Good little film!

Warning: Spoilers
I had never heard of this film but a friend recommended it. Apart from a couple of plot holes, I thought this was a charming little movie about life in one of the remotest parts of Scotland.

It really captured the isolation and poverty of a small coastal village in the early 1900s. The inhabitants had a really tough time trying to raise families and make ends meet, but never complained once. It also illustrated the power that individuals had over the community. The priest, the constable, the doctor and the "wise woman" acted without interference, but often drew the wrong conclusions.

And so to the 2 plot holes....spoiler alert.

There is no way Kirsty could be sure that the doctor raped her because of the whiskey on his breath. Every man at the road dance was knocking it back!

Kristy's attempted suicide was a bit daft. The fall and/or the temperature of the sea would have probably killed her. And how did her mum and sister get down the cliff so fast?

But apart from this, a very enjoyable film. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't predict the final scene. And hey, what's wrong with a happy ending? Kirsty sure deserved it after what she'd been through.
