.
In addition to directorial duties, Alvarez is penning the script for the standalone film. Scott is producing via his Scott Free banner, and the movie is intended to stream on Hulu.
The original “Alien” follows the crew of a spacecraft who soon come into contact with a bloodthirsty extraterrestrial. The science fiction horror film starred Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto. Its major box office success spurred sequels and spinoffs, including “Aliens” (1986), “Alien 3” (1992) and “Alien Resurrection” (1997), as well as the “Alien vs. Predator” crossover films and “Prometheus” prequels. However, Alvarez’s project is a new take on the franchise and will be disconnected...

Georgian writer-director-producer Giga Agladze has been a musician, a documentarian and Caucasus regional director of the Transcendental Meditation-focused David Lynch Foundation. Yet none of those things has any obvious bearing on, or makes much sense of, his debut directorial feature—apart from Lynch being on board as a prominently billed executive producer.
Shot in 2019 Tbilisi with a largely British cast, “The Other Me” has Jim Sturgess as a man whose sudden-onset blindness is sometimes literal, sometimes metaphorical, sometimes both. That’s symptomatic of . Its cast struggling against material with little real-world or emotional logic, the attempted “surreal” elements uninspired both conceptually and aesthetically, this is a misfire whose intentions are as murky as its results are hapless. Gravitas Ventures is opening on 10 or more U.S. screens on Feb. 4, simultaneous with release to digital platforms.

Even before it was out of post production, Habit (not to be confused with the 2017 cannibal film of the same name), was stirring up controversy. According to Variety, it was the subject of a petition due to its casting. Specifically the casting of Paris, daughter of Michael, Jackson as a lesbian Jesus. Whether it was the product of legitimate outrage or a bit of marketing it certainly got Habit noticed. And since I’m reviewing it, it obviously didn’t stop its release. Although maybe it would have been better if it did rather than being responsible for it getting a distributor.
