The Netflix adaptation was renewed for two more seasons following the success of the first earlier this year, with the third being the final season.

Adapted from the popular Nickelodeon animated series, the show centers on Aang, the young Avatar, as he learns to master the four elements to restore balance to a world threatened by the terrifying Fire Nation.

“We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2. We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original, and explore some of the stories that the animation didn’t. Mainly — we’re looking forward to seeing our gang all together again,” Executive Producers and showrunners Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani shared in a statement.

Production is currently underway on Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender season two, and the streamer just announced new additions to the cast. The eight actors round out the ensemble of the much-anticipated second season of the fantasy series.

Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” live-action series has added eight actors to the cast of Season 2, Variety has learned exclusively.

The new cast members are: Chin Han, Hoa Xuande, Justin Chien, Amanda Zhou, Crystal Yu, Kelemete Misipeka, Lourdes Faberes, and Rekha Sharma.

Han will play Long Feng, who was the leader of Ba Sing Se secret police, the Dai Li, in the animated Nickelodeon series. Xuande will play Professor Zei, head of the anthropology department at Ba Sing Se University in the original series who was obsessed with finding Wan Shi Tong’s Library.

Chien will play King Kuei, ruler of the Earth Kingdom. Zhou will play Joo Dee, a public servant and guide for important visitors in Ba Sing Se. Yu will play Lady Beifong, Toph’s mother. Misipeka will play The Boulder, a professional earthbending wrestler. Faberes will play General Sung, a high-ranking Earth Army commander. Sharma...

Miya Cech (Surfside Girls) is officially on board season two of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Cech will be taking on the fan-favorite role of Toph, “a master earthbender who was born blind and trained to feel and sense the world around her.”

Cech’s casting was announced during Netflix’s Geeked Week Live celebration. The streamer also revealed that production is currently underway on the new season.

“I’ve been in boot camp for about a week and a half now and still have a lot of work to do, but it’s super fun. There’s groundbreaking — or rather earthbending — news from the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender:One of the franchise’s most beloved characters has been cast.

Miya Cech will star in Season 2 as Toph, a master earthbender who was born blind and trained to feel and sense the world around her. Executive producers Jabbar Raisani and Christine Boylan tell Tudum there were “thousands upon thousands” of auditions submitted for Toph, but they both immediately knew that Cech was a perfect fit.

Netflix’s live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is back in production for Season 2, with the streamer revealing that Miya Cech has been cast as the fan-favorite character Toph.

In a clip released as part of Netflix’s annual Geeked Week fan event, Toph’s feet are seen in closeup before she stomps down and demonstrates her earthbending.

The 17-year-old Cech is likely best known to audiences as the younger version of Ali Wong’s character in the Netflix romantic comedy “Always Be My Maybe,” released in 2019. Funnily enough, she also played a younger version of Ali Wong’s character in an episode of the Netflix series “Beef.” She also starred in Nickelodeon’s short-lived series “The Astronauts” and had a supporting role in last year’s coming-of-age comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”

Toph was first introduced in Book 2 of the original “Last Airbender” animated series.

As Comic-Con subsides, the news in pop culture entertainment isn’t over, as Netflix has now released a teaser trailer announcing the commencement of their new-ish yearly event — Geeked Week. Today Netflix announced that its fourth annual Geeked Week celebration will take place the week of September 16, culminating with a live, in-person fan event in Atlanta on the evening of Thursday, September 19. This is the first time Geeked Week will bring together fandoms from series, film and games at a live fan event. Tickets for the event will be available for purchase on September 3.

It comes after the show premiered on Netflix on February 22 and recorded 41.1M views in its first 11 days, topping its TV list for the last two weeks and being on track to enter its top ten most-watched list over its first three months.

The plan is to film these two seasons – Seasons 2 and 3 – in close succession in order to mitigate the fact that child actors tend to grow up quickly.

The series comes from Rideback, whose boss Dan Lin, an exec producer on the series, was recently named Netflix’s new film chief, replacing Scott Stuber.

The results are in, and Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender seems to be a hit.

The live action adaptation topped the streamer’s weekly English-language TV list with 21.2M views in its opening weekend. According to Netflix, it reached the Top 10 in 92 countries. It was edged out as most-watched title of the week by the Swedish natural disaster film The Abyss.

That’s a strong showing for the eight-episode series, which was another big swing for Netflix as it continues to dip its toes into anime-inspired content. In fact, Avatar managed to surpass One Piece in its debut weekend.

As with One Piece, Netflix was firing on all cylinders to launch the series, partnering with Serena Williams and even taking over the Las Vegas Sphere. So far, the Avatar global social campaign has reached 1.53B impressions, which is on par with both One Piece as well as Netflix’s hit series Wednesday.

Modern Hollywood has a problem of keeping their VFX artists on a time crunch, which often equates to subpar visuals, as they had to meet the deadline set by the studios. In recent years, this questionable practice has witnessed a spike, especially in the landscape of big-budget productions, and unfortunately, Netflix’s new Avatar: The Last Airbender was not immune to it.

While visuals in the Netflix show are mostly great, with fans claiming it’s one of its best aspects, it wasn’t until the night before its premiere that the VFX team was done working on them.

That’s how Gordon Cormier sums up the experience of playing Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender, in the scenes where he sat atop Appa, his trusty flying bison.

