- CuriosidadesThis film was directed by "Lupin III" creator Monkey Punch. However, in interviews he explained he only took the job due to the production having a deadline of five months and there being no director available to handle the job. According to Punch, all he actively directed was the opening and closing scenes of the OAV; he left the rest of the film in the hands of assistant director Hiroyuki Yano. He said the experience was too demanding (in his own words "it took more than a thousand times the energy of drawing a manga to produce and direct this movie"), and that he never wants to direct a feature again.

The story follows along Lupin and the gang as they try to, what else, steal a super valuable treasure. This time around the treasure is on a super sophisticated booby-trapped island. If anyone goes to access the vault they are pursued by endlessly respawning spears that follow the intruders. Lupin and crew retreat and try to formulate a new plan.
Meanwhile, Fujiko has infiltrated an evil warlord's base of operation. She is trusted to watch after the disobedient daughter. I'm sure these two separate storylines will not interact at all.
Speaking of, the opening action set piece has little to nothing to do with the main adventure. It is just a cool action opening for the sake of getting the adventure started.
The movie has some good animation, cool action and fun character interactions. If you haven't seen any Lupin III movie before this one is a fine enough one to start off with. It introduces you to all these characters well enough and is a good sample of the series.
Looks like the Lupin Franchise still has some life in it after all these years.
