In Poker Face, Crowe plays Jake Foley, a multimillionaire poker player who gives his best childhood friends (Liam Hemsworth, RZA, Aden Young, Steve Bastoni ,Daniel MacPherson) the chance to play a big game of poker and the possibility of winning more money than they ever dreamed of. But to play, they will have to reveal some of their darkest secrets. The evening takes a turn when Foley (Russell Crowe) unveils his elaborate plan seeking revenge for their betrayals and to play, they'll have to give up the one thing they've spent their lives trying to keep...their secrets. The film becomes a harmful and perverse game in which action, violence, theft and even forbidden love are served. Actor/writer/director Russell Crowe gives a nice acting in his usual style as a tech billionaire who hosts a high-stakes poker game between friends, but the evening takes a turn when long-held secrets are revealed. Crowe is joined in the cast by other cool actors such as Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games, The Duel), or the American rapper RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists, American gangster) , Elsa Pataky (The Fast and The Furious series, Interceptor) who's married to the box office hit actor Chris Hemsworth, brother of the co-star Liam Hemsworth, Aden Young (Killer elite, I Frankenstein), Steve Bastoni (Him, Streanline), Daniel MacPherson (Land of Bad, Foundation), Brooke Satchwell, Molly Grace, Jack Thompson, Jackeline Mckenzie, among others.
The direction by actor/director Russell Crowe is routine, not contributing anything special, a simple meeting of friends with some surprises and some thieves breaking into the really luxurious house. Russell Crowe is a famous actor and occasionally director. Crowe has a heavy, muscular build and gravelly smoke-burnished voice. Crowe frequently plays exceptionally talented individuals
and often works with directors Ron Howard and Ridley Scott usually playing characters based on real individuals or fathers or family men who have usually suffered a loss. Among his most popular films are: Les miserables (2012), Robin Hood (2010), Cinderella Man (2005), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), A beautiful mind (2001) and Gladiator (2000) . And he directed a much better film than this Poker Face, ¨The Water Diviner¨(2014). Poker Face rating: 5.5/10. The film is acceptable and passable but only recommended for hardcore fans of Russell Crowe.
