*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Sony Pictures. Director: A.B. Stone. Writers: Berkeley Anderson. Cast: Corin Nemec, Yancy Butler, Stephen Billington and Skye Lourie. Special effects can create remarkable environments, like those seen in Bladerunner (1982). Special effects can also create artificiality, if they are the focus of the film. Unfortunately, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda casts several of its creatures in the digital realm; the result rings very false. The film's reality is further hampered by the overuse of Adr. Many minor characters have entire strings of dialogue dubbed. And, the production company, UFO Films, continues with its long series of blunders with this kitschy film. Lake Placid vs. Anaconda should be hung out to dry. The film's plot is a real mess. Into the fourth sequel, a corporate executive wants to capture a genetically mutated snake, so that she can alter it even more. Meanwhile,...

Lizzie Roper was ''absolutely devastated'' when she learnt she was being axed from 'Hollyoaks'. The blonde beauty - who played detective Sam Lomax in the Channel 4 soap - felt crushed when she was told her character was being killed off in a nasty car crash. Speaking to SoapSquawk.com, she said: ''I was absolutely devastated, I'd completely fallen in love with Liverpool, I was totally enamoured with 'Hollyoaks' and how organic it is. It was entirely shocking.'' However, Lizzie admits she was glad bosses decided to kill her off along with her co-star Stephen Billington - who played her husband Danny Lomax...

Emma Hawkins (Sophie Vavasseur) seems to be the typical everyday teenage girl living outside of London proper. She has her atypical problems and obvious life struggles with her parents. But when audiences have the foreknowledge of knowing where Exorcismus is going, any shock value is going to be rendered moot.
Although there are no scares to be found, the real fright is in seeing how this young lady deal with life lessons and responsibilities she tends to avoid. After she has a row with mom over not being able to go to London for a rock concert, what she does next seems visceral. She cuts her hand to alleviate the anguish.
That action is also an invitation for the devil to come knocking. He does and Emma has an epileptic seizure. Emma...

Exorcismus, the devilish 2010 Spanish horror film, will come to DVD from IFC on June 7.
Priest are called in to drive the evil spirits from Sophie Vavasseur in Exorcismus.
Demonic possession films are the happening horror subject of late, with The Last Exorcism now on DVD and The Rite just announced.
Directed by Manuel Carballo and entitled The Possession of Emma Evans in its native country, the movie tells of secluded, home-schooled teenager Emma (Sophie Vavasseur) whose uncontrolled behavior causes her to believe she is possessed by the devil. Earning double points in the poor taste stakes of shameless self-promotion, straight-to-video horror mess Exorcismus – written by David Muñoz, a financial advisor by trade, who occasionally dabbles in film – has been sold not only on the basis that it is from Filmax, the studio behind the brilliant [Rec] films, but also that it “stars” Doug Bradley, better known to horror aficionados as Hellraiser’s iconic ghoul Pinhead. That the film shares practically no DNA with either [Rec] film (aside from also having a Spanish director), and that Bradley’s “starring role” actually consists of a two-minute cameo near the end, is quite the indication of quite how feverishly the film’s marketers had to scrape the bottom of the barrel in order to drum up some fuss about this ghastly horror pic.
Socially awkward, home-schooled teenager Emma (Sophie Vavasseur) one day begins to suffer from convulsions and act out in ways that she has no memory of.

Exorcismus tells the story of troubled teenager Emma (Vavassuer) who suddenly becomes prone to fits and displays strange and aggressive behaviour. Educated at home but keen to attend the local school, she hangs around with older neighbours who share her rock-chick ways, trying to tempt her with concerts. Frustrated by her parents’ rules, Emma starts to self-harm but what at first appears to be an innocent cry for help soon turns into something more sinister.

Exorcismus, or The Possession of Emma Evans as it may be called, is an English language horror from the producers of [Rec]and [Rec]2 and there’s a new trailer out in the open today.
If you’re looking forward to Daniel Stamm’s The Last Exorcism then you might want to check out this trailer as it has similar themes and, perhaps inevitably, centres itself around the strange behaviour of a young girl who may, or may not, be possessed*.
In common with the [Rec] films the strange happenings and subsequent exorcisms are captured on a video camera, although as you’ll see from the trailer the movie is filmed conventionally and not as a mock/documentary.
The film was directed by Manuel Carballo and stars Doug Bradley, Tommy Bastow, Stephen Billington and Sophie Vavasseur as Emma.
Personally I’m tiring of this scenario. Why can’t we have a demonic outbreak...

It’s not new news that a trailer for the Spanish horror movie Exorcismus - recently re-badged to the painfully generic The Possession of Emma Evans - has already hit the web, but as the Spanish official site for the film has just gone live with an uber high-res version of the trailer, we thought it worth a quick look. Manuel Carballo is directing, whilst Sophie Vavasseur leads a cast, including; Tommy Bastow, Stephen Billington and Douglas Bradley. The trail is Spanish dubbed, but still gives you a good idea of what we can expect. Having your main operations running out of Spain doesn't help when you're coming up with a title for a movie, especially when it's basically the exact same thing as a forthcoming U.S. release. Filmax announced today that they'll be retitling Exorcismus to The Possession Of Emma Evans. If this title sticks, we'll be seeing both that and The Possession of David O'Reilly side by side on the sales rack come 2011. I expect another title change by whomever acquires the film for the States. Directed by Manuel Carballo, Filmax's Possession will explore the popular horror theme of exorcism, focusing on a young girl, Emma, whose erratic behaviour forces her family to bring in a priest to try and resolve the problem through hypnosis. The disturbing results are recorded on a secret camera. Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley, Stephen Billington all star.