But how much of Aang’s journey through the sky on Appa’s back was really happening? Despite being in an era when computers can do just about anything for us, turns out it was more real than you’d think.

Executive producer Jabbar Raisani describes the setup in conversation with Tudum. “On set, there was a full-size Appa rig with the saddle and the head. The actors” — including Kiawentiio as Katara and Ian Ousley as Sokka — “would climb on top of it and ride 20 feet up in the air.”

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a beloved animated series that has a permanent spot in the hearts of fans around the world.

Unfortunately, like many animated series that get spun into live-action films or TV shows, there is a bit of concern online about whether or not the upcoming Netflix live-action series will be worth its salt.

Fans are worried, and for good reason.

The last time Avatar: The Last Airbender was adapted into a live-action film, the results were less than ideal. A lot of core themes of the show, including imperialism, loss, trauma, and corruption, were, for the most part, lost in the 2010 film.

Avatar is not a short series, either, so adapting Book One: Water to a film with less than a two-hour runtime naturally led to poor pacing, a rushed plot, and lackluster character development. Avatar is truly meant to be a series and a long one at that.

Tennis great Serena Williams is taking her game to the next level with the help of The Avatar. The Netflix live-action series is an adaptation of the award-winning and beloved Nickelodeon animated series of the same name. "Avatar: The Last Airbender" has a perfect pilot; even just the first half of the two-part premiere episode does an excellent job bringing viewers into the show's Asian-inspired fantasy world, a place where people can bend the four elements. The first episode also does a phenomenal job of setting up the series' story (a 12-year-old kid has to save the world), the personal stakes (the main character is the last of his nation), the larger state of the world (a 100-year-old war), the tone (fun! Silliness! Some rather dark moments!), the deeper lore, and, perhaps most importantly of all, the main characters.

Most of all, it does this without literally showing the events that kickstarted the war and made Aang the titular last Airbender. In the original series, we hear in the first episode that the Air Nomads haven't been seen in the 100 years since the Fire Nation attacked. While...

Fandom can be a thankless gig. You spend all this time thinking about your favorite shows, dreaming up theories, then sharing those interpretations to the world knowing you’ll likely never receive a response.

Sometimes, however, people are listening. And sometimes those people are the folks working on a live-action remake of the show you loved so much in the first place.

That is the situation that several super fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender are about to find themselves in. A Netflix live-action remake of Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series is set to release all eight of its episodes on Feb. 22. In advance of the premiere, EW just published a sprawling feature about Netflix’s efforts, including interviews with all of the show’s stars and many behind-the-camera figures. Kiawentiio is teasing the live-action Netflix adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender and is revealing some key changes to Sokka.

When adapting the animated series into live-action, the writers chose to remove the “sexist” elements of the character portrayed by Ian Ousley.

“There’s more weight with realism in every way,” Ousley said in an interview with EW about the remake, with co-star Kiawentiio chiming in and adding, “I feel like we also took out the element of how sexist [Sokka] was. I feel like there were a lot of moments in the original show that were iffy.”

Ousley continued, “Yeah, totally. There are things that were redirected just because it might play a little differently [in live action].”

The publication noted that there are Reddit threads that are dedicated to pointing out Sokka’s sexist remarks with the character saying things like, “Girls are better at fixing pants than guys, and guys are better at hunting and fighting.

The Paley Center has announced the schedule for its 41st annual PaleyFast LA, which includes “The Morning Show,” “Loki” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”

This year’s PaleyFest will take place from April 12 to April 20 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and as usual, features screenings of never-before-seen TV footage and conversations with series stars.

“We’re thrilled and honored to bring ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ to PaleyFest this year, and we look forward to discussing bending, the Four Nations, and, of course, cabbages with all of you,” showrunner and writer Albert Kim said in a statement.

“The Morning Show” will kick off the festival with a conversation with its cast and producers, followed by events honoring “Loki,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Young Sheldon,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “Family Guy” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

The cast of The Morning Show will help kick off the 41st Annual Paleyfest set to run April 12 through April 20, 2024. The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood hosts the television festival which will once again feature special screenings and new TV footage.

Only Aang can save the world from the Fire Nation in the full trailer for Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. The two-minute trailer provides a good look at the live-action series’ fight sequences and visual effects. It also introduces the world of the Avatar to audiences who didn’t catch Nickelodeon’s award-winning animated series.

“Avatar is an epic fantasy set in a world inspired by Asian and Indigenous folklore, culture and legend. In this world there are four nations which correspond to the four classical elements: water, earth, fire, air. Certain people in the world can manipulate those elements using a power known as ‘bending,'” says Albert Kim, writer, executive producer, and showrunner, describing the plot. “At the start of our story, the Fire Nation has embarked on a campaign to conquer the world, and the only person who can stop the war is the Avatar, the master of all four elements.

Updated: Netflix has released the official trailer for Avatar: The Last Airbender ahead of its February 22 premiere. “The Fire Nation is embarked on a dark path. And the world might never recover. The world needs the Avatar. It needs you, Aang.” The trailer begins with the voiceover in a plea to Aang to save the world. In the video, we also get the first looks at Bumi, the Earth Kingdom ruler of Omashu played by Utkarsh Ambudkar and the creature Nyla that’s mounted by bounty hunter June (Arden Cho).
