Back in March, we heard that production had wrapped on the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which is coming our way from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Gretel & Hansel, and the upcoming Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs. Longlegs will be reaching theatres on July 12th, courtesy of Neon – and today, Neon has announced that they will be giving The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. So we’ll be getting two Osgood Perkins movies from Neon just seven months apart.

Perkins wrote the screenplay for The Monkey, working from a King short story. The film will tell the following story: When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them.

Crash begins with Kehlani Parrish tumbling through watery depths. “I’m kind of crazy,” they sing as a backing chorus trills lightly in a reflection of asphyxia. When they hit the ocean’s floor, the beat switches on “GrooveTheory” into a slow, sinuous cut, the kind that will be familiar to fans of the non-binary singer’s vibrant, iconoclastic past work, which has exerted a major influence on the queering of contemporary Black pop. “Come talk with me/Wanna get you open,” they sing.

What unfolds on Crash proves to be anything but formulaic.

James Wan has another horror universe in the making, and while it’s unfortunately not for 2021’s “Malignant,” this offshoot of “M3GAN” may be the next best thing. Deadline reports that Wan’s Atomic Monster banner and Blumhouse will team up again for “SOULM8TE,” a new spinoff to the early 2023 horror hit. It’ll be the third film in the “M3GAN” franchise, after “M3GAN 2.0,” which hits theaters next year on June 27, 2025.

It is handling world sales on “Qian Tang River,” directed by Wan Bo, and “Another Day of Hope,” by Liu Taifeng. Both are directorial debuts and both appear in the non-competitive Refreshing Chinese Cinema section.

Set in the 1950s at a site on the Qiantang River, which is notorious for its dangerous tides, “Qian Tang River,” chronicles three generations of a family, their beliefs, battles and failures. The cast isheaded by Wang Zheng, Chen Yunong, Liu Lu, Wang Yidi and Yao Anlian. Production of the Liu Yiying and Wan-scripted drama is by Gao Yujie. Cinematography is by Zhang Xing.

Chinese sales agent Parallax Films has taken worldwide rights to Wan Bo’s Qian Tang River, which will world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival (Siff).

The 1950s historical film is set along the titled river that runs through the Zhejiang province and is known for strong tides. The story follows a young man who gets swept away by the tides and ends up in a village where he witnesses the villagers’ struggle with tidal floods and their decision to build a dyke for reclamation.

Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, the recently-combined genre giants, will produce a new film from “Evil Dead Rise” director Lee Cronin at New Line Cinema.

Cronin will write and direct the top secret project, one that has been suggested will remain in his horror wheelhouse. The Irish filmmaker will also produce the project through his label Doppelgängers.

New Line, a Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group label, has dated the film for an April 2026 release. It marks the studio’s first collaboration with Jason Blum and Atomic Monster head James Wan.

Horror icon James Wan is producing a new series for Universal Studio Group (Usg) alongside showrunner Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) and Ingrid Bisu. Wan's company, Atomic Monster, will produce this latest iteration alongside Lab Brew. The original 1964 sitcom initially aired on CBS for 70 episodes from 1964 to 1966.

According to Variety, the logline for this new version of The Munsters describes it as a horror show that "lives and breathes within the Universal Monsterverse." Between this, the recent success of Abigail (which was based on Dracula's Daughter), and the upcoming Wolf Man from Leigh Whannell, it seems like Universal is intent on making their "Dark Universe" work, even if it doesn't end up being interconnected like the MCU.

Theo James (The White Lotus) stars in the movie with Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Attorney at Law), Elijah Wood (The Lord Of The Rings), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (The Hardy Boys) and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek). Osgood Perkins (Longlegs) directs and adapted the King story.

Multiple U.S. distributors came in hot for the project after its newest promo on the Croisette and we hear a deal settled in the high seven figures.

One of horror's most reliable franchises is coming back for a brand new installment next summer. While little has been revealed by way of specifics, Sony Pictures has dated "Insidious 6" for next summer. The film is now due to hit theaters on August 29, 2025, per Variety. Out of the many "Star Wars" shows that have come out of the Disney era, "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is arguably the weirdest. "You can't count it!" That's what producer Peter Safran said to Entertainment Weekly in 2023 about "The Curse of La Llorona" being part of The Conjuring Universe. Safran, who has helped to spearhead the very successful horror franchise alongside James Wan since 2013, did not leave any room for interpretation there. Yet, director Michael Chaves' successful 2019 feature directorial debut contains characters from "Conjuring" films, as well as overt references to events in those stories. Be that as it may, this movie now exists as both an unquestionable hit and a film that narratively exists in The Conjuring Universe but, for technical reasons, actually doesn't.

In the era of cinematic universes, it's an almost unprecedented situation. Why provide connective tissue if the plan isn't to connect these dots?...