With it’s hugely successful scare flicks [Rec] and ]Rec]2, Spanish movie house Filmax has been making quite a name for itself on the quality horror front, and with the arrival of some new stills for their latest creation the English language possession horror Exorcismus, they aren’t showing any signs of letting up anytime soon. Spaniard Manuel Carballo is directing, whilst the all grown up Sophie Vavasseur (yes indeed the little girl in ‘Resident Evil: Apocalypse’) leads an international cast, including; Tommy Bastow, Stephen Billington and Douglas Bradley. No word yet on a release date, but the pic has already scored rights sales in most English speaking regions, so it wont be long before it arrives. How can you not be excited for Manuel Carballo's Exorcismus? After Filmax killed it twice with Rec and Rec 2, it's hard to imagine them dropping the ball on yet another exorcist-themed horror film. Starring Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley and Stephen Billington, Bloody Disgusting was provided with the first ever still from the film that explores the popular horror theme of exorcism, focusing on a young girl, Suzy, whose erratic behaviour forces her family to bring in a priest to try and resolve the problem through hypnosis. The disturbing results are recorded on a secret camera.

Variety reports that Filmax had pre-sold distro rights for Manuel Carballo's English-language possession pic Exorcismus , that include U.K. rights to E1 Entertainment U.K., Vendetta in Australia and an Italo licensing pact with Mediafilm. Further deals include Gulf Film for the Middle East, Portugal's Lusomundo and Cdi for Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile. Many of these distributors handled the Filmax-produced and sold Rec 2 . Written by David Munoz ( The Devil's Backbone ), Exorcismus concerns a possessed 15-year-old and the priest assigned to watch over her. The girl sets up a hidden camera in her bedroom to record his sessions with her. Doug Bradley, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix and Stephen Billington star. We'll keep you posted on a Us release as soon as we hear it.

With the recent success of Rec and Rec 2, my perception of Filmax International has changed completely. I always thought they were a generic production company that released eerily similar films; never bad, but also not all that great. These days Filmax has become a trusted brand, so my anticipation for Manuel Carballo's Exorcismus is through the roof. I'm quite sure the end of the road equals disappointment, but until then I'll enjoy the anticipation. Below you'll find a new synopsis and promo art for the film starring Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley and Stephen Billington.

Spain really is trying to become the next Japan, at least in terms of horror movie output, and helping shepherd the movement is studio Flimax, which produced [Rec] and [Rec] 2. Exorcismus is the company's English-language production that started shooting October 5 in and around Barcelona and has put together a horror fan-friendly cast with Hellraiser's Doug Bradley and Resident Evil actors Sophie Vavasseur (Resident Evil: Apocalypse) and Stephen Billington (Resident Evil).
Relative newcomer Manuel Carballo (Filmax's The Last of the Just) will direct the script by David Munoz (The Devil's Backbone).
The synopsis, according to Spanish horror site Aullidos, is roughly translated below. Real rough. We preferit through an online Spanish-to-English translator once, translate it back into Spanish, and then back into English for optimum results:
Exorcismus counts as Emma is fed above. It is satiated to study between company instead of going to the institute, is satiated to do of kangaroo of his small brother,...

On Monday, October 5, shooting commenced on Exorcismus, the latest fear film to come out of Spain’s Filmax studios. As with so many Spanish genre productions of the last decade, this one is also directed by a relative newcomer to feature filmmaking, Manuel Carballo (taking over for originally slated Luis de la Madrid). And in common with most of the company's previous horror movies (such as Arachnid, Dagon, Darkness, The MacHinist and Beyond Re-animator), the movie is being filmed with a multinational cast in English, on locations in and around the city of Barcelona.
The cast includes Resident Evil: Apocalypse’s Sophie Vavasseur (pictured), Richard Felix from Filmax’s Fragile, which still has yet to see U.S. release, Hellraiser stalwart Doug Bradley and the first Resident’s Stephen Billington. The movie has already been presold to a dozen countries, including Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. Most...

Spanish production house Filmax previously announced it would be following up [Rec] 2 with the Manuel Carballo-helmed Exorcismus, and today we got a bit of casting news and a more complete synopsis of the possession-based flick.
According to Aullidos (note the translation is a bit rough), shooting began on October 5th. This is a new production of Julio Fernandez and Sandra Fernandez [for] Filmax, shot in English and in which we see an international cast led by Sophie Vavasseur (pictured, Resident Evil: Apocalypse). Rounding out the cast [are] Richard Felix (Perfume; Fragile), Douglas Bradley (Hellraiser), and Stephen Billington (Resident Evil), among others. One of the main features of the film is to be shot with a very realistic tone, so that the fantasy theme of possession will be even more disturbing.
And what about that possession theme? How far will they go? Well, here's how Aullidos describes it: Emma is sick. Tired of...
