RJ, a young trumpeter, is blindsided by the prospect of going to Columbia University. He is scheduled for an in-person interview, but instead prioritizes his audition at a legendary jazz club, The Velvet Room. RJ faces scrutiny from his father, Raheem, a former jazz piano player, who has lost his wife and has since become a lawyer. RJ and Raheem clash heads over what RJ's future holds - Jazz or Law?
