He wrestled through high school, and was 3rd in the state of Florida.

There is a rumor that Zagarino spent two days in a North Korean jail while filming Ten Zan in 1988, because he was suspected of being an American spy taking pictures. Zagarino has exposed this as a made up story. The North Koreans were aware of the movie and only took his camera. Zagarino was never imprisoned.

Like several other American B movie stars he made many of his movies in Europe, especially in Italy.
