The film is dedicated to Monkey Punch, the creator of Lupin III, who died in April 2019, six months before the film released.

During the highway escape, the police cars escorting the Citroen HY police vehicle are clearly Datsun Bluebirds (Police vehicles not operated by the French police) marked as belonging to the 'Saitama Prefectural Police' from Japan, complete with Japanese livery and writing and driven by officers that are based of Japanese police officers. This is a geographical error, as these vehicles would not be operating in France, where this scene takes place.". You could say its because that is not the Japanese police, but Interpol, however you would still be wrong as that is not how Interpol works.

Pretty fun

I've seen a couple of Lupin III-related things before, but I was mostly interested in watching this one because it was directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who's helmed the latest Godzilla movie. That's one I'm very excited about seeing next week, so I thought I'd check out something else from the director before then.

Lupin III: The First is an overall pretty fun film. If I had the time and I was even more pretentious than I am, I'd make a video essay about how Indiana Jones 5 ripped this off. I don't even think there's more than a couple of similarities, but the thought crossed my mind at one point and didn't leave.

This Is also much better than Indiana Jones 5, not to mention an hour shorter and it didn't make me miserable either, which is always a plus when it comes to breezy action/adventure movies.
