Exclusive: Melissa Peterman is reuniting with Reba McEntire in the latter’s as-yet-untitled NBC multi-cam comedy pilot alongside Blue Beetle star Belissa Escobedo.

Peterman and McEntire co-starred in the country legend’s eponymous TV series from 2001 to 2007 from executive producers Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis, who are also back together for the new project alongside new addition, Julie Abbott. The project is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The pilot follows Bobbie (McEntire) who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.

Peterman will portray Gabby, a bartender who has worked at the tavern for quite some time. She is a bit needy and dramatic and would have loved to be Bobbie’s sister.

“Righteous Thieves” ends with its protagonists having a wee festival of self-congratulation, sipping champagne as they promise themselves — and perhaps threaten viewers — they’ll have more adventures like the one that’s just wrapped. Their delight is not infectious, because this dopey caper’s prior 90 minutes have been rather like hoisting a flute of promised champers only to taste flat Fresca.

Director Anthony Nardolillo and writer Michael Corcoran’s film strikes a pose of sly ingeniousness throughout that is uncorroborated by any actual cleverness, surprise, wit, tension, thrills or much else you’d hope for in a high-end-heist tale. Global sales agency Grandave International, whose catalog includes the likes of Omar Chaparro’s 7th & Union and Righteous Thieves with Cam Cigandet and Lisa Vidal, will soon see its movies released in China after signing a deal with producer and distributor M-Star International.

The first releases from the deal will start in China in the second quarter of 2023. Following each theatrical release, the features will get Chinese TV, VOD, SVOD and platform deals via M-Star International distribution partners.

“China has a massive audience, and the theatrical business in China is the largest in the world, and with this deal in place we are covering the Video on Demand segment completely across all the major platforms, across the country,” said Christopher Acebo, president of Grandave International.

The deal was negotiated by Stanley Preschutti, president of Grandave Capital, and Cory Chen, president of M-Star International.

The thing is, after most of Grey's Anatomy Season 17 has proven to be a downer, the simplicity of Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Episode 11 is a reprieve.

Efforts to find the canceled ABC dramedy a new home have not been successful, meaning that the series will remain dead.

The Baker and the Beauty was saddled with low ratings from the beginning of its run.

Initially set to follow the Clare Crawley-led The Bachelorette, the series ultimately followed a the terribly rated The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart.

News of the show failing to find a new home comes almost a month after ABC pulled the plug.

This paved the way for the series’ leading lady, Nathalie Kelley, to criticize the network for the decision.

“Baker and the Beauty is a show that depicts Latin families as warm, lovable, full of joy and compassion and humor,” the actress said in a statement at the time.

The news comes three weeks after Alphabet network cancelled the show, citing low ratings. In the immediate aftermath of the announcement, the series’ leading lady, Nathalie Kelley, condemned the decision. “Baker and the Beauty is a show that depicts Latin families as warm, lovable, full of joy and compassion and humor,” the actress said. “A cancellation by ABC means that there are now no shows on the networks with a Latinx cast.

The Baker and the Beauty may be canceled, but Nathalie Kelley has released a new statement on the matter, conceding that the decision to end the drama is "extremely tone deaf."

"We are seeing now more than ever that representation is important for Black and brown people of color. How we are represented on our television shows determines how society sees us, and the empathy and support they will grant our communities," Kelley said.

"When we are constantly depicted as narcos and maids, we can’t expect to find favor with voters when they go to the polls and elect leaders who will decide on the fate of immigrants."

In an open letter alongside a link to a petition in support of the show finding a new home, The Baker and the Beauty star Nathalie Kelley spoke of the cancelation of the rare series with a Latinx cast, its legacy of representation and its timeliness as the type of show that is “necessary during these times”

In an earlier version of the letter that was subsequently retracted but has been published online, Kelley called the cancellation “an extremely tone deaf decision” “at a time when the public is marching in the streets demanding representation and diversity.”

Don't count The Baker and the Beauty out just yet.

Despite ABC canceling the series after a single season earlier this week, fans are ready to find the series a new home.

But before we get to that, we finally have some insight into why the series was canceled prematurely.

ABC boss Karey Burke revealed to Deadline that the primary issue was the ratings.

