Mumbai, July 30 (Ians) Filmmaker Manish Gupta spoke about his film ‘One Friday Night’ and detailed the response he’s getting for his role. He went on to say that Milind Soman’s character in the film was the most difficult character to portray in the feature.

Elaborating on the difficulties he faced in order to write fleshed out characters during the scripting process, Manish said: “Milind Soman’s character was tricky to write, because I had to make the audience sympathise with him even though he is cheating on his wife, who’s a very good lady.”
Talking about the audience’s reaction to the film, he stated: “The audience is intrigued by the plot. And they are constantly second-guessing the ending. Women are identifying with Raveena’s character.

New Delhi, May 25 (Ians) The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way people live, work and socialise, accelerating demand for innovation, as retailers, consumer goods, and travel companies shift from reacting to the crisis to reinventing products and services, according to findings of a new global survey from Accenture.
After a year of lockdowns, 98% of survey respondents in India said they made at least one change to their lifestyle that they expect will be permanent. Working from home, changing travel patterns, and a growing desire to shop locally are challenging industries to fundamentally rethink how they cater to the pandemic-adapted consumer.
The latest survey of more than 9,650 people in 19 countries including more than 500 people in India, supports Accenture's previous findings that many changes in behaviour will likely be long-term.

Section 375
Starring Akshaye Khanna, Richa Chadha, Meera Chopra, Rahul Bhat
Directed by Ajay Bahl
A very pretty Maharashtrian girl steps out of her humble home to go to her workplace when a neighbour shouts out, ‘Ae Madhuri Dixit.’
In the next ten minutes this girl Anjali, played by the lovely and effective Meera Chopra, will be raped by her boss, an arrogant film director (played with agonizing efficacy by Rahul Bhat) who speaks to his associates on the set as though they were vermins and parasites born to serve and be abused.
In the next five minutes this jerk of a filmmaker will be arrested and tried for rape.
But did he really commit the crime? The question hangs thick in the narrative, circling the tense courtroom drama provocatively, letting us know that when it comes to sexual allegations, nothing is what it seems. Madhur Bhandarkar will vouch for that.

The mystery surrounding the lead actor who is to play (late) Aarushi in the Manish Gupta's film Rahasya was more mysterious than the real case itself. While the role of her parents will be portrayed by Tisca Chopra and Aashish Vidyarthi, the search for Aarushi has finally ended with Sakshi Sem. Readers may recollect Sakshi as the curly haired little girl in many ad commercials and films like Darna Zaroori Hai and Ajay Devgn's Raju Chacha. Talking about how she bagged the role, she said that Manish just offered her the part and she replied positively without even looking at the script. She added that in order to prepare for the role, she has been following the case in totality. Talking about Sakshi, Manish said that he remembers her as a brilliant nine-year-old kid when he directed her in Darna Zaroori Hai. While in Rahasya, he has explored...

Mumbai, May 1: Director Dibakar Banerjee wonders why a lot of filmmakers aren't attempting anthologies like "Bombay Talkies". He feels that the concept is beneficial for filmmakers as well as for audiences.
In 2006, Ram Gopal Varma's "Darna Zaroori Hai" featured six stories by six different directors - J.D. Chakravarthy, Manish Gupta, Prawal Raman, Sajid Khan, Jijy Philip and Vivek Shah. In 2007, "Dus Kahaniyaan" was a similar sort of project.
Now comes "Bollywood Talkies", an amalgamation of four short films by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Banerjee. It releases Friday.
"I am very surprised that.

Prashant Narayanan, brilliant in his award-winning role as a vicious serial killer in Murder 2, is known to be very particular about whom he works with. In the past, he has turned down plum roles in prestigious assignments merely because he wasn't happy with his co-stars. That explains the scarcity of assignments in this brilliant actor's career. Last week, on location for Manish Gupta's political thriller Main Nahin Anna at Madh Island, Prashant apparently refused to shoot when he saw his co-star was the veteran bit-player Manmauji who plays Anna Hazare in Gupta's film. On seeing Manmauji, Prashant Naryanan threw a fit. Reportedly the actor came to blows with his director over the issue. Says the harrowed director Gupta, "Prashant refused to shoot with Manmauji arguing that someone else was supposed to play Anna Hazare. It is true, actor Surendra Rajan was supposed to play Anna Saab. But Surendra...

This Friday will see the release of Kiran Rao's Dhobi Ghat and the Manish Gupta directed Hostel. It is but obvious that the presence of Aamir Khan (though in a small role) and his name being associated with Dhobi Ghat will assure that the film will have a clear edge over Hostel, especially at the high end multiplexes (more so of Mumbai-Maharashtra). Last week saw the release of the three Deol starrer Yamla Pagla Deewana and Prakash Jha's Turning 30!!! As expected the Sameer Ka...

In my college, ragging used to be an innocuous activity. In fact, our very own professors would ask our seniors to rag us. We were made to sing songs and dance on benches. And everyone (including our professors) used to have a merry time! This was basically done to break the ice between the seniors and us. Even in our films, ragging is portrayed in a very humorous way. Munnabhai M.B.B.S and 3 Idiots didn’t depict ragging as a very grim issue. But there is a flip to this, and Manish Gupta (The Stoneman Murders) attempts to address the issue as a menace.

