Snoop Dogg has made a career out of keeping things chill and is known for his smooth demeanor, laid-back lifestyle, and all-around cool persona. So, he’s the last person anyone would expect to hear publicly venting frustration about things, especially video games. However, that’s what happened a few weeks ago when the rap icon took to social media to slam Xbox for their long-standing server issues.

Álvaro Díaz’s creative vision has felt almost prophetic the last couple of years. In 2021, he released Felicilandia, an album that twisted reggaeton into all kinds of left-leaning directions, playing with pop-punk energy, Eighties synths, and rock guitars. Then, this April, he dropped Sayonara, a continuation of Felicilandia that pushed even deeper into off-kilter, futuristic beats and styles. All along, he’s been able to find sounds that have propelled the genre forward and introduced listeners to a new alternative lane in reggaeton.
Díaz got his start as a rapper in Puerto Rico’s underground.

A music genre born in the barrios of Puerto Rico permeated into the mainstream and up the charts. Its story is told through Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World, a new docuseries from Peacock. Executive producer and director Omar Acosta teamed up with Daddy Yankee to spotlight the cultural touchstones, evolution, and impact of Reggaeton. Daddy Yankee’s song Gasolina became a global phenomenon 20 years ago, solidifying him as the “King of Reggaeton.” Others who helped put the Latin, hip-hop, and Caribbean-infused sound on the map are also interviewed for the docuseries. Names like Bad Bunny, Feid, Ivy Queen, J. Balvin, Karol G, Myke Towers, Nicky Jam, Rauw Alejandro, Shaggy, Vico C. and more. Here Acosta provides insight on the making of the project and why it hits close to home. Bad Bunny performs onstage during the 2023 Grammy Awards (Kevin Winter/Staff) Reggaeton is often lumped together with other genres of music.

Over the last several weeks, fans of Latin music have been, in some cases, puzzled to see some of the biggest names in reggaeton publicly voice their support for former President Donald Trump’s run for president.
In early September, Anuel AA and Justin Quiles met the former president during a Pennsylvania rally. Just a few weeks later, Nicky Jam joined Trump, receiving stark backlash, including from Mexican rock band Maná who pulled their collaboration from streaming services.

The VMAs returned to New York this year to celebrate this year's biggest music stars in the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. Megan Thee Stallion did an amazing job hosting the Awards and delivering a show-stopping performance. Some of the biggest artists also got to perform: Chappell Roan made her awards show debut with a standout performance of her hit "Good Luck, Babe!" and she graced us with her “Roan of Arc” theme – which is a play with “Joan of Arc”. Sabrina Carpenter paid tribute to iconic pop culture blondes in her medley of "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Espresso". Karol G captivated the audience and got them dancing in her performance of “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido”. Katy Perry made a wonderful performance of some of her most iconic songs. The Award show featured performances by Rauw Alejandro, Benson Boone, Halsey, LL Cool J feat. Public Enemy, Lenny Kravitz feat.

If the staccato gallop of Dominican tambora seems especially prevalent lately, it might be because merengue is having a moment. In June, Karol G released “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” which is now vying for song-of-the-summer status. The effervescent smash joins other genre hits, like Bad Bunny’s beachy mambo “Después de la Playa” and Rosalía’s upbeat chart-topper “Despechá” as an example of merengue’s modern crossover upswing. However, these hits are sonically and geographically distant from the genre’s roots in the rural Cibao region of the Dominican Republic,...

“Do you know Nicky? She’s hot. Where’s Nicky?” Trump said from the stage while looking offstage to find him. Jam then arrived at the podium as Trump corrected his mistake: “Oh, look, I’m glad he came up.