“The Baker and the Beauty is a show I was personally very fond of, it’s a very sweet and hopeful and inspired and optimistic show that I wish we had been able to find a bigger audience for,” she told the outlet.

The Baker and the Beauty Season 1 averaged 2.5 million total viewers and a 0.5 rating in the demo, making it ABC's lowest-rated drama.

The series did get a bump in delayed viewing, but it was not enough for the show to continue at ABC.

ABC on Monday opted not to renew The Baker and the Beauty two weeks after the romantic comedy-drama based on an Israeli format finished its nine-episode freshman run.

While the original series has been one of the highest-rated scripted series ever in Israel, its U.S. adaptation did not fair as well, ranking as one of ABC’s lowest rated series this past season. But it developed a passionate core fanbase who have mounted a Save the Show campaign with a petition that has been trending and has already crossed the 60K signatures mark, as well as a fundraiser to support the effort.

Could The Baker and the Beauty‘s fairytale romance still get a happy ending? Shortly after news broke that ABC’s latest summer sudser was canceled after just one season, star Nathalie Kelley took to social media with a hopeful message for disappointed fans:

“Guys we appreciate the love and well wishes following ABC’s decision not to renew us for a second season,” Kelley tweeted on Monday night. “But honestly their loss will be someone else’s gain, so stay hopeful and activated about the show while we find it the right home! Love u all.”

ABC on Monday night announced the status of its remaining bubble series, and while it was good news for one of them, it was bad news for the other.

The Baker and the Beauty has been canceled after a nine-episode freshman season.

Based on the Israeli series, the series starred Victor Rasuk as Daniel Garcia, a regular Joe who works at his parents’ Cuban bakery in Miami.

On the night that his girlfriend Vanessa proposes to him by singing Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” in the middle of a fancy restaurant, Daniel bumps into the beautiful Noa Hamilton (Dynasty‘s Nathalie Kelley), a model-turned-fashion mogul who is coming off a highly publicized split with her cheating actor boyfriend.

An unlikely romance between the baker and the beauty kicks off, but unfortunately, the series went largely ignored in traditional ratings.

It averaged around 2.5 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic.

It looks like ABC isn't in love with Daniel and Noa.  The network has cancelled The Baker and the Beauty TV show so there won't be a second season.

ABC is all out of Cuban pastries: The network has cancelled the romantic dramedy The Baker and the Beauty after one season, TVLine has confirmed.

Across its nine-episode freshman run this spring, The Baker and the Beauty averaged a 0.47 demo rating and 2.5 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day numbers). Among the 10 dramas that ABC aired this TV season, it ranked last in the demo (behind cancelled fellow freshman Emergence), while only outdrawing the newly renewed For Life in total audience.

ABC has canceled The Baker and the Beauty. The hourlong romantic comedy-drama, based on the hit Israeli format, was one of two freshman series left on the bubble by ABC after it made the bulk of its renewals and cancellations last month. The other, drama For Life, has been renewed.

ABC has renewed the freshman legal drama “For Life” for a second season and opted not to move forward with a second season of “The Baker and the Beauty,” the network announced Monday.

Created by Hank Steinberg and produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, “For Life” debuted back in February and wrapped its freshman run last month. The series is a fictional serialized legal and family drama about an imprisoned man, Aaron Wallace, who becomes a lawyer litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. It is inspired by the life of Isaac Wright Jr.

“The Baker and the Beauty” debuted back in April and starred Victor Rasuk and “Dynasty” alum Nathalie Kelley as a baker who falls in with an international celebrity and fashion mogul after they meet during a wild night out in Miami.

ABC has made some major changes to its programming slate. The network has scheduled the premiere date for “Modern Family’s” series finale for April 8. In preparation for the ultimate farewell, ABC announced a “Modern Family” marathon of five fan-favorite episodes starting with the pilot that started it all, which will take place Mar. 11. Fans will be able to cast their vote for their favorite episode through a daily twitter poll from the show’s official twitter handle. Voting begins Feb. 3 and concludes Feb. 7. Also, ABC will air say goodbye to “How to Get Away With Murder” on May 14.
