If you had any doubts that the series could thrive after Candace Cameron Bure's departure, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New allayed those fears.
De-aging the characters worked exceptionally well, and the most questionable choice -- to retain Marilu Henner as Aurora's mom, Aida -- gave the series an unexpected tether to the earlier episodes.
There's no doubt that this was a gamble that paid off handsomely for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Once upon a time, Bure was Hallmark royalty. There's a reason that she starred in 29 movies between the two networks, a record that will soon see Lacey Chabert, with 27, catching up and bypassing her.
Choosing a replacement for the longest-running mystery franchise couldn't have been easy with those big shoes to fill, but Skyler Samuels steps into the role perfectly.

One of Hallmark's most popular movie franchises is staging a comeback... without its leading lady.
Hallmark Movies & Mysteries announced Thursday it had picked up a new Aurora Teagarden Mysteries movie.
The flick becomes the 19th movie in the franchise, but the first without Candace Cameron Bure, who departed the cabler for a lucrative deal with Gac Family in 2022.
At the time, it seemed like the franchise was dead and buried, but the easiest way for the cabler to switch things up is to take a trip to the past with Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New.

Emma (Wynonna Earp‘s Kat Barrell) lives two Christmases over the holidays thanks to a little magic in her latest Hallmark movie. In A Tale of Two Christmases (premiering November 26), the aspiring architect misses her flight home and celebrates with her crush, Max (Evan Roderick) and his friends in Chicago. In a parallel universe she does make it home and enjoys holiday traditions with her family and longtime friend Drew (Chandler Massey) in Vermont. Barrell tells us more about the side-by-side storylines and what drew her to the role. The movie was so good and so fun. Kat Barrell: Oh, thank you so much. Yeah, I’m really proud of it. I love this tone that we struck with it. We really hit this fun kind of rom-com vibe, which I’m really excited about. I think we’re heading that way on Hallmark. There’s a few more [with] a...

8/7c Secrets of a Marine's Wife (Lifetime)
Summer of Secrets continues with another ripped from the headlines tale that will have you riveted.
Spinning Out's Evan Roderick stars as U. S. Marine Corporal Jon Corwin, who was married to 19-year-old Erin Corwin (Sadie Calvano), an expectant mother harboring a secret who suddenly went missing.
Her disappearance and eventual death shook a Marine base as the race to determine who killed her and why they took off, the first suspect being her husband and later a friend of whom she had an affair.
It's a hell of a story, tragically real too, and you won't want to miss it.

The original Doogie Howser starred Neil Patrick Harris, and aired on ABC from 1989 to 1993.
The rest of the cast will be announced at a later date.

The Netflix drama Spinning Out features some pretty incredible figure skating in its first season, so we're wondering if any of the actors, such as Kaya Scodelario, are really skating - or if they're using pro skaters as doubles. This wouldn't be the first time that actors underwent serious training for a role, but as you might expect, it's not always Scodelario pulling off Kat's impressive moves on the ice. In fact, Kat's skating prowess is the work of no fewer than five separate people!
In a tweet from December 2018, Scodelario referenced the skating training she did have to do. "Very excited to start work on this in the new year . . . Kat's story is so beautifully complicated and near to my heart. This isn't just girl meets boy . . . I promise. Now, time to train!! #mybuttsgoingtobesobruised #watchoutxmasicerinks." When your job entails watching several new shows a week, overlapping themes are inevitable. Still, similarities between shows are rarely as stark as those between the first seasons of Netflix’s “Spinning Out” (out Jan. 2) and USA’s “Dare Me” (which premiered Dec. 20). Both dramas focus on teen girls as restless as they are talented, a combination that serves them well in their respective competitive sports — figure skating for “Spinning Out,” cheerleading for “Dare Me” — and have them scrambling to survive in their daily lives. Both examine motherhood, and how adults can blur the lines in their relationships to the teenagers in their care to devastating effect. Both are pulpy and propulsive as they set their bleeding hearts on a silver platter for the audience to eat up. And yet,
“Spinning Out,” from Samantha Stratton, follows a family of three women, each determined, stubborn, and skilled in her own way.

A group of alligators is called a “congregation.” A bad movie about alligators is called “Crawl.”
If your experience with the film is anything like mine, you were first introduced to it via a trailer that’s been provoking unintentional laughter in movie theaters over the last few months. You shouldn’t judge a movie by its marketing, just as you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but suffice to say that Alexandre Aja’s thriller lives down to expectations.
It’s toothless despite its alligator antagonists, not least because it never bothers linking its premise — a category 5 hurricane in Florida that causes a flood — to the existential threat hastening such extreme weather events in the first place. There’s something strange, in 2019, about a movie like this positioning actual alligators as the villain and not, you know, climate change; that the term is never even mentioned seems deliberately myopic,...

The new horror film “Crawl” from Paramount Pictures is the story of a father and daughter trapped in a hurricane who find themselves hunted by vicious, monster-sized alligators.
Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper star in the latest film from “The Hills Have Eyes” director Alexandre Aja, and producers Sam Raimi and Craig Flores. And yes, the first trailer for the film is as predictably wild as you’d expect.
“Come on you son of a b—,” Scodelario screams as she hides within a bathtub as an alligator flails against the shower door.

Michael and Shawn Rasmussen wrote the film that Aja directs and also produces. Gregory Levasseur, Justin Bursch and Lauren Selig serve as executive producers.
As a public service announcement, the monsters in “Crawl” are in fact alligators and not crocodiles.
