The film was actually shot the day before Father's Day in 2009. One flashback shot shows Pearl as a little girl talking to her father. To achieve this using the four year-old playing the part, the filmmakers had the young actress speak to her own father, Marc Isaacs who plays Joey, while he held the camera. The film marks the first time the Executive Producer and the actress playing the wife met. Nine months after filming, the actress donated a kidney to the EP.
