Hearing impairment is a growing problem for our ageing communication society. Although many elderly people take notice of their hearing deficiencies in daily communication, only few of them are supplied with hearing aids. This maybe a cause of several psycho-social factors (e.g. stigmatization, comfort, cost and effort) associated with hearing loss . The Hearing at Home (HaH) project [1] tries to tackle this general acceptance problem by applying supportive hearing technology into (highly accepted) home-entertainment devices, allowing the elderly people to participate in communica-tion without using hearing aids. Abstract. The paper presents the main results of the IST FP6 INFRAWEBS project. The project has developed an easy and effective way of constructing and using semantic descriptions for existing and new Web services. INFRAWEBS has adopted the WSMO (Web Service Modeling Ontology) and WSML (Web Service Modeling Language) specifications and has imposed no additional requirements to them. Therefore, the advanced software components developed during the project are of interest to the whole WSMO community. INFRAWEBS offers a SOA framework – INFRAWEBS Integrated Framework (IIF), based on the ESB integration paradigm, which can be easily used by different groups of users (application providers, designers of SWS, etc.). The IIF enables integration of components of different technologies. Furthermore, it can be considered as one of the first frameworks for semantic service engineering that covers the whole SWS life-cycle and allows for creation of complex, semantically-enabled applications.

Use cases are nowadays the favoured technique for defining the functional requirements of a software system. Their use implies that most of the desired functionality of the new system is well known. The aim of this work is a methodological proposal (and a tool to support it) to accurately define this functionality, starting from the way the end users currently do their work. This method and tool are independent of the development paradigm and could generate useful results for the most frequently used CASE tools with the addition of the appropriate translators.

Developing usable and desirable products requires an understanding of how users build close relationships with objects and how these relationships can be controlled by developers. This paper discusses the importance of the concept of affordances as an instrument useful for understanding the relationships between technical functions and user tasks. The approach introduces a Function-Task Design Matrix to link technical functions with user tasks and to capture relevant affordance-level requirements throughout the product architecture generation. Functional and Operational Affordance levels are introduced to help determine the product attributes necessary to optimize the ease with which users can undertake technical functions. In this paper, we present a general concept of state transition diagrams well-suited for various modeling purposes. Our notation is tailored for the description of asynchronous time-independent agents. We start by proposing a graphical and textual syntax, and define an abstract syntax for both notations. The semantics of state transition diagrams defined by translating the abstract syntax into timed port automata and to timed input/output relations on streams. To make the graphical notation practical, we partition the (possibly infinite) state space of the state transition diagrams with state predicates and define transitions with pre- and post-conditions. Smart and precision agriculture seeks to boost the efficiency of operations and crop yield by using modern technology. Modern tools such as sensors, imagery cameras, and deep learning enable farmers to identify and control weeds, pests, and diseases in real-time. A robotic platform can carry these modern types of equipment and achieve the mentioned objectives precisely. Automatic and accurate navigation of this autonomous robot in agricultural fields is essential for performing these precision tasks. An agricultural robotic platform was designed and developed for row crop fields. The robot navigation system comprises two main components: a vision-based row detection system for path tracking and a motion controller system. The vision-based guidance system processes acquired image data from a tilted camera in front of the robot to identify the crop row's position. The Hough transform method was used to determine the position of the crop rows. Using the resultant guidance line equations, the motion controller directs the robot to move automatically between rows without harming the crops. Differential speed steering allows both wheels on the robot to rotate at different speeds. The steering system improved the robot position error by controlling both powered wheel speeds. To move the robot among the crop rows, it generates the wheel speed difference command. The robotic platform effectively followed the rows of sugar beets at a velocity of 0.5 m/s, exhibiting an average lateral offset of 12 mm and a standard deviation of 22 mm.

MOTIIVE (Marine Overlays on Topography for annex II Valuation and Exploitation) is a project funded as a Specific Support Action (SSA) under the European Commission Framework Programme 6 (FP6) Aeronautics and Space Programme. The project started in September 2005 and finished in October 2007. The objective of MOTIIVE was to examine the methodology and cost benefit of using non-proprietary data standards. Specifically it considered the harmonisation requirements between the INSPIRE data component ‘elevation’ (terrestrial, bathymetric and coastal) and INSPIRE marine thematic data for ‘sea regions’, ‘oceanic spatial features’ and ‘coastal zone management areas’.
