Sportsbetting continues to grow in the Land of Lincoln, as sportsbetting handle in the state of Illinois hit $1.02 billion during the month of May.
The number marks the ninth straight month that handle was over $1 billion, and the total was up 21.9% from last year. The handle number was down 8.9% in April, as $1.1 billion was bet during that period.
$985.7 million was bet online, and $31 million bet at retail locations in casinos around the state.
Pro sports saw $1.01 billion wagered, with $3.7 million bet on collegiate sports. $1.4 million was bet on motor racing.
Revenues in the state hit $100.9 million, up 13.4% from last year. Online betting generated $98.1 million of that total, with $2.8 million coming from retail.
$54.3 million came from Cook County, the state's largest county population-wise. The top performer was FanDuel, who had $43 million in revenue on $340.1 million of handle. DraftKings had $30.9 million in revenue on $386.4 million in handle. BetRivers was a distant third with $7.6 million in revenue.
Taxes paid during the month were $15.1 million, the second-to-last month before a new progressive tax scheme comes into place on July 1st. The sliding scale will see revenues of over $200 million. paying a 40% tax rate.
