Pavement design is the process of selecting a practical and economical combination of materials of known strength and adequate thicknesses to support the anticipated traffic under expected environmental conditions.Pavements are layered structures of varying thicknesses and characteristics, resting on subgrade soil. They are designed for the purpose of carrying vehicular traffic. Depending on the load distribution characteristics and flexural stiffness of the pavement layers, pavements are mainly divided into (1) flexible pavements (IRC: 37, IRC: 81), (2) rigid pavements (IRC:58, IRC:15, IRC:76, IRC:SP62) and (3) Composite Pavements (IRCSP:76). Construction activities mainly depend on natural resources as a source of raw materials, leading to ecological imbalance. So, the construction industries tend to depend on alternative materials as the source of aggregates in concrete production. Generally, changes in the natural landscape have created a serious problem of rainwater drainage in many cities in India. The Previous concrete has been used in this experimental work. In this study, pervious concrete 15% to 40% voids can be achieved without use of fine aggregate. Generally, single size coarse aggregates are used for the development of mixture design of pervious concrete. However, the quality of previous concrete resulting different from conventional concrete. Thus, this study aims to improve the property of previous concrete through different applications. The void ratio has been compared to previous and conventional concrete. The Cement content of 250 kg/m 3 to 400 kg/m 3 with an interval of 50 kg/m 3 was used in the development of mixture design of pervious concrete. The density of previous concrete is increased while improve of cement content. The development of mixture design of pervious concrete, two different sizes of coarse aggregates of 10 mm-20 mm and 4.75 mm-10 mm were used in this experimental work.

The purpose of this paper is to summarize literature on permeable pavements, highlight current trends in research and industry, and to recommend future areas of research and development. Permeable paving is a range of sustainable materials and techniques for permeable pavements with a base and sub base that allow the movement of storm water through the surface. In addition to reducing runoff, this effectively traps suspended solids and filters pollutants from the water. The goal is to control storm water at the source, reduce runoff, reduce cost and improve water quality by filtering pollutants in the substrata layers and increase subsurface water level, thus one way to harvest storm water. In Maharashtra, fly ash is generated in huge quantity in thermal power stations. The disposal of fly ash is also a major socioeconomic problem. So the use of fly ash up to 10-30% as a replacement to cement can overcome this problem. The use of fly ash will reduces the construction cost and also solve disposal problem. Porous pavement is unique and effective means to meet growing environmental demands. By capturing rainwater and allowing it to seep into the ground, this pavement technology creates more efficient land use by eliminating the need for retention ponds, swell, and other costly storm water management devices.

— A large proportion of India " s villages has been connected with all weather roads and has low volume of traffic. The main composition of such roads is granular layer with or without thin bituminous surfacing. The common problem to rural roads is that their maintenance is neglected because of paucity of funds and poor institutional set up, and the road asset created at a great cost is lost. Cement concrete pavement offer an alternate to the flexible pavements especially when the soil strength is poor, the aggregates are costly and drainage conditions are bad. Concrete pavements have now been constructed for low volume of traffic because of their durability even under poor drainage conditions. Rural roads connecting major roads are sometimes required to carry diverted traffic which may damage the concrete pavement slabs. Such factors may be considered while arriving at thickness of concrete pavements. It is well established that the concrete pavements demand a high degree of professional expertise at the design stage as the defective design may lead to concrete failure even if the construction is done with great care. Indian Roads Congress has issued the first revision of IRC: SP: 62 in 2014 for design and construction of concrete pavement for low volume of roads. In this paper, efforts have been made to elaborate the different design aspects of concrete pavement for rural roads which will be helpful for the young engineers and research scholars.

In spite of having low Compressive and flexural strength, No-fines concrete has properties capable of being used as rigid pavement for low traffic volume roads. Along with the mix proportions and water content to have sufficient bond between the aggregate particles, it is critical to determine what happens to the water once it penetrates the pavement surface. In this paper, an innovative model that can transport water percolated into the pavement has been suggested in this direction. Different combinations of Cement, water and Course aggregate with different maximum size and gradation were adopted for trial mixes to arrive at M20 grade concrete.M20 grade concrete is achieved with a w/c ratio of 0.45, Course aggregate of nominal size 20 mm and with a cement to Course aggregate ratio of 1:4. Its density and flexural strength were observed to be 21 kN/m 3 and 35 kg/cm 2 respectively.A pavement slab suitable for low traffic volume roads is designed as per IRC SP62: 2004 which allows storage of water upto 125 lit./m 3 of concrete pavement giving time for infiltration thereby reducing the runoff and recharging the ground water or sufficient time for transport of it. A perforated pipe can be provided at center of the pavement above sub-base such that it collects the water stored in concrete and drains it to the required treatment plant or a recharge pit. This however needs further investigation and trials before practical implementation.

The rural and semi urban collector and local streets of India is usually unpaved or paved using the materials such as clay compacted, gravel compacted or water bound macadam surfacing. These materials undergo damages very soon under heavy loadings, extreme weather conditions etc. So it is proposed to adopt composite pavement for paving the local and collector streets of rural areas. A composite structure is defined as multi-layer structure where there is a flexible layer over a rigid layer. In a composite pavement, a cement treated base is provided under the wearing course. Due to its unique structural behavior, it got a longer life and provides rider comfort, comparatively greater than any conventional pavement. But constructing a composite pavement with conventional material is quite expensive. Due to the abundance availability of construction waste and demolition debris, it is proposed to use it, in place of conventional materials. The broken brick bats are tested for its suitability to be used as a granular sub-base material. For recycled lean concrete to be used as cement treated base course, the crushed concrete is tested for its replacement for conventional coarse aggregate. The materials of Brick bats for granular sub-base and recycled lean concrete for base course, confines the properties of requirements for pavement materials as specified by Rural road quality control handbook of Ministry of Rural development, Government of India and IRC 63, Use of low grade aggregates and soil-aggregate mixtures in road pavements. The structural design of composite pavement is done accordance to “pavement design manual” published by “Illinois Department of Transportation”
