I thought I would be watching a full on fantasy flick about killing giants only to discover it ain't that. It is a good movie reminding us of how fragile some of us are when the going gets tough. Some of us have a hard time coping and like so many we invent a world where we come out on top, winners, and heroes.
I'm not familiar with the comics but I read where the comics teach young kids how to deal with tragedy. Even adults need to learn this because for a lot of adults, drifting off into fantasy is replaced with drugs and alcohol or we just try to mentally run away from our problems and hope they'll go away on their own so we won't have to confront them.
This movie is worth the watch and Madison Wolfe did a fantastic job as Barbara. The only question I have is since it's Barbara's fantasy world where only she sees the giants then why does her friend Sophia notice what is quite clearly the humungous footprint of a giant in the forest?
Go ahead and give it a try. It may even bring a tear to your eye.