Remember how the first Aquaman came out and was a colossal success? It really seemed like everything was finally on track for the character after years of jokes and abuse. Then tragedy…or well…insanity struck. The sequel was plagued with reshoots, scheduling conflicts, and an ever-changing landscape of the Dceu. Plus there’s the Amber Heard of it all, which has grown increasingly complicated. Today on DC Revisited, we’re getting into it all, as we dive into James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Before the first Aquaman had found massive success, Warner Bros was already hard at work on developing a sequel. Jason Momoa himself pitched a story to the studio, wanting to be more involved in the sequel’s development. This makes sense as Momoa really was the face of Aquaman and had shifted the perception of the character from a blonde man in tights...

Upon their release, the prequel trilogy was seen as a major step down from the original, which changed the sci-fi landscape in the ’70s. But following the rise of social media, the Ewan McGregor-led Star Wars flicks saw an upsurge in popularity, with fans showcasing their fondness for McGregor’s portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This would eventually push him to reprise the character in the 2022 Disney Plus show. But initially, after Revenge of the Sith, McGregor did not intend to return to the role following his experience with the critics.

While the Star Wars movies were a big thing for Ewan McGregor, who was enthralled to be a part of the iconic franchise, witnessing them getting critically panned took a big toll on him.

Created by Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s mythos is as complex as it can get, thanks to its fantasy theme. The world of the animated television series involves four nations, each with their own unique bending abilities: the Fire Nation, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, and Air Nomads.

Based on Aang, the last surviving Avatar capable of saving the Avatar world with his powers of bending all four elements, the story also focuses on Zuko. The exiled prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko shares a great bond with Aang. Set in an Asiatic setting involving several fictional elements, Avatar: The Last Airbender also involves elements like spirits and forms of spiritual magic.

It was going to be a difficult task to play Obi-Wan Kenobi after Alec Guinness’ incredible portrayal of the powerful Jedi but Ewan McGregor somehow managed to live up to the high expectations. A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.

Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.

Almost a year has gone by since it was announced that Theo James of The White Lotus had signed on to star in a Stephen King adaptation called The Monkey, coming from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Gretel & Hansel, and the upcoming Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs. Longlegs won’t be reaching theatres until July 12th, but Deadline reports that filming on The Monkey has already wrapped. Their report also revealed the names of several cast members who will be sharing the screen with James: Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Attorney at Law), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek).

When Inha came to meet the chairman, he said that he wanted Inha out of Kangoh and that he would soon be terminated. The chairman said that Taeoh had helped him identify Inha as the murderer of Inju.

A Wheel of Fortune contestant overcame the odds on Wednesday night (March 27) in spite of a “dumb rule” costing her a big chunk of money and a trip early in the episode. Many fans were furious about what happened and felt she was cheated out of a big win. The contestant in question was Emma Wan, a recently engaged former half-marathon runner from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wan got out to a hot start, picking up the Wildcard Wedge ahead of the Express Round, where she attempted to solve a seven-word “Phrase” puzzle. Wan answered the first part of the puzzle perfectly, but she took a pause in the middle before figuring out the rest. “Can’t See The Forest… Oh shoot,” she said before adding, “For The Trees.” Unfortunately for Wan, she wasn’t awarded the puzzle, as host Pat Sajak told her, “I’m getting a no from everybody,” referring to the producers’ decision.

The ninth episode of The Impossible Heir has several mysteries in store for us. Everyone is concerned when Taeoh goes missing from the prison, and it is revealed that Chairman Joongmoo has been helping him. The chairman had come to know of Inha’s ill motives and wanted Taeoh to help him save Kangoh. Meanwhile, Taeoh will try to find out the real culprit behind Inju and Bona’s murder and will realize that it was Inha. What will happen to Chairman Joongmoo? Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been released and became the unintentional conclusion of the Dceu after many delays and reshoots. The film had apparently undergone some trimming of Amber Heard‘s role in the aftermath of her messy defamation trial with her ex, Johnny Depp. There were also rumblings of bad early test screenings that had sent Warner Bros. into a panic, which drove them to order extensive reshoots. The original cut was rumored to feature cameos, including multiple Batmen, in which star Jason Momoa teased when the movie was in a vastly different incarnation.

One champion of James Wan‘s original cut was Dolph Lundgren — who portrays Nereus, the king of the Atlantean tribe of Xebel, and father to Mera, played by Amber Heard. Dolph Lundregn recently told ComicBook.com that a “really good” original cut of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” exists, but it’s not the one that fans got to see when the DC sequel opened in theaters over Christmas. To date, the sequel has earned $109 million at the domestic box office and $375 million worldwide — a far cry from the $1 billion the original “Aquaman” crossed to become the highest-grossing DC Universe film.

Lundregn appears in the “Aquaman” films as Nereus, the king of the Atlantean tribe of Xebel who also happens to be the father of Aquaman’s love interest Mera (Amber Heard). Mera’s role was drastically reduced for the sequel. Lundgren said that choice also resulted in him losing screen time since his character is so linked to hers.

It all started in 2004 as an idea conjured up by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, two bestie Australian filmmakers who were fresh out of film school and eager to make a name for themselves in Hollywood.

The first “Saw,” which Whannell wrote and Wan directed, premiered on Oct. 29, 2004. Whannell, who also starred as Adam in the first film, went on to direct the next two films. “Saw III” ended up becoming the highest-earning film from the franchise ($165 million globally), per The Numbers.