Writer-Director Manish Gupta who has a track record of writing hard-hitting, realistic films like Sarkar and The Stoneman Murders speaks about his next film Hostel. "Though I loved and thoroughly enjoyed Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots and Munnabhai Mbbs, I was left a little dissatisfied at the way Ragging was portrayed in both films – since it was made to look funny. In my opinion, there's nothing funny about being stripped naked in front of the whole college and being tortured.

India is badly affected by ragging, a form of abuse on newcomers to educational institutions and has reportedly caused at least 30 deaths in the last 7 years. This year alone 10 students have lost their lives due to the brutal practice of Ragging. Hostel is the only movie that addresses the issue of ragging. Hostel is a story inspired by true life events of various boys' hostels especially Aman Kachroo who had died a year back. Hostel is a film about a student played by Vatsal Sheth who enters a notorious hostel and is ragged by his seniors. It's not just about one incident but a string of incidents and is a hard-hitting reality-action film. It shows how students are tortured and harassed in the name of ragging. 'Ragging' is a sadistic practice that has become a ritual in most of the Indian hostels. Sadly, the students who are a victim of...

When I first read the title for the upcoming Bollywood thriller “Hostel”, I figured it would be a remake of Eli Roth’s notorious torture horror flick of the same name. I was, of course, dead wrong in that assumption. Writer/director Manish Gupta’s “Hostel” is a much more sinister affair, a dark and terrifying drama that chronicles the real-life practice of “ragging”. Never heard of ragging? Me, either. From what I understand, the term is used to describe the brutal form of hazing that Indian students are apparently subjected to during their first year at various educational institutions across the country. Here’s what Gupta had to say on the subject: There are many suicides that occur in Indian hostels due to ragging wherein students are beaten up, stripped, paraded naked, starved, tortured, molested and even raped by their seniors. Since victims of ragging find it humiliating to...

If you don't know Manish Gupta, you'll really wish you did. The writer of a number of critically acclaimed films, with Sarkar taking top honors in his career graph, is one of the most real and honest filmmakers around, as I very quickly learnt. When he realized that other directors weren't doing justice to his films, the writer took it upon himself to start direction. It was then that Gupta wrote and directed the murder mystery, The Stoneman Murders. The film didn't do as well as it should have at the box office but gained Gupta much critical acclaim. Next in line is Gupta's film on the heinous 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks titled, Mumbai v/s Ajmal Kasab. The film intends to fully divulge the real reasons behind the 26/11 attacks and incidents leading up to the horrific night that lasted over 60 hours long. Manish Gupta talks to BollySpice in a tell-all...

The writer promises a film filled with "credible proof" and most of his script is based on factual evidence he has accumulated from a reputed crime reporter as well as the 40-page court document and from local journalists who have attended the court hearings. Campbell's Bollywood Bomb Attacked By Hindus
Naomi Campbell's new Bollywood movie has opened to dreadful reviews in India - and now Hindus have taken aim at the film.
Campbell’s first Bollywood venture Karma, Confessions and Holi has bombed badly at the box office, with local critics calling the film an "undignified disaster” and an "unholy mess”.
And now religious leaders are letting their feelings be known about the movie, which was directed by Manish Gupta and co-produced by Robert De Niro’s daughter Drena.
Rajan Zed, the president of Universal Society of Hinduism, tells WENN, "Hindus have strongly objected to the usage of Hindu terminology in movies and Karma, Confessions and Holi has nothing much to do with karma or Holi.
"Hindus welcome world filmmakers making films about Hindu subjects but taking Hinduism seriously and respectfully and not reimagining its concepts and symbols just for mercantile greed. Holi and karma have definite meaning for devotees, and improper usage of such terms is not Ok."...

Now such a blatant scene with a dialogue like that was never used in any mainstream Indian movie before this. No wonder it came as a shocker.
So when it was done, the Indian censor board was like stunned big time and decided to do something about it quickly.
Anyway the self appointed guardians of morality need chances like that to snip scenes in movies, and this was going way too far and provoking them.
We’re talking of realistic filmmaker Manish Gupta’s ‘Hostel’. He’s made ‘The Stoneman Murders’ which wasn’t that well received and he decided to become more real this time around.
The buzz is that the film revolves around a bunch of students living in a hostel based on a story the director.

Movie Review: Karma Aur Holi; Star Cast: Sushmita Sen, Randeep Hooda, Drena DeNiro, Naomi Campbell, Suresh Oberoi, Rati Agnihotri, Suchitra Krishnamoorthy and Deepal Shaw; Director: Manish Gupta; Rating: ** - Could have been better.
Produced by legendary Hollywood actor Robert De Niro’s daughter Drena De Niro, Karma Aur Holi (earlier titled Karma Confessions and Holi) is not your typical Nri flick that tries to force the message down your throat about how better India is than the USA or how one is struggling to find his own identity in the land of Uncle Sam, but then.
