Six directors of standout 2024 documentaries gathered in late November for THR’s annual Documentary Roundtable.
Two were veteran American documentary filmmakers: R.J. Cutler, who helmed Netflix’s Martha, a portrait of Martha Stewart that explores the price of pursuing perfection, and Disney’s Elton John: Never Too Late, which contrasts the rise to stardom with the farewell tour of the singer-songwriter (David Furnish co-directed the latter); and Matt Tyrnauer, director of Greenwich Films’ Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid, a profile of James Carville, the legendary Democratic strategist. Another was Swiss-born Ian Bonhôte, whose third doc, which he directed with Peter Ettedgui, is Warner Bros.’ Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, in which the life, work and tragic accident of the titular beloved movie star is examined 20 years after his death.
The other three were there on behalf of their first feature-length docs: Carla Gutiérrez, a veteran film editor, who helmed Amazon/MGM’s Frida,...

Between a high-profile press tour, a vortex of online negativity and a raging conversation around female genitalia, it is likely you are aware that Gwyneth Paltrow launched a docuseries on Netflix in late January.
“The Goop Lab,” announced exclusively by Variety last year, is a six-episode manifestation of Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop and its many content verticals, built around a central thesis that the Oscar winner described as “optimization of self.”
Response has played out across the normal spectrum on which Paltrow and Goop are received: adoration from like-minded seekers, interest from fashion and film fans, and invective from trolls and pockets of the medical community. During a recent conversation at Netflix headquarters in Los Angeles, Paltrow had an easy smile for all of it. She’s been here before.
“I will never understand the level of fascination and projection. But we don’t want to not change the conversation just to please everybody,...

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired multi-territory rights to Matt Tyrnauer’s “Where’s My Roy Cohn?”, individuals familiar with the deal told Variety.
The film premiered in the U.S. documentary competition from Tyranuer, known for tackling culture-shapers like designer Valentino Garavani, Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager and Hollywood pimp Scotty Bowers. The sale includes U.S. rights, and will include a theatrical release.
Using rare archival footage, “Where’s My Roy Cohn” looks at the infamous New York attorney — a man who represented power brokers, Catholic church leaders, and mobsters. Cohn exploded onto the stage as a top lieutenant of Sen. Joseph McCarthy. He later became a mentor of none other than future President Donald Trump, advising him to always “punch back” when the real estate developer was being sued for housing discrimination. A closeted homosexual, Cohn died of AIDS-related complications in 1986.

Gwyneth Paltrow made her first public appearance since marrying her beau Brad Falchuk, and naturally, it was at an event for her lifestyle brand, Goop. On Monday, she attended Goop's launch party in Notting Hill in celebration of the brand's 10-year anniversary. She fittingly wore a white ruffled frock dress graced with pearl embellishments with a simple updo. Many of her fellow Hollywood and industry friends also stopped by to partake in the festivities.
Gwyneth looked cheerful as she posed with major designers, including Emilia Wickstead, Christopher Kane, and Valentino Garavani. She also stood alongside one of her good friends Demi Moore for a few cute photo ops. It ain’t easy being a power woman in entertainment, media and tech — which is why our annual executive vacation report “Moguls on a Boat” is devoted this year to high-profile women who deserve to play as hard as they work.

They are spiritual and thought leaders, CEOs, philanthropists, underwriters of art and culture and definitively in charge. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West tied the knot at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, back in May 2014. To commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime event on the couple's one-year anniversary, Kim took to Instagram to share some never-before-seen snaps from the day, including new shots from the photo booth and the carriage ride at Versailles in France. Nearly two years ago, the bride wore a Givenchy Haute Couture gown and was walked down the aisle by her stepfather, Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner, while the rest of her family - including sisters Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie and Kendall Jenner - stayed close by as she and Kanye exchanged vows. The ceremony was performed by hot Miami pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr., while longtime Kardashian family friend and celebrity event planner Sharon Sacks planned the couple's nuptials.

Domingo features in the show, as do Rebeka’s friends and contemporaries, including conductors Marco Armiliato and Fabrizio Maria Carminati, tenor Juan Diego Flórez and Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani.
“While Marina Rebeka’s leading roles in ‘Norma,’ ‘La Traviata’ and ‘La Boheme,’ to name a few, have won the highest praise from taste setters like The New York Times and Opera Today, this hugely enjoyable doc brings us up close up and personal to an extraordinary talent, whose down-to-earth warmth and humor completely shatter the common ‘diva’ stereotype,...

When the 17th annual Tribeca Film Festival opens this week, New York audiences will have a chance to catch some of the most anticipated queer films of the year. Sebastián Lelio’s “Disobedience” will play in New York days before its theatrical release; the film stars Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams as two women who must hide their attraction in their tight-knit Orthodox Jewish community. Desiree Akhavan’s Sundance winner “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” will also make its New York debut at the festival, with Chloë Grace Moretz and Sasha Lane. Provocateurs Andre Leon Talley and Robert Mapplethorpe each headline their own film, and prolific gay filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer uncovers the inside story of Studio 54.
This year’s Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 18 – 29. Check out our must-see Lgbt films below.

As Meryl Streep acting as Miranda Priestly once famously said in The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” But florals on the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet? Nothing short of earth-shattering. At least 10 stars sported the look, including (below, from left): Emily Blunt, wearing a short-sleeved nude Cavalli Couture gown with delicate pink floral embellishment, while Janelle Monae‘s black-and-white Chanel dress featured white flower detailing on her chest, neck and around her wrists. In honor of their second wedding anniversary, the reality star and her rapping beau jetted off to the Italian capital on Sunday to mingle among the country's rich, famous and most beautiful. The duo joined designer Valentino Garavani and screen siren Monica Belluci for an evening viewing of La Traviata directed by Sofia Coppola at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Just days ahead of their second wedding anniversary, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West headed back to Italy for a fashionable red carpet outing. On Sunday, the couple attended the premiere of La Traviata at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome; Kim wore a stunning white one-shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress, while Kanye kept things cool in all black, reminding us not only of their lavish wedding, but also their infamous Vogue cover. The classic production is headed by fashion designer Valentino Garavani, who has been a close pal of Kim's for years. Also involved in the updated lyrical opera is Sofia Coppola, who acts as director. Kim and Kanye famously tied the knot at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, back in May 2014 and could likely be celebrating their milestone in the romantic countryside this week. Earlier in the weekend, they popped up in London for the Vogue festival, where...

"That Justin Theroux guy - where do I know him from?" Depending on whom you ask, you could get a great many answers. Of course, he's the husband of Jennifer Aniston, but he's had a string of notable acting roles too. He could be that guy from The Leftovers, the actor who played the hapless director character in Mulholland Drive, Leslie Knope's short-lived boyfriend on Parks and Recreation, or even the bad guy from Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. However, Theroux is also a screenwriter, and he's credited with a handful of major films that casual movie-goers might not associate with him.
